A friend and I had the pleasure of renting 86 Sous for our holiday in Amsterdam. I can report a very pleasant experience. The owner was very responsive and patient with my many inquiries, and the overall process was hassle free and positive. He was also very amiable in person, and even helped arrange a dinner reservation for us when we arrived somewhat late in the day on the weekend. A great location for the the relaxed traveler who doesn’t want to party all night long. The unit itself is located in what I consider to be an optimal location. A couple streets over from the incredibly busy tourist areas, it is still a very short walk to all the fun. Outside your front door are a very nice café for lunch or breakfast, and an even better pub, my favorite in the city(‘t Arendsnest — see my related review). Inside you will find a nice little studio/1 bedroom apartment. A double bed sits behind a wall from the main living area, and there are separate little rooms for the bathing and toilet areas. The owner has wifi setup for your use, and a PC which has many of the local attractions already bookmarked and ready on your browser. The kitchen has an instant espresso maker which comes well stocked, as well as everything you would need for food preparation.(cooktop, oven, refrigerator, cookware, etc). There is also a good quality HDTV with numerous movie and local channels, although the remote control setup is a bit wonky. All-in-all, the interior is stylish and comfortable. One of our favorite features was that two bicycles are included for your use, and are right outside your front door. Very convenient! There is also a boat available, but it also comes with«the captain» as his insurance does not allow him to rent it directly. For those who are not experienced on the water, this is a plus. We wound up looking elsewhere however, as we were interested in a longer rental and adventuring on our own. There were a few minor issues, which prevented me from giving a «5 star» rating: 1) The bicycles were in mediocre repair. One would not change gears(fortunately it was stuck in middle gear) and the other had the chain either come off or break while we were away. The owner was very apologetic, and I’m sure this was repaired straight away, but I would have liked to have seen these maybe attended to before hand. 2) The mouse on the PC is ancient and functions poorly. It was serviceable, but a needless annoyance that could be repaired for a few pennies. 3) The need for multiple remote controls to start and setup the TV at each use could be better. One last thing to be aware of is that this is a basement apartment. There is little to no sunlight from the tiny window above the computer desk and through the front door. This was not a problem for us, as we had no intention of even being home during the day, and there is an abundant use of lamps. Overall I would absolutely stay here again(and plan to) and would recommend this to friends(and have).
