In PV for a week and we were waiting for our reservation at Joe Jacks when a gaggle of drag queens came by with flyers for their show tonight at Act 2. The«Mama Mayhem» show was a unique drag interpretation of the best parts of 3 well known musicals. The stars of the show were from the US and did a great job of engaging the audience — I don’t think anyone could stop themselves from singing along, dancing or whistling throughout the show. We really enjoyed the show and met some great people from around the world in the process. Do yourself a favor and check out what shows are at Act 2 while you’re visiting!

The theater houses a variety of shows. The show we saw starred Hedda Lettuce, a drag queen from New York who did a stint here in PV. What I liked about her show is that she wrote and sang her own music(no lip syncing) and did a little poking of fun at the crowd. She was hilarious, quick witted. and creative! The theater features a small bar and lounge area up front. The theater itself is single level with a mezzanine-like second level loft, and seats about 90 total. Very intimate, with easy entry and exit. No long lines to deal with. TIPS: There’s a 2 drink minimum which included non-alcohol beverages. Leave the kids at home. Buy tickets in advance, just in case. We tried to walk in on a show the night before and it was sold out.

We’ve seen quite a few shows here, and they range from wonderful to WTF? Last year, we saw Dame Edna. Well, actually it was a «licensed performance» — essentially an impersonation of a female impersonator who was incredibly fantastic. The other night we saw«California Dreamin», a show about the Mamas and the Papas. It was so bad, I suggested our gay bear friends should flash mob it and sing along: turn it into Bear-a-oke. Last night though, we saw Kinsey Sicks. I thought I’d laugh myself into a kidney stone. Husbear was highly unamused. Heh. Mixed marriage. He’ll get even, trust me. Thirty years: all marriages have an element of revenge. There are multiple theaters here, and the first few rows are their preferred seats. I don’t see the value: it’s not like you’re getting better seats, free drinks or something intrinsic for your higher priced tickets. On the plus side, they sell drinks right at your seat. Now, if you need a little snack before the show — Nacho Daddy is nearly next door, cheaper than a politican’s promise and fast, so you can fill up on tacos and margaritas for two for around $ 10. Oh, and they have trivia contests. Meanwhile, with a little dutch courage you can face the show. Often its boarding like an airline and whenever you show up they give you a card for your group number. Just don’t get a seat under the air conditioners which will freeze your Unilocalers off.

The Main Stage, The Red Room Cabaret, and Encore Lounge all make up Act II Stages and are a hard combination to beat. I can’t tell you how many shows I have been to but I can say I have enjoyed everyone of them. The Main Stage is the larger venue and home to shows such as The Voice of Vallarta weekly(a personal favorite), What a Drag 2015(so much fun and a very successful charity event), The PV Men’s Chorus(always an honor) and the many plays and performers that make the theatre their home during the season. The Red Room is a smaller, intimate venue with singers, musicans, and comedians both locally and from around the world always a great night of entertainment. Before and after the show, don’t miss the Encore Lounge. A great place to meet friends for a cocktail or cool off at weekly Karaōke and Trivia. I hear there is lots of great entertainment awaiting us this upcoming season.
