Ich kann mir keine schönere Art vorstellen, eine Stadt kennen zu lernen: nette Leute, ein charmanter Guide und vor allem sehr leckeres Essen! Man sollte unbedingt hungrig sein, weil es viel auf der Tour gibt. Wunderbar!

I cannot recommend this tour enough!!! Our guide Rachel (also on the thirsty bird tour!) was an amazing resource of information and energy!
It literally felt like meeting up with a group of local friends and letting them take you around to their personal favorite places as a local! Step by step we learned and experienced more of the Dutch food scene. Very different from the more common Belgian food scene!
Every location was within steps of each other and we were pretty full halfway through so make sure you come hungry and armed with a water bottle (can also buy on the way) and comfy walking shoes!
And the best part is at the end of the amazing tour, they break out a map and we can ask them any question from restaurants to sites and they are the perfect open book to the city as a local!
Loved this tour and so glad I made it out first full day in Amsterdam!
If you are on the fence about it, book it if…
1. You love food and new experiences
2. You have an open mind
3. You don’t mind strolling through fabulous places for a few hours
4. You don’t know REAL Dutch food!

So far this has been my favourite experience in Amsterdam.
I went on the Market birds tour with Esther, who showed us that Amsterdam is really just a big village.
We saw everything from hidden local gems (like a mini Indonesian restaurant in the back of an antiques shop) to a Dutch fast food chain still run by the families that started it three generations ago. Alongside all the delicious food (even the herring was good) Esther spun stories about the history of the area, the people and of course the food.
Warning: by the time the tour finishes you’ll want to live here.

My sister and I went with Hungry Birds to experience some of the food in De Pijp on 28^th of December. It was good food and good stories and our guide, Ilse, was funny and polite and made us feel like home, while exploring the interesting food De Pijp has to offer. We were a little sceptical because of the price but it was really worth every single cent! If you, like us, really love to try new food experiences, this is a must on your to-​do-​list!

What an amazing way to see Amsterdam with a «local cousin»! We came hungry and ended stuffed from great local spots! Our «local cousin» Esther Anne was so chill and kept everyone engaged! I will definitely meet up with Hungry Birds again next time!

Food tours are great because they really give you an inside of the people and the culture. My husband and I usually try to take a food tour in whatever country we are visiting and the Hungry Birds tour did not disappoint. The weather wasn’t the best but that didn’t affect the tour at all we still were able to enjoy every stop, just come prepared with an umbrella and rain coat. I enjoyed the tour because we got to try some Amsterdam specialties that i probably wouldn’t have tried without their guidance. Every stop is unique and worth a visit. i even bought some food along the way so bring cash. The stroopwaffels were a great treat, the frites were great, the chocolate cookie was too die for and the herring was something I’m glad I got to try at least once. I would highly recommend this tour if you want to do something different in Amsterdam. Our tour guide was also very helpful and informative, she was even nice enough to recommend a restaurant in Paris for our next Europe stop and her recommendation of Babalou didn’t disappoint. Thanks for a great tour maybe on our next trip to Amsterdam we can do the bike tour.

I don’t think you will ever understand how amazing these girls are until you go on this food tour. I looked at all the review on all the websites and wondered how the heck they were getting such amazing ratings. It’s because they deserve 10 out of 5 stars.
For anyone who says it’s not about traditional Dutch food, they’ve got it wrong. Traditional Dutch food is similar to Canada; it’s a melting pot of cultures and people that have transformed a country into the culinary landscape it is today. Traditional herring will be on the tour (very Dutch), stroopwafels (Bless you for inventing these) and you will encounter their homemade mayo I am sure. The food tradition itself lies in the multicultural roots, not in the having of food that’s stamped «Dutch».
For this food writer it was was heaven on earth, learning about how the different cultures have formed the culinary scene. My two kids 9 and 11 LOVED it. There was enough food for them to eat and more. They even tried the herring.
I can’t rave enough about this tour. It’s a MUST if you’re in Amsterdam!

This was an amazing tour that introduced me to more of the Dutch culture and food. Our guide, Esther, was very knowledgeable and pleasant. She met the group at an agreed upon location and brought us all some bottled water, how thoughtful!
The tour lasted about 4 hrs and we covered a little over 2 kilometers at an easy pace. Altogether we made about 10 stops to outstanding eateries that I would have never discovered on my own. The highlight was the cheese stop and it was so worth it, that several people wanted more. It’s definitely good value for the money and a must do for anyone visiting Amsterdam.

What an amazing way to see Amsterdam. This was a 4 hour tour that was much more eating than walking. But WOW!!! is all I can say.
We met at a McDonalds. While this sounds scary, we didn’t eat there. From here we tried a place that I would probably have walked by. It sells fried croquet. But it is not what you think. The food is fresh and from all local sources. It was delightful. Next it was off to a stop around the corner for some yogurt. Then down the block for a sandwich with a Suriname twist. The flavors were out of this world. Then across the street for some satay. Then we got a short walk through the Albert Street Market.
One stop was better the next. The most surprising had to be the herring. While in the States, the herring we get here is very fishy, the herring in Amsterdam, had no fishy smell or taste. It was actually creamy.
The rest of the stops were even better. It is hard to describe all of what we had. I would recommend this to every and any one I can. At each stop, if we wanted anything more our guide would get us anything more that we wanted.

This was a highlight of my recent trip to Amsterdam! I arranged this for my husband and a friend whom we were visiting and we all loved it. Even our friend who lives in Amsterdam agreed this tour is a must for anyone visiting. My tip would be to do this on the first day of your trip if possible because so many great spots were pointed out that I wish we had time to explore them more! We did this on our last day so I guess we’ll just need to come back to explore them more :)
We tasted about 13 – 14 things in 4 hours and everything was excellent! We were completely stuffed by the end! Our guide, Ester was fun, passionate about food (and Amsterdam) and very informative. No need to be too culinarily daring to do this– the only thing that I wasn’t too excited about was the pickled herring – still a must try – everything else was interesting but tame.
Really fun day walking and exploring the city through my stomach!

My husband and I had a great time on this food tour. We have done several in many different countries and felt that this one was excellent! Our guide showed us local Dutch foods like pickled herring, stroopwaffel, and? pancake dumplings — all of which were delicious! She also included interesting cultural facts about the places we visited — things we would not have known if we were exploring on our own. Highly recommend — come hungry, its a lot of food!

We had the very lovely Zosia as our guide. She was the best, sharing great bits of information throughout the tour, and so welcoming and fun. We loved the small group, we all got to know each other a little bit. So it didn’t feel like a typical tour group, more like a bunch of friends hanging out. It was the perfect amount of walking, not too much, yet covering many different areas I hadn’t known to see on my own. And I loved every minute! I LOVED the food, I think it was like 10 different places! unfortunately I have a small stomach so I got full fast so remember to pace yourself! Thanks Zosia, we will look Hungry Birds up again when we return to Amsterdam! This was a major highlight of our trip.

First of all, Zosia was such a pleasure to spend the day with. She has such a great personality and a love for Amsterdam and the diverse food it brings. She took us to so many delicious places and we got to taste so many different types of food, both sweet and savory. I think a couple of our favorites were the Indonesian soup made by this super sweet lady that owns an antiques shop and the chocolate cookie. Zosia was so knowledgeable and we really enjoyed the walking tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Amsterdam. We wouldn’t hesitate to go again when we return! Thank you!

We did the walking tour. Our guide, Esther-​Hanna, was very enthusiastic and a pleasure to be around. Some of the foods were delicious, some less so (I’m talking to you, Mr. Herring) but even the not-​so-​good ones were quintessentially Dutch, and with 10+ stops you can afford to not like a few of them. I found it a great start to our trip, and also a great way to try a lot of different foods without having to devote an entire mealtime to each.
I’m definitely recommending Hungry Birds to my friends.

This was definitely the highlight of our trip to Amsterdam. It’s like a fun walking tour, combined with a ton of great food. Esther-​Hanna, our tour guide, was engaging and knew a lot about the area, and she took us to places that were very locals-​oriented, and definitely not big chains. Amsterdam is a great food city, and it would be impossible to see everything in a single trip, so this was a great way to get a slice of a lot of different cuisines in Amsterdam.
I will be recommending this to anyone I know who makes a trip out to Amsterdam.

Great street food tour! We’re not talking gourmet, just really good local food with a splash of history. Took the tour with Ester-​Hanna. The weather was a little crummy but I think it lasted over 6 hrs. Great deal for all the food you eat. There are plenty of stops and time to sit so all can attend as long as you’re hungry birds!
Would highly recommend.

This was one of our best parts of the trip to Amsterdam! I was concerned at first because the hours of the tour consists of 1130 AM to 330 PM, which cuts right in the middle of the day. We almost canceled so that we could take a tour of the city since we were only in town for one full day. Fortunately we decided to go through with the tour!
First off please do not eat breakfast… you eat SOOOO much during the tour that if you want to try everything, you definitely want to come hungry! You eat within 10 minutes of the beginning of the tour after introductions. We were lucky enough to get Zosia as our tour guide as she is incredibly nice and resourceful. The tour encompassed a walk around a large part of Amsterdam which in itself is worth it for the tour. You walk by several markets and several popular spots in the city and you get an explanation of the background of many of the restaurants there!
There is a nice mix of Dutch street food (old school eating style — no true «Dutch food» like in a restaurant setting), with Indonesian mix and family style eating as a group in a little shop and eating the best food in the markets! Its truly way better than expected! You will not regret! We eat all around the world and this is street food at its best and in such a comfy environment and such a great guide! 10 stars out of 5 stars!
This is definitely one that should not be missed! Of note we came to Amsterdam straight from Paris and this was still 4 hours of some of the best eating that we had on our entire trip, besides meeting new friends for life! Do not think, just book it, I promise you will love it!

The Hungry Birds tour is
1) not about traditional Dutch food, but about the best street food in Amsterdam, from all over the world
2) for tourists and foodies living in Amsterdam
First of all, Zosia our friendly tour guide wisely provided us each with a bottle of water. Then we did a small introduction round to break the ice.
Since we were a group of expats already living in Amsterdam, we skipped Febo and friets. Instead, we got to try amongst others: super tasty indonesian food bits, the most amazing savoury pies, de lekkerste vers bereide stroopwafel van de stad (of heel Nederland — according to Zosia), mouth-​watering japanese pancake and dé über-​chocolate-​cookie.
The food stops were spiced up with amusing stories around the respective cuisine or the shop/​stall owner (s).
If you’re into food and into Amsterdam but not a local, then this tour is a must!

As they say on their website, «Oh my foodness! Where do we even start?».
This was easily the best part of our Amsterdam trip (and maybe the best part of our wider Europe trip).
Esther-​Hanna graciously accepted our very last-​minute request for a private breakfast walking tour and we had a blast eating, talking and learning.
We stopped at several awesome locations serving a variety of local Dutch breakfast items, including:
— A wonderful bakery for some bread, cheese, cookies and hot cocoa.
— A trendy coffee spot.
— A bustling outdoor market.
— A cute little coffee shop for local macaroons.
— A cozy tea and yogurt shop.
Every stop was not only delicious but everywhere we went the staff was so welcoming and friendly, we felt right at home.
In between stops, Esther-​Hanna taught us more about Dutch history and culture than I would have ever had the discipline to learn on my own. She is incredibly knowledgeable about her culture and speaks absolutely perfect English.
I can’t wait to come back to Amsterdam and try one of the other tours Hungry Birds offers, including the bicycle tour!

What a great way to not only taste Amsterdam, but see it as well. We spent an afternoon with Zosia learning and eating our way around the cultural melting pot that is Amsterdam. Her passion for food is clear and is very knowledgable on her towns food scene. Come hungry, leave satisfied. Highly recommend!
