Cenote Chaak tun

Cenote Chaak Tun is a bit pricey comparing, but a guided tour is included with snorkeling gear, wetsuits. shoes and flashlights (I have been to Cenote Ikil and only life savers where provided).
You get to go two different parts of the same Cenote, our guide Francisco-​Paco-​Pancho was very knowledgeable (definitely I like that cause I always come up with the weirdest question or observations).
There are bats and parts of the tour are dark and a bit small. I believe most people should be okay with this cause I get a bit claustrophobic and I was okay.
I brought my water proof camera, and I wasn’t afraid to lose it. If you lose something, the guide should be able to retrieve it, but he won’t guarantee it. Somebody lost the snorkel and Francisco was able to get it.
Worth Checking the Cenote out if you are in Playa. It is a taxi ride away. Depending where you are in Playa and if you are good at bargaining you can pay 120 – 200 pesos. The entrance to the Cenote is $ 30

We were so surprised to find such a gem in the forest! Viator mentioned it as one of the top 10 things to do in Playa del Carmen, so we booked through them. They picked us up from our rental property and delivered us to Chaak Tun. We were met by Able who outfitted us with life vests, wet suits, flashlights, masks and snorkels. He lead us down a rain forest path into the wet caves. It was thrilling, unusual, and beautiful. His knowledge of the cenotes was delivered in a fun banter with our crowd. I highly recommend this as a morning activity, fewer crowds early in the day.

At first I was skeptical about it because of how it looked but I have to say WOW! what an amazing tour we had Ricardo as our tour guide very informative and friendly, made us feel comfortable and very helpful!
My mom who doesn’t know how to swim went with Ricardo and he even took time to make her feel comfortable to do the tour, all the caves along with their history were amazing!
Something to not be missed if you are at Playa del Carmen.
I would definitely do it again. They inform you of the water temp. And give you options before going into the water. In the last cenote you get to swim and explore it yourself which is such a good experience.

My husband and I came here when visiting Playa Del Carmen. We took a cab there because we could not find any public transportation that went to Chaak Tun. It was not a very expensive cab ride and only took about 15 minutes. It cost about $ 30 USD to do the tour per person. Water shoes, life vests (if wanted), a waterproof flashlight, wet suits (if wanted, I recommend this because after 2 hours in the water it got very cold), and helmets (if wanted) were provided in addition to the tour. I also recommend bringing cash because you are in the middle of the jungle and the WiFi is not strong with the credit card machine. Our tour guide, Abel, was incredible. He did the tour both in Spanish and English. He was informative, funny, and showed us such a good tour. You get to explore 2 different caves while on this tour and you learn a bit about Mayan culture. The caves are filled with stalactites and stalagmites and it makes you feel like you are in the depths of the earth. The flashlights allow you to see in the dark caves as well as into the depths under water which can be hundreds of feet deep! In the second cave, you get to sit in a shallow portion and rub the sand on your skin, like the Mayans did to look younger. Abel told us that the sheen on oil we were seeing on the water was from people wearing sunscreen in the water, which he explained was very bad for the environment. So I recommend refraining from wearing it. You’re under ground so you won’t need it. This was such an unbelievable, cool site. It’s hard to put into words what it was like. You should just go experience it for yourself! I only wish we could have gotten a little more Mayan history with the tour.

Me puedes explicar ¿por qué? Pero ¿POR QUÉ? Hermosos lugares que nos entrega la naturaleza caen en las peores manos de la humanidad. Esto pasó con un hermosisimo cenote, el poco explorado Chaak Tun. Queda muy cerca de Playa del Carmen por avenida Juárez. LleguÉ por casualidades de la vida, porque andaba conociendo el barrio. La primera gran sorpresa, el valor de la entrada, un excesivo precio por simplemente ser turista, me cobró $ 350MXP. Yo sorprendida le pregunté porqué tan caro si en Internet salía $ 100MXP, respondió que esos precios están malos. Ya estaba ahí, así que entré. El primer cenote, es impresionante aunque es pequeño, entras a una cueva que al meterte al agua, descubres un techo hecho totalmente de estalactitas, una perfecta obra de arte, que el hombre sería incapaz de imitar. Salí en estado de congelamiento porque está bien fría el agua. En dirección al segundo cenote, empieza el recorrido por un puentecito que pasas agachado para no pegarte en la cabeza, al entrar, descubres un gran cenote que en el centro hay un árbol (me remitió al árbol de la vida), es como un oasis de luz dentro de la oscuridad. Hay muchos murciélagos (que odio, porque me asustan). El paseo es bien bonito, quedas con una gran información de imágenes. Hasta ahí iba todo relativamente bien, hasta que llegó la hora de irme a casita con estas hermosas imágenes en mi cabeza. Adivinen qué pasó, me robaron mi dinero del casillero, el lugar no se hizo cargo y esto lleva a mi pregunta del inicio ¿Por qué estos lugares caen en manos de mala gente?. Me gustaría poder recomendarles que fueran porque vale totalmente la pena, pero simplemente se los dejo a su juicio.

Es un cenote fantasma, porque nadie lo conoce, nadie sabe cómo llegar y está a nada de Playa del Carmen. De la concurrida avenida Juárez todo derecho hasta que llegas. Cruzas primero la carretera federal, la calle 115, despoblado, poblado, despoblado, subes, bajas y cuando se acaba el camellón se hace de dos carriles la carreterita, sigues derecho hasta llegar a una casetita improvisada y de allí sigues derecho como 5 km. Llegamos de ride (toda una experiencia nuestra entrada triunfal bajándonos de un tráiler). Habíamos visto en internet que costaba $ 100 la entrada y $ 50 a locales. Yo acababa de tramitar mi IFE de Quintanarroense, así que yo muy mona, me presenté como local. $ 350 cada una, iba con una amiga. ¿Que, qué??? Era un señor joven chaparrito, morenito, pelón, con cara de tranza. Le dijimos que decía $ 100 en la página y nos dijo «es que subió» y bueno, pues total que por disque buena onda, nos «dejó pasar» por $ 240 MXP cada una, mientras que entre risitas, comentarios coquetos y albures, nos empezaba a caer medio gordo, pero pues no nos iba a arruinar la experiencia. El cenote, ni qué decir, es HERMOSO, son dos partes, una oscura que está iluminada con luz artificial y está impactancte, una cavernita preciosa y la segunda parte que fue la que más me gustó. Entras entre las piedras por un pasillo chiquitito y luego se abre el panorama, una caverna gigante cerrada, en medio de la bóveda, tiene un hueco por donde entra la luz del sol y abajo hay un árbol, se le llama «la playa» porque está justo en medio de la caverna y este hermoso árbol decora con su verde esplendor iluminado por los rayos de sol que se cuelan a través de sus ramas. Pues la «ganga» de los $ 240 había valido la pena, es un lugar maravilloso.
Al regreso, le faltaban $ 1000 en la cartera a mi amiga, yo había visto el dinero porque antes de ir al cenote, habíamos hecho escala en un cajero, o sea, abrieron nuestro locker para robarnos, de súper mal gusto. Me quejé y todo, me dijeron que si estábamos dispuestas a encarar al tipo y le dijimos que por supuesto, pero nunca pasó nada. Después un amigo fue y le robaron su celular, súper mala onda. Es hora que yo no he regresado, aunque el cenote es precioso y si no estuviera ese tipo a cargo del cenote, lo recomendaría ampliamente. Así que si aún así quieres ir, ve, vale la pena, pero no lleves NADA de valor contigo.
