My cousin and I had a HORRIBLE experience here. First, I asked for some tap water and the waitress told me that they do not have tap water and I would need to order a $ 7 bottle of water. I told her no thank you, I have a water bottle anyway, and she told me that I couldn’t drink my own water in the restaurant either — I would either have to buy the $ 7 bottle or not drink. Then, I ordered the all-you-can-eat and my cousin tried to order one roll because she wasn’t that hungry, and they told her that she had to spend the $ 20 on the all you can eat just because I already ordered it and she was at my table. Then, because she wasn’t that hungry, she couldn’t finish the all-you-can-eat, and when it came time to pay they told her that they were charging us an extra fee for not finishing all of our food. They said that that policy was on the front screen of the menu and you click continue to agree, but the waitress that sat us down pressed that button for us and NEVER explained that there was a FEEFORNOTBEINGABLETOFINISHTHEALL-YOU-CAN-EATTHATYOUDIDN’T WANTTOORDERINTHEFIRSTPLACE. Needless to say, we left extremely unhappy and extremely thirsty. Just horrible — do not go here.

This is the WORST Japanese restaurant. From outside we saw the sign says«Shabu Shabu all you can eat», however all you can eat means you pay € 25.50/person to stay for 2 hours and to order max of 5 choices. This place isn’t the Shabu-Shabu like the usual/common Shabu-Shabu a.k.a hot pot in Asia. When we were there, we have experienced the WORST server. He barely explained us on how to order the menu. He handed me a PDA device with pictures of the menu in Dutch and he just left. I had no idea how to work this crap out since I don’t speak Dutch. I had to ask the other friendly server how to use the device. And by the way, all you can eat doesn’t mean free drinks or even water. We ended up ordering ala carte and our bill was only € 29.50. What a rip off if we chose to go with all you can eat for 2! Guys, be very careful! This type of restaurant and service can ruin your vacation big time, just saying! My husband left the restaurant with disappointment. And on our way back to the hotel, we stop to get Mc. Donalds which way better than Shabu”.

One of the best all-you-can eat Japanese food around the Heineken Experience! Every dish was freshly cooked and well prepared. I would recommend this restaraunt to anyone that is extremely hungry and looking for a good Japanese meal!

We heard about the all you can eat; but they are very serious about the eating part. They threatened multiple times that you will be charged if u don’t finish. There is a great selection. Some food(the fried ones) was fresh while others were just mediocre

Shabu Shabu deserves three stars — as three means«A-OK» — but there are a lot of haters here being snotty, so I’m giving it 4 — because yes, I am also a fan of this spot. Is there any shabu? No! There is no shabu shabu — which is hilarious and which my husband hated! But I just thought it was funny, eccentric, and clearly not Japanese ;D [you are in the netherlands people] (If you’ve read other reviews — you know shabu is a Japanese hot pot — and yes, it’s often all you can eat… this was just everything except that ;) We had a blast here, and we ate a *ton*! I loved the fried pork the most — so darn good! My husband liked the different kinds of gyoza, and thought the sushi was ‘ok’ — which is what we’d found already for sushi in Amsterdam. Just know what you’re getting into. You’re in the outer area of Amsterdam, at an all you can eat spot, that is misnamed. Do you really expect the freshest sushi in the world? Don’t be crazy! Get the fried pork, the calamari, the gyoza, the soups, and just *have fun* b/c that is the point of this place! We definitely did :) And left full and pleased. Not great fare(aside from the fried pork — omg!) but you know, decent: D

Hot garbage. Miso has raw carrots. Eel is anything but fresh. No matter how many times you ask your sushi roll will come with an inhuman amount of mayonnaise. This sushi is as fake as the plastic cherry trees in their lobby. Hot Garbage…

Friendly staff, but the food was below average. The sushi isn’t very good, and several of the grilled dishes didn’t live up to our expectations(based on the pictures and descriptions) either. I hoped for a miniature bowl of ramen when ordering just that, but the broth was tasteless and the toppings were insufficient to make it more than a boring bit of boiled dough. I’ve seen plenty of restaurants, a la carte or all you can eat, that do a better job.

This local spot isn’t too terrible for what it is– I get it, it’s all you can eat sushi. Many people complain and moan, oh the quality, rah rah rah! But let’s be honest, unless you’re actually in Japan and at Tsukiji(or at Jiro’s) the quality of a lot of sushi and sashimi is only going to be. wait for it… OK. And this is ok. Because again, you’re doing all you can eat sushi, you’re consuming quantity over quality and for Amsterdam, here at Shabu Shabu, it’s not too bad! Also I know, even the name is wrong but you’re in Europe, get a grip, they aren’t shooting for michelin stars here!!! Anyway, in the recent months(as I’ve been here a few times in the time I’ve lived in Amsterdam), they’ve updated their ordering service which allows you to order all the dishes you want with a Nexus 7 which they leave on your table. And quick as a flash, all the dishes you’ve selected are at your table. I can recommend their vegetable and meat dishes, they’re absolutely worth it! I don’t know how they cook their courgettes except that they’re amazing and full of flavour, the same can be said of their aubergines. And the beef pieces. yes, I know it’s a sushi place with the wrong kind of name but Japanese cuisine is made up of more than just sushi you guys! Really! So all in all, good flavours, good variety of choices but kinda crappy you have to pay extra for things like sashimi, soft shell crab, grilled mackerel and scallops but again, I think there are far faar faaar more terrible places to eat at in Amsterdam. #Fact. One point worth making, they don’t serve tap water here– we were told that it’s because they make no money on the food that they must charge for drinks, so. NOTAPWATERFORYOU! HA!

For those who think they know what sushi is. The tuna roll I ordered came with CANNED tuna in it. ??? This place is for the person that is a first timer and not feeling adventurous to try real sushi. I’ve had better sushi in the airport.

Run! Sorry to be harsh but this restaurant was about filling you up with mayo and low quality fish. Most was cooked fish. € 7.50 Euro for a bottle of water and they will not provide any tap water. We left hungry and willing to pay for the rolls we didn’t eat. Yes, we will pay not to eat the food.

Meh… just meh! It’s a very average all you can eat Sushi place with nothing memorable, unique or special to offer, but if you are ready to go to town on a pile of sushi and won’t notice any difference in flavor due to your blind hunger rage, then this will do!

Are you kidding me, this place does’t even serve Shabu Shabu(Japanese hot pot)? That is like calling a restaurant ‘The Steak House’ and only serve vegetarian dishes… Once we found out that this was an ‘all you can eat’ sushi place, we were surprised by the convoluted ordering process. You can only have 5 items per person per round, but a 3-piece mini roll counts as 3 items. Then, you can only order a new round once all dishes have been cleared. If you don’t like a particular dish, you still better eat up, kid, or else no dessert. As far as I understood, you can also pay for unfinished dishes(the instructions were in Dutch). We found the dishes themselves to be pretty bland and the sushi mediocre. On a more positive note, the setting is nice and the staff very friendly. The place was packed and seemed popular amongst locals, so the food might be a matter of taste. I haven’t had any other Sushi in Amsterdam, but as a foreigner this place just didn’t live up to my expectations.

Why I love sushi and getting dolled up? I was in the mood for eating something healthy and using chopsticks, so we decided to dine out at this trendy Sushi spot. I won’t call it a Japanese spot because I have had the«Real Japanese Sushi»(soo-shee) in Tokyo and I know the real thing. Sushi is sometimes called the Japanese sandwich, contrary to western culture. However, I love different concepts of Sushi. So, it works for me. This place has every type of sushi role that you can imagine. All most down to «All You Can Eat». I would strongly suggest coming here hungry because you will soon be full. Every time I come here the place is a full house. So we’re always lucky to get a table despite us not making reservations. The price is beyond reasonable and the staff is very friendly. This is the perfect place for you to chew, swallow, and digest. Keep in mind to hold your chop sticks towards their end and not in the middle. Enjoy!

«Sushi, are you serious? But I am really hungry!!!». «Trust me!» was the only reply I got. So, my Amsterdam friends and I went to the place named Shabu Shabu. We just had to wait very shortly to get a table in this packed Japanese Sushi and Grill restaurant. O.k., we sat down and while we had some conversation I was thinking about a strategy how to find some«real food» after the dinner. Dont get me wrong: I love Sushi! But if I am really hungry, it sometimes does not satisfy me. We got the menus and it was love at the first sight. All my fears were gone and all my «aftersushi» thoughts were blown away: ALLYOUCANEAT. You pay app. 20 € for the eating as much as you can battle. Per round you are allowed to order 5 different types of Sushi and /or grilled japanese dishes(e.g. chicken teriyaki, grilled Fish, aso.). If you are able to eat all of it, you can order the next round. In my eyes a good idea to avoid this«stockpile behaviour» people sometimes show at those places. The Sushi was tasty and also all the other dishes have been very nice. But in general the menu was somewhat mainstream. So if you are a Sushi beginner, that venue is the right place for you. The service was friendly and prompt. She also replaced our plates immediately as we mentioned the they were not clean. And at the end, I was more than satisfied: I was stuffed like a turkey on Thanksgiving. Overall the Shabu Shabu is a nice place to go.
