Being a spontaneous kind of guy, I decided to give this place a try. It was King’s Day and I happened to be passing by, and feeling the results of being out till the early hours of the night before, hadn’t eaten too much during the day and was pretty hungry. I was walking past D’Overkant, and decided to give it a try. Firstly it took forever to get served. Not due to the place being particularly busy, but just it seemed out of incompetence. The staff were very nice, but just didn’t have their act together at all.(Or were also hungover perhaps). When the Hamburger finally arrived, I’ve got to say that it was one of the worst burgers I’ve ever had. It actually takes a lot of effort to create such a poor quality meal. It had no flavor at all. It was literally a piece of beef that was fried, and that was it. At first I thought, «what’s happened to my tastebuds?» But then I realised that D’Overkant had truly produced the world’s first burger with all taste extracted from it. D’ Overkant is a name that will stay etched into my nightmares for years to come. It’s fine for a drink, but don’t whatever you do order a hamburger.

Service was extremely slow. The food was ok, but overpriced like everything else in this area next to the convention center. I would suggest getting sandwiches in the Albert Heijn if you need to dine and dash quickly.

Poor service. Waited for 10 minutes and had to grab the server that kept walking by us. Finally we got a menu and ordered then she came back and told us lunch was over. Maybe better luck with a different server but menu wasn’t impressive either but it’s a good location for a drink on the patio.

Naah, very average. Sure it’s by the convention center and so lots of clients at lunch time, but service was pretty ridiculous. Only a few menu floating around. Food was very average, waitress a little too cheeky borderline rude. So many restaurant on that strip it’s worth trying somewhere else.

Scheldestraat is my favorite in this neighborhood. Trent, by no too much, and the right mix of ethic, Amsterdam and expat. Much cheaper than in the city center and a lot friendlier as well.

Stopped here for a few drinks after an evening of bowling at the adjacent Knijn. I have to say that the interior was quite contemporary and nothing I would expect from an establishment in Amsterdam, especially where I could see a lot of locals. The menu is quite interesting, almost making me want to trek out to the RAI area once again during the daytime to get lunch. Our experience was limited to getting drinks and some snacks. The drinks don’t seem like they are overpriced, although the service wasn’t the best since the staff was limited to 2, while there were clearly at least a couple big groups present. That said, the over-burdened wait staff tried their best to stay cheery and serve everyone. The interior is nicely done — warm lighting and a TV screen that shows logs of wood burning in awesome high definition, making you warm instantly. That, along with a nice heating/cooling system. The restaurant is good for crowds, and the music is good. All in all, a nice place to get some good times rolling with good company outside the center of the city.
