When a place describes itself as a steak house, well, one expects to get a good steak. The steak turned out te be not very well, contrary to the starter, the vegetables and the dessert. My steak(bavette) was flattened and overcooked, and I gather it didn’t weigh the 200 grams as mentioned on the menu. I had to send back the(pepper-cream) sauce because the taste was really awful and didn’t match with the taste of the overcooked meat. The place looks fine, the staff is a slightly silly and slow, and the cook should take a course in meat-grilling. A bavette has to be grilled crispy on the outside, tender and red on the inside, with a light texture. The restaurant made it up with a round of drinks for our table. Very nice, but one can only hope that they pick up the advice and start to improve, otherwise this restaurant won’t last another 2 years. About my fellows: The burger was nice, but again not worth the money. The lobster was fine, as was the steak tartare. Granny’s stuff was drowned in booze. So… some dishes are well prepared, others are absolutely not worth your euros. About the service: bit sloppy. Twice we had to wait for one of the dishes, because the orders hadn’t gone correctly to the kitchen. When the time came to pay: I had to correct the bill(I was underbilled). And afterwards we had to pick up our own coats, which were stacked on a heap. Not good. Good place to drink a glass of wine and eat a piece of cake, though. But only if you’re willing to pay for the ambiance.

I went back to the pompstation yesterday for a friend’s birthday. Our party of 11 was seated immediately and our drinks were great. The meat was cooked nicely and the cut was great, but we waited more than an hour to be served and the restaurant was empty! it was tough to catch the attention of the wait staff who were assisting some people on the terrace(which is gorgeous!) They stuck a candle in the cake we brought which I really appreciated, but I so would have loved just a bit more attentive service.

This place could be a real gem if they tried a bit harder. As, others have said, the venue is just gorgeous. It has a great ambiance, so theres some real potential there. I actually quite like eclectically dressed waitstaff, and the industrial setting. It gives the impression of a casual, fun atmosphere. Unfortunately the staff is a bit too casual because they seem to not have much of a clue about running a proper restaurant. I’ll explain. We had a reservation for 4 people, and arrived on time. We were sat at a at table with eight seats, and even though there is a visible coat closet at the end of the room, no one offered to hang our coats. After about 10 minutes or so, we had already received our drinks and water, and we looking over our menus, and the waiter asked us if we would move to another smaller table, so they could seat a group of seven at ours. So we had to pick up and move, coats, drinks and all. Not very professional. I don’t know why they didn’t just sit us at the smaller table to begin with. The restaurant is quite obviously a steak house. Most of the menu is made up of beef and there is even a diagram of a cow on the menu explaining where the different cuts come from. So one would assume they know how to cook meat. Not quite. On the menu it says that basically all of the steak dishes and hamburgers are cooked medium rare. So they don’t ask you how you would like it cooked. My friend asked if she could have her steak medium instead of medium rare. They said no problem. I’ll get back to this later. The starters were quite good, and we were happy. The drinks were actually a bit strong, but I liked this. Then it went very downhill. We waited about and hour for our main courses after we were done with our starters. We were all pretty much starving when the mains came. First they confused us by coming out and announcing they had 2 rib-eyes, when both the guys at the table had ordered sirloin. Apparently he just had no clue which cut of meat it was. Kind of odd at a steak house. My three friends received their meal and then mine did not come until about 5 – 10 minutes later. When it finally came my burger was well done despite the menu saying they were all medium rare. My friend who ordered her steak medium got it medium rare. We know this because it looked exactly the same color as the other two steaks that were medium rare. We didn’t send them beck because it took so long to get them in the first place we were afraid we would never eat if we did. The mains ended up being average in my opinion. The burger was nothing special, fries nothing special, I tried a bite of the sirloin, not the worst and not the best i’ve ever had. My poor girlfriend couldn’t finish hers because it was too rare for her taste. Overall not the worst experience in the world, but not worth the price, and the big downside was the very inexperienced staff.

This was the best meat I’ve had in the Netherlands so far. At the same time, it was the slowest service I’ve had in the Netherlands(even considering the usual Dutch standard of slow service). So it’s really 5 stars food, 1 star service. So you get 3 stars overall, while paying for 4 stars. If you’re really patient, the food is actually very good.

Went back here for a work dinner because it’s close to my office. Figured maybe the place had gotten better since I’d been there 2 years earlier. Well, nope. First off, if you’re a waiter your hair should not be precariously hanging over my food, just below your attitude. It should be pulled back AND clean AND combed. And the attitude should be non-existent. Yes, I’m very demanding. I ordered the half lobster, which is actually crayfish. It wasn’t cooked thoroughly and it was maybe enough as an appetizer. To top it off the joint is pricey.

Yes the venue and ambience is beautiful but that’s about all you get here. I get that maybe with such an industrial building they want an eclectic staff but it felt much more like kids that had no idea what they were doing. Like this was a class project. The floor manager with long gothic dreadlocks was wearing a net shirt and glitter jacket with Michael Jackson hat and wildly dance around the room sucking his fingers and rubbing them over his nipples. He would jump into just about any table as if it were his dinner party, shuffling glasses and dishes around to make room for himself. The rest of the staff somewhat out of it and looking something like a modern day Adams Family crew, wandered about doing not much of anything. When a candle was brought to our table we were asked if WE had a lighter to light the candle ourselves. There were dropped forks around the floor and paper napkins that had been dropped and they stayed there the entire night. Our table was never cleaned so as the meal went along our table became more and more filthy. We ended up stacking dishes on top of each other ourselves just to have room on the table. Our first drink ordered was rudely taken away by the floor manager who came back with his choice alternative. A dry champagne.(I hate champagne) then we were told there was a special that we must try… Oysters, you are told by the floor manager, while he makes sucking noises and smacks at his lips, that you should drink the champagne, eat the oyster, then suck on a shot of bourbon. NOW… I dont know who made the concoction up other than maybe some kids at a drinking party that want as quickly as possible to slug that oyster back without a hint of taste but, nonetheless we gave it a try. It was somewhat like swallowing an oyster by means of a nail polish remover shot. Needless to say, we enjoyed the rest of the oysters on their own. Now, I dont know what the regular menu holds in store for you as we ordered from the valentines special menu. The candied walnut and pear salad was bland and flavorless aside from the candied walnuts with were most likely store bought already candied. The second was a shocker. A hazelnut and celeriac soup with chanterelle mushrooms and truffle oil. FORTHERECORD — this soup was beyond 5 star delicious. So looking forward we had our hopes up for the rest of the meal. Main course arrived — Sea Bass with pumpkin purée was… Half soggy and wet and the other half crispy but again. Totally flavorless. Underneath, a handful of peas! Yes the peas you serve to children that come from those frozen bags you use to cool and injured knee, still a bit soggy from the thawing. The best thing on the plate was the pumpkin purée but with only three small dots of this stuff on my plate was not enough to save the day. By the time dessert was ordered we had twice to call staff over to please take our old plates away. At this point most the staff was either at the bar drinking or out in the smoking area having cigarettes. The floor manager of course sitting at yet another table with patrons slamming back shots. When someone arrived to our table we now had our napkins laid out to keep from putting our sleeves into and sticky goo food droppings and the staff member came over and set our dessert plates on top of the laid out dirty napkins. As if they weren’t there at all. When I finally spoke up and suggested we go out for a cigarette and they can have the time they need to remove old plates and cutlery and wipe the table down properly for us to enjoy dessert on a clean table, this staff personnel told me he could just bring our desserts to the smoking room and we could eat out there. ??? WHAT? I told him that’s ok but we would rather eat at our cleaned table. When we returned the table was wiped but only just in front of us, the rest of the table was still greasy and with spilt salt from the oyster shells. If they are going to continue in this manner they should make it a taco and burger joint and lower the pricing OR fire the staff and get professionals and serve top notch cuisine to their clientele. The menu reads well but what comes out??? Not great Needless to say– it’s too pricey for alternative kids and far below standards for your foodie /spenders Won’t be back for more unless new management or ownership change occurs.

Gorgeous location with beautiful vintage chairs. Staff and guests are a happy mix of «anything and everything». The meat is heavenly, real tasteful and cooked to perfection. The more refined items on the menu are OK(and the plates are nicely decorated) but not spectacular. Bottom line: Good food, great location. I’ll probably go back for their steaks :)

Amazing staff, even better food, probably one of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. The ratatouille and Chateaubriand are to die for. Can’t wait for my next visit
