My darling husband ventured out on a Saturday morning to get me some of their french bread, pastries and croissants, and everything was delicious and amazing. He drove, since they’re on the other side of town from us, and he had to brave scores of rude entitled rich people trying to find parking for their BMWs and Mercedeses, honking at each other, and being impatient in line behind him outside the store. This bakery is in a very hoity-toity part of town, so watch out! Don’t get caught between rich people and their pastries. There was a long line out the door, but with 8 super fast people helping inside, the line moves along at a good pace. Once you’re done, nevermind the people honking at you because you’re not leaving your parking space quickly enough. You have pastries now. Your life is complete. As for the food, I’ll start with the French bread, aka the baguette, aka stokbrood. It was the best I’ve tasted in Amsterdam. It’s not quite super burnt and ashy delicious like bread in Paris, but it comes close. The croissants are divine. My husband compared them to the cheap croissants you can get at Jumbo and declared the Jumbo croissants to be excrement in comparison. The macaroons! Omg the macaroons! They only come in chocolate and they’re like 4 times the size of a regular macaroon, but they have some kind of delicious fudgey filling I’ve never seen in a macaroon before that will help bring you closer to God. The chocolate croissants are flaky and delicate and the chocolate is soft even when they’re at room temperature and not heated up, so I was amazed. At last I found a chocolate croissant in Amsterdam that is flavorful and contains good chocolate! Finally I tried the lemon and strawberry tartlets together like a previous reviewer suggested, and I agree that alternating bites combines the strengths of both to make a whole bigger than the sum of their parts. Which are now in my belly, since I couldn’t stop eating them even though I was well past the point of feeling satisfied. So if you’re in the neighborhood, drop by. If you’re not in the neighborhood, send your beloved to bring back some wonderful pastries as a heroic act of bravery to prove their love for you. You will not be disappointed.

I once lived in Lyon for one year and gained ten kilos. Eclairs au chocolat, croissants aux amandes, tartelettes. It was all just too seductive to handle. In Amsterdam I feel the same urge to score at Le Fournil de Sébastien. Not surprisingly, considering the French roots of this bread and pastry heaven. Sébastien, the owner, was born and raised in the Vendée region. He fell in love with Susan, a Dutch blonde. They got married and decided to start a real French bakery in Amsterdam(2007). It was an instant hit and it still is; especially on Saturday mornings the line of hungry worshippers seems to end in Paris. The secret of their success? Wonderful organic and artisan products, happy vibes and modest prices. In summer it’s a sin NOT to buy the tartelettes aux fraises and au citron. The strawberry tart is juicy and sugar sweet, the lime tart creamy and ultra fresh. Opposites attract. Combine them for the ultimate oh là là effect.

Best croissant I’ve ever had. Following a friend’s pro tip, I woke up early one morning and biked 50 minutes just to get here. It was worth every minute. Much to my dismay, though, they made sure to enforce their weird no photo policy. Relax guys, your competitors all know what your store looks like.

I like this French bakery, especially the fact that they are open 7 to 7, Monday to Saturday. And they know how to efficiently move the line, so don’t be scared off by a few people waiting. What I don’t like is that if I go in hungry and want a little treat to nibble on the way home I often can’t find something that strikes my fancy. There seems to be no middle ground between breads and super fancy pastries. Maybe that is the universe telling me I don’t need a treat?

I’d been hearing about this place since I got to AMS so I was ecstatic to find them. As close to French bread as you can get in Amsterdam, and sometimes it’s real French bread, which is why I’m not giving 5 stars: the quality is always good but not exactly consistent. One great characteristic is that it’s not overpriced! :D Mais voila, j’ai mes baguettes :)

Most probably my favorite bakery in town. Whenever I am nearby, I must go in. The madeleines are extremely delicious. They make them fresh throughout the whole day, and are cheap if you take some more. I usually get two separate bags, because I know one is going to be gone by the time I get home. No restraint, I know. Trés trés French ;)

The best bakery in all Amsterdam! As expatriate, bread my good dear France I missed a lot. I must say that I am more than happy to have finally found here. The baguette tradition 1,20 e is just perfect and I’m not talking pastries! I can only recommend this bakery!

Last Friday I went to Le Fournil de Sébastien for the first time and it was love at first bite. It was recommended to me by a French expat who said the baguettes were just as good as the ones she ate in France. So through the rain I went, to get my weekend bread and pastries. The place was crowded with people getting their weekend stuff and lunch(they also sell sandwiches) but the staff was quick and I did not have to wait long at all. The way everything is stalled out here makes it so temping to buy way too much food. I bought a classic baguette, a croissant, big chocolate macaroons and canelés. Everything was super delicious and I think the prices are good as well. I ate the croissant for lunch, had the macaroon and canelés with coffee and the baquette with soup and cheese for dinner. I am so glad I went here! It is my absolute new favorite!

This is a French bakery in the Zuid area which has amazingly delicious croissants and breads just like you find them in France… if you are a fan of French bakeries, especially buttery, crispy croissants full of flavour, do yourself a favour and visit Le Fournil — its a small space and can be somewhat uncomfortable to get in and order if it’s crowded, which it generally is… but that’s pretty standard for Amsterdam where space is limited… the prices are good and the food delicious… they have crunchy baguettes and mini crème brulees, among other treats…
