When asking around about where to find clothes that fit my style I was told to go to H&M. I don’t know how many times I’ve walked past this store and never thought twice about it. I think their advertising scares me off… never looks like my style. But when going in under the insistence of a friend, I found clothes for people with all kinds of styles! There are two floors of woman’s clothes, a floor for dressing rooms(apparently there is always a long line), a floor for men, and one for housewares. I think they have a nice selection of clothing for the size of the store, but the clothes don’t leave a lot of room for the hoards of people who are in there. But they do what they can. I saw staff putting clothes back where they belong to keep the store looking nice, but they inevitably get moved again. So when you find the perfect jacket all along and not in your size, it’s hard to figure out where it came from. We were rushed out of the dressing room when it was nearly closing time. I guess that is to be expected, but she should have told us when my friend went in with 11 items, that she had 5 minutes to try them on. We would have done things differently. But, the man who checked us out was very friendly. I will go back, but it’s hard to want to go to a store that is so full of people all the time since it is directly on Dam Square!

My favorite H&M location in Amsterdam! This is where you should be going to shop at H&M. ;) They have many floors, full stock, and two fitting rooms. At the top there’s the Home collection, something the other locations don’t have. Although it can get quite busy, I think it’s more organised than the other H&M shops, and they usually will have your size instead of having it sold-out! The fitting room in the second floor is always too busy, but they have one on –1 that is usually not that busy!

This in my favorite H&M in the city(used to be the one next to V&D, but I think this one has a larger selection of slightly better made clothes). Also like the home store upstairs. That said, it has a funny layout, not enough fitting rooms, too many men following around their women like sick puppy dogs and taking up precious aisle space and the staff are not helpful(or indeed easy to find). Try to go early in morning when there are fewer people.

At this location on Dam Square a male shopper must wind his way through three floors of women’s clothing and accessories to find the one floor, the top floor, with men’s clothing. The trip is worth it because they actually have some nice looking men’s clothes at relatively inexpensive prices. As with any department store these days you have to hunt down someone to ask questions and then there is the cash register island with it’s people to contend with. Regardless, this trip found me three pieces worth buying. I suck at buying clothing. I feel so out of place like a fish out of water, like a round peg in a square hole. So hopefully I bought things I’ll actually wear this time. LOL. I’ll be back.

This H&M location has a home store. Mind blown. Chic and cheap home line including beddings, pillows, curtains, towels, and candles. Think Ikea without having to hop into your car. Again, mind blown. The clothing selection at this location is not my favorite. It’s almost a little matronly. But if you’re looking for more conservative work appropriate pieces then this would be a good location — though H&M is not usually my destination for those types of clothes. I will definitely be back to stock up on some pillowcases. They had a sale bin of neutral colors for 3E each when I was there today. Not bad. Not bad at all.
