Most tables are set on a breezy outdoor terrace and have a spectacular view of the soaring cliffs surrounding the«magical town». We just had coffee and some appetizers — all of which were delicious. Serves gourmet mexican food. Worth heading off the main street to dine at this place. They also have free wifi.

If your thing is ambiance while dining El Ciruelo is the place you want to eat with a beautiful mountain view from an outdoor open air eating area. The food… while it was good, just not as top notch as the ambiance, I might not have the correct names to the dishes as many of my photos on this trip did not come out well… too much Tequila? Arrachera«El Ciruelo»(?) This was an appetizer, nicely grilled skirt steak(carne asada) rice, guacamole, tortilla covered in mole, and beans with queso fresco. Nice cut of meat lean, tender and flavorful, rice I didn’t try, guacamole was fresh, and mole was delicious! Cecina de Yecapixtla(?) I’m not sure if this is the correct dish as Cecina is served dry, it’s kinda on the beef jerky side though not as dry, anyhow I was told it was good, the orange is sliced carrots, with a side of silky mashed potato’s Chile en Nogada This is a traditional dish using ingredients Red, White and Green to resemble the Mexican Flag… a Pimped Out Chili Relleno sort of speak, roasted Poblano chilis are then stuffed with a picadillo mixture, covered with(the white) a sauce made of Walnut and topped with(the red) pomegranate seeds«this is a seasonal dish due to the pomegranates availability» The Highlight of the meal was obviously the View and the Chile en Nogada, if in the area it’s a place I’d recommend you come check out.

We sat in the middle of the dining area outside under a cover. The weather was perfect. There was a beautiful view of the mountain. We started with a cheese that we all split. I had the bean soup which was good and I would get it again. My friend had the tortilla soup(Sopa de tortilla«Marta»). It was a rather plain tomato flavor. Another friend had the avocado soup which was cold and delicious. The avocado soup won the round as best. For entrees, one friend had a huge meat dish on a platter which came with guacamole, beans, and an empanada with mole. It was called Cecina de Yecapixtla. It won the round of entrees! I had shrimp tacos(3 per order) that were good but I would order something different next time. The other friend had a chicken in cream dish that was also delicious and a tie for best dish. It was called, «Pechuga relleno de huitlachoce en salsa de queso de cabra.»
