Cocomama

Un peu d’inquiétude, 3 semaines avant notre week-​end à A’dam, toute la ville était bookée à 90%!
Renseignée dans le lonely planet, cette auberge située dans un ancien bordel est entre l’auberge de jeunesse et l’hôtel. Elle dispose de dortoirs et de quelques chambres doubles toutes différentes dans leur déco.
Pour ma part, il né restait plus que des chambres privées lors de ma réservation. C’est plus cher que le budget prévu (119 € par nuit pour deux) mais il né reste plus beaucoup d’autres alternatives sympas.
Nous sommes arrivés un peu tôt mais vous devriez être accueillis avec une coupe de champagne et un super accueil de l’hôte du jour. Elle nous montre les espaces communs (salon, cuisine, salle à manger) et nous explique quelques bons plans sur une carte de la ville qu’elle annote et nous remet. Liene était vraiment sympa de si bon matin. Vous serez aussi accueillis par Joop, le chat de la maison.
Ils organisent également des sorties/​activités tous les soirs (tournée des pubs, soirée film, dîner familial,…)
Il n’y a (malheureusement) pas de petit déjeuner prévu mais des céréales et différentes autres choses sont disponibles à la cuisine où vous pouvez vous préparer à manger et utiliser le frigo.
Pour la chambre, nous tombons sur la dénommée Tulip. J’avoue être un peu étonnée qu’ils aient mis une chambre double deluxe en sous sol, avec les passants de la rue juste au-​dessus. Mais la chambre est malgré tout agréable. Mention +++ au confort du lit; matelas, couette et oreillers inclus! Difficile d’en sortir au matin.
La petite salle de bain attenante est très correcte et propre. Et les produits «stop The water while using me» disponibles sont vraiment agréables.
Une petite bouilloire et du thé vous attendent sur la petite table à côté du fauteuil.
Vous pourrez aussi écouter votre musique sur des hauts parleurs via Bluetooth. A propos, le deuxième bémol est le wifi très difficile à connecter dans cette chambre.
J’y retournerais pour l’accueil et le confort du lit mais j’aimerais une chambre à l’étage (la forest, par exemple, me tente bien) et un meilleur wifi. Bien que nous étions là pour être surtout dehors…

Stayed here for two nights in the KLM room. The wifi could be stronger and our room was pretty small, but this was honestly one of the best hostels we stayed at on our trip. In a great location next to a tram stop, and the staff actually sat down with us and a map and gave us great suggestions for what to do in the city. They also have a cat named Joop who we fell in love with. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ would recommend.

Cocomama played a key part in the great memories I have from Amsterdam. It’s a small, intimate hostel, where you can chat with the super friendly staff or the equally friendly guests. Events are organised daily (from family dinner to sex show night), so even you shy people can mingle. The common area is cozy like someone’s living room, and the kitchen is fully equipped (free pasta and rice is provided!)
The dorms are cozy, clean, with ensuite bathroom and a big locker per bed where you can fit in your suitcase (bring your own padlock or rent it). Beds are super comfy and each one has a mini locker by their side.
And even though there’s a tram right out of the door, don’t worry about transportation: you can rent an ad-​free bike for just 5 euros a day, so you can look like a true Amsterdamer. And let’s face it, there’s no better way to navigate the city than on your own bike.

Awesome hostel with an amazing staff! Jo, Shannon, and Mo were great! Could not recommend this more if you’re looking to not spend too much for lodgings. The rooms were clean, private bathrooms in each room and they had organized social events each night. I would definitely stay again when I visit Amsterdam next.

I stayed at Cocomama with my boyfriend for 3 night during the beginning of March.
The Hostel is supposed to be a Boutique Hostel and to be honest is a nice and peculiar place but not an amazing one.
We stayed in a double room with ensuite called Tulip, on the ground floor.
When the lady showed us the room we noticed that the room was clean but not that clean as we were expected to have. The heater was also off so the room was cold and we had to wait few hours before having a proper warm room.
The hot water also had problems and didn’t work during the same night but the girl at the reception managed to solve that problem quickly.
The Wi Fi didn’t work from our room and the Wi Fi that you have in the kitchen (that was close to our room) works only if you are in the kitchen which is not good for a Boutique Hostel that is not cheap at all.
You don’t have breakfast but you can use the kitchen to make tea or coffe which is good.
Another thing that I didn’t like was that the small atrium that went to our bedroom was used as luggage storage so every time we went out our room we had luggage stored there to dodge.
The bed was comfortable and the position of the Hostel is close to a tram stop so you can go to the city centre or other places quite easily.
I personally suggest, if you are going to visit Amsterdam, to try to find another place cheaper than Cocomama… you will probably find something more interesting :)

Spent two nights here on the last segment of my trip around Europe and it was hands down the nicest and friendliest hostel I stayed in. Very clean, helpful staff, cool downstairs kitchen/​hang out area and easy access to anywhere in city center. Good recommendations from staff for things to do/​see/​eat, and would definitely stay here again! Thanks so much for making my stay so easy.

You must stay here. I will 100% be back when I come to Amsterdam next year, and I will recommend this place to all my friends. My only complaint is the Wifi was shotty, but everything else about this place made up for it and I still give it 5 stars. Room was great, bed was clean, hostel itself was clean /​cool. Right near a grocery store and a short walk from the city center.
Employees were awesome and super helpful. I had one of the best nights of my life with some people I met here, all around ~amazing~ and made my trip to Amsterdam that much better.

Cocomama is fantastic. The location is perfectly located. The front desk person couldn’t have been warmer or lovelier. We stayed in the Forest room and the high windows were lovely and the sound of the trolley and the bikes outside made this lovely whishing sound. The shower was completely awesome, great water pressure. They were having a spaghetti dinner that night that we were sadly not able to partake in, but it sounded like fun and all the people we passed who were staying there were nice and interesting. I would never want for anything else in a hotel. Wonderful stay!

This place was great! My favorite part was the common area they had with a fully equipped kitchen. Breakfast is not served here, but it’s not a big deal because you have a kitchen and grocery store down the block. I stayed in the brothel room which was pretty interesting– aka: pictures of boobies on the walls :) The place was pretty safe– lock on the outside door, lock to get into your room, and a locker inside your room. I was travelling by myself and met several people when I stayed at the hostel, so it was a pretty good place if you are doing the lone traveler thing :) Check out the cute market down the block!

I’ve been to Amsterdam many times this year and each time I come here, I try to stay at a different location just to understand the city better.
On this visit, I chose Cocomama for part of the trip. Cocomama is close to Fredericksplein, which is the main artery for some hip places you’ll want to go. It is near the city centre, but not too close, otherwise it gets tacky.
The ladies at the front desk are friendly and helpful. They give you a full tour of the hostel, which was once a brothel. Just my luck…
In the basement, there is a nice lounge area with shared kitchen and dining space. Lots of lovely couches to fall asleep on and a beautiful cat to keep you company. There is also a garden and you can go out there from 9AM — 9PM, only cigarette smoking allowed. Tons of books, movies to keep you entertained. You can also play old-​school Nintendo. Wow brings back memories. They will also do your laundry for € 6. If you don’t have a tablet or computer, they can loan you one. Good wifi throughout the hostel. If you arrive before check-​in time, you can leave your bag and check-​in later, the front desk open 9AM — 9PM.
I stayed in a 4 bed coed room aptly named, «The Brothel Room.» Beds are comfy and also there are lockers in the room if you need to lock up something. The bathroom is in the room, so not as big of a hassle to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
My only gripe is that they don’t serve breakfast. It is probably one of the only places I’ve stayed at in Amsterdam that doesn’t have breakfast. Bummer…

I would give this place 10 stars if I could! This was the first hostel I ever stayed in and was a very pleasent experience. Good location — everything in Amsterdam is walkable. The beds were one of the nicest and most comfortable I’ve stayed in. Velvet curtains around all of the beds for added privacy, bathroom and lockers in room. Staff is super nice and friendly, and organize gatherings/​outings and mingle with guests. My friends went to bed early on a Friday night, but I didn’t have to miss out on the nightlife.

The staff at Cocomama are what make this boutique hostel really great. Always happy to help and knowledgeable about the area.
The best part of this hostel is the common room/​kitchen/​lounge. As Cocomama isn’t a large chain hostel, this room is a nice way for people to meet and share a meal or drink.
I found there was lots of solo travellers staying here (including myself). This created a friendly, open atmosphere. It made me feel safe and was easy to socialise.

Ich kann Nadre nur zustimmen: Ein super Hostel, wenn man nicht unbedingt auf schmuddel Hostel-​Character steht. Es ist sehr sauber, mit Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet und bietet alles für einen entspannten, lockeren und trotzdem günstigen Amsterdamtrip.
Die Zimmer (wir waren einmal im Tulip und einmal im Milk&Cow Room, beides DZ mit Bad) sind sehr sauber, hübsch eingerichtet. Die Bäder sind brandneu und recht hochwertig ausgestattet. Es gibt sogar Duschgel und Shampoo for free.
Die Lage direkt am Albert Cuyp Markt mitten in De Pijp ist großartig, man kann zu Fuß fast überall hinkommen. Alternativ fahren vor der Tür aber auch die Linien 4 und 25, die das Hostel mit Bahnhof und Innenstadt/​Altstadt verbinden.
In der gut ausgestatteten und blitzsauberen Küche mit gemtülichem Wohnzimmer steht die sogen. Honesty Bar, ein Kühlschrank mit Wasser und Bier, wo man sich bedienen darf, wenn man pro Drink einen Euro ins Sparschwein wirft. Das Bier nimmt man am besten mit raus in den süßen Garten und lässt den Abend gut angehen.
Ich würde jedesmal wieder im Cocomama absteigen, wenn ich in Amsterdam bin. Großes Lob an das freundliche Team!

Ich habe während meiner Amsterdan-​Reise das Cocomama kennengelernt und kann es nur jedem empfehlen, der nicht direkt vor der Tür die Partymeile haben will. Die Lage ist trotzdem zentral, 10 Fußminuten zum Museumsplein, 15 zum Leidsplein, das Viertel De Pijp mit dem Albert Cuyp Markt ist gleich um die Ecke, genauso wie die Utrechtsstraat mit einigen Kneipen und die Straßenbahn zum Hauptbahnhof liegt 200 Meter entfernt.
Es beschreibt sich selbst als erstes Boutique Hostel Amsterdams und jedes Zimmer ist nach einem niederländischen Thema eingerichtet, so war ich beispielsweise im Cheese-​Room, weitere sind Windmills, Water oder Red Light District. Das Personal ist klasse und kümmert sich gut, gibt Tipps und man kann auch locker mit ihnen quatschen. Die Küche und das Wohnzimmer stehen allen offen und laden zum Kochen ein. Die Gäste sind überwiegend internationale Backpacker, die Stimmung gut und so verweilt man gerne im Wohnzimmer:) Cocomama ist einen Tick teuerer als die typischen Hostels und Jugendherbergen in Amsterdam, aber seinen trotzdem noch günstigen Preis auf jeden Fall wert!
Ich habe in einem 4er-​Zimmer geschlafen, direkt im Zimmer war ein kleines Bad mit Dusche. Die Betten sind echt super: Stabile Stockbetten aus massivem Holz, die kein bisschen wackeln und total bequeme Matratzen und Bettzeug haben. Bettwäsche muss keine mitgebracht werden, es wird vor der Ankunft bezogen. Es gibt im Haus wohl mehrere dieser 4er-​Zimmer und 6er-​Zimmer, außerdem können auch Doppelzimmer gebucht werden.
Amsterdam sollte auf jeden Fall auch mit dem Fahrrad erkundet werden und die kann man bei Cocomama günstig ausleihen. Die sind leider etwas heruntergekommen, aber so werden sie wenigstens nicht geklaut.
