Great food, great service and very much worth every dollar. The seafood was fresh and the sauces served was delicious. The staff were very helpful and friendly as well. Definitely an unforgettable first night we have at Amsterdam thanks to this restaurant!

I bet my garden is bigger than yours. I live at the Haarlemmerweg and the Westerpark is just a few steps away. L.O.V.E. the location. The ultimate proof of my love: our current house is for sale — Haarlemmerweg 187III + IV, wanna buy? — and we bought a bigger apartment at the same street. Cosy, cool and friendly Mossel & Gin is one of the reasons I want to stay put. This ‘food bar’ in the Westerpark opened one year ago and is still going strong, serving lobster croquettes, pulpo and, obviously, mussels with matching G&T’s. On dull autumn days the Thai mussels will come to your rescue and bring your ‘backpack days’ to life. Juicy Dutch mussels splashing in a tropical juice of coconut milk, lemongrass, lime leaves and ginger. Cilantro and bean sprouts on top, man, these mussels rock. The matching mix of Tanqueray Ten Gin, Fever-Tree Tonic Water, red pepper and a lime leaf will definitely transform you into Murray Head and make you sing his famous eighties song: ‘One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble.’

Let me start by saying that I love this place… It’s set perfectly in westerpark in a nook with a cozy terrace and a lovely indoor seating area… The service is friendly and prompt. The drink selection is brilliant — I tried a few gin cocktails and liked em all — perfect on a summer evening… I tried the oysters and they were good and fresh but the mussels of course stole the show. We tried the chilli mussels, Thai mussels and Gruyère mussels and I liked the Gruyère one best — it’s creamy yet extremely flavorful and light… The place turns quite romantic in the evening with dim lighting and the beautiful laid back cozy ambience. Definitely going back here this summer for refreshing cocktails and great mussels!

Last night the staff here showed me how much they value customers… a shocking surprise for Amsterdam. I took my friend, a former chef from Malta, to this place because I had raved about it often. I talked him out of playing it safe with the traditional mussels, and he went with the chorizo tomato mussels. The chorizo, olive, tomato combination in the mussles just wasn’t working for either of us. We tried, but the olives seemed like they went from can to pan, the chorizo was huge, more like salami cut into two-bite pieces. It was a heavy style. He was disappointed, I was embarrassed. And what now? Complain? Say nothing and never come back? Another hyped up and let down new wave place in Amsterdam? It’s not easy to build up courage enough to criticize a kitchen, especially in a different country. So when the server asked how everything was, we had this awkward silence, and the server said«Umm… okay.» And then we spilled the beans. He brought us a fresh, piping hot plate of their Thai style mussels a minute later. Amazing. Spiced glamorously with fresh and simple ginger, lemongrass, shoots and coriander. We could taste how their innovative ingredients compliment the mussels. What a lifesaving move from the kitchen and server. And then the bill was clean from any mussels charge. To most, this would seem like a usual reaction from a kitchen with an unhappy customer. But in a tourist hub like Amsterdam, rarely does feeling appreciated come with the experience. Some say that valued service in Amsterdam is nonexistent. Well, times seem to be changing. Phew. And in return the place won the respect of two customers who almost weren’t coming back, and have turned them into repeating customers who will continue to recommend Mossel & Gin.

Ginormous gin & tonics, awesome mussels. Sunny terrace. We went here for my birthday and were not disappointed. Do keep in mind this is not the place to go if you’re not a seafood fan — or if someone in your group is not. The whole menu is all an out fish. The mussels with blue cheese were my very favorite…

This has become our favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. A wonderful bike ride into the Westerpark gets us nice gin cocktails with delicious octopus and mussels. Whenever a friend comes into town to visit this is usually our first night out!

Have you tried the new place Mossel & Gin? That is the question I’d been asked at least a half dozen times. Finally I went with a group of 6 and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We sat outside on their lovely terrace and enjoyed our meal with drinks. We started with Gin and I ordered the one with basil in it. Not overly powerful with the fresh basil in it. It was perfect. Refreshing and the right amount of basil flavor. We also ordered the shrimp bitterball. One of the best I’ve ever had. It had a perfectly delicate crisp shell and moist gooey yumminess inside and they weren’t shy with the amount of shrimp in them. My friend and I shared the Thai Mussels and the Mackerel. Mussels were good but the Thai flavor/sauce wasn’t truly authentic but definitely more than good enough. The mackerel was incredible! Thick, moist and perfectly salty. I enjoyed every bite! Last but not least, their fries were quite tasty. Crispy and moist inside. On top of all the food and drinks I was so happy we had good customer service. Yeah I tried to holler our server a handful of times with no success but hey, they were busy. We didn’t have to wait too long compared to some places in this city. Added plus, our server was such a friendly guy. Word of warning, if you don’t like seafood, your stuck with only fries. If you don’t like gin, they have beer and wine. It’s a great hidden location, tourist free(except for my friends from the states, haha). Put this place on your radar and go!

I thought this place would be very highbrow, but obviously I can’t pass up a concept like seafood and G&Ts so I decided to check it out anyway. It was actually the opposite of what I expected — extremely laid back, with a wonderful relaxed terrace and very friendly staff. Although the clientele is exactly as impeccably groomed as one would expect. We ordered 1x mussels and with two G&Ts it made the perfect light summer meal. Four stars only because it took us ages to get any servers to pay attention to us(but they were wonderful once they did!!)

I really want to like this place. But the lack of service overwhelmed the whole experience. We sat outside enjoying the evening sun. The atmosphere was lovely and it kicked it all off to a great start even if it took a while to get a menu(we sipped on our water for ages, waiting). The menu has a nice mix of gins, a few decent beers and a welcoming choice of seafood. We ordered mussels, homemade fries and salad with a glass of Sauvignon blanc. Service was minimal to obsolete. Although every staff member was friendly and polite, no one paid us much attention. We ordered more water but it never came. Our food arrived in shallow fry pans and the mussels went cold quickly. We ordered a second glass of the same wine, only to be given 2 glasses of something different. After that no one ever came to our table again to clear our plates or ask us if we would like dessert or a drink or even the bill! Eventually we got a little chilly and impatient outside so we walked inside. We waved down a waiter for a menu. We received some but then no one came by again until yet another waiter stopped by but to merely ask if he could borrow our menu to tally up someone’s bill! He came back and said thanks, returning the menu. We had to ask if we could order as well… He said yes but his tone seemed oddly unsure. Dessert was a chocolate cake. We also ordered cream to go with it. When we received it, they had forgotten the cream. So we requested it again. He apologised and went to get it. On returning he informed us the kitchen staff had forgotten to whip some up today. Can you hear me sighing out of frustration? Nice concept but what good is a nice concept if you can’t deliver on service? Very disappointing.

My wife and I wandered in one afternoon between lunch and dinner. We thought the menu was pretty clever as the menu is divided into lunch, dinner, and in-between lunch and dinner options. Unfortunately, our service was pretty bad. We waited over an hour between the time we placed our order and for the food to arrive. No server checked in with us during that time. We suspect part of the reason is that the restaurant didn’t have a lot of staff that spoke English, so we were relying on one of the bartenders to come outside.

Mossel and Gin on Friday night. guess what I was drinking and eating??? Gin Hendricks with cucumber. that was to start with. My evening started sitting in the sun at the 2 persons table with a glass of gin mentioned above and a plate of starters — bitterballen and croquettes with lobster and shrimps. how delicious were those. a must to order:) Mossel and Gin has a very limited menu and if you are a person who is a vegetarian or a meat eater or you are a very picky fish eater than it is not a place for you. the only thing you can try to fill your stomach are fries. However if you like some seafood and gin it is a definite yes! After the starter I ordered mussels with thai sauce — kind of green curry/coconut sauce. Mussels were served with fries, small salad and bread on the side. The food was delicious. I wished however that there was a bit more choice on the menu, especially for starters or small side dishes. Small dishes would work really great with great amounts of gin consumed… and although people working in service were extremely nice and friendly, but still it didn’t speed up the service and avoided small mistakes in order made on the way. However if the service was good and orders would be coming quickly it would mean that I would drink more gin… This was I did not and I stopped after 3 glass…

New seafood restaurant? Here I come! :) Very nice concept that they found with this Mossel & Gin restaurant! The name gives(almost) it all: you can have mussels, and gin and tonics. Actually they also serve lobster and small appetizers(most if not all of them include some seafood, for example shrimp bitterballen!!), and probably other drinks as well, although I only tried the gin and tonics… Gin and tonic is actually not my favorite drink, but this might change now: the have 7 different gin and tonics with different and original flavors such as nectarine, apple, basilic, etc! I tried several and I think nectarine is going to be my favorite… specially because you get to eat the actual nectarine slices at the end of your drink once they have been well infused with gin … mmm, so good! ;) The mussels were nice as well. They also have different recipes: classic, chili, thai and roquefort. We ordered all of them except the classic and I must say all of them were good, just choose the one that fits your personal taste the most! Sitting on their big and nice terrace is really a nice way to spend a warm evening!
