I moved to Mexico for many reasons. Initially, I came here planning to stay just six months, to recuperate from double hip replacement surgery, where physical therapy and fitness training are far more affordable than in the United States, and where an hour of therapy or training is not tied to the vanilla, generic pablum routine only an American insurance company will so stingily pay for. I found what I came here for and decided to make it home; for the quality of life, made all the better by local professionals like Lic. FT Jose Miguel Reyes Gomez, or simply«Miguel.» Miguel is my physical therapist and fitness trainer. My body was a mess from a year of immobility preceding my hip replacements. Recovery, rehabilitation, and getting my body back were and remain daunting. I was lucky to find this former pro-footbal player turned therapist and trainer. He knows his stuff. Miguel is something of a genius. In the first month, with a combination of ultrasound therapy, electric current therapy, and good old fashion massage, Miguel broke up what feels like ALL of the scar tissue beneath my incisions. The surgeon told me the scar tissue could take a year to recede and heal itself. Miguel put me 10 months ahead of schedule on this front. The absence of scar tissue has accelerated my mobility. Miguel gave me sets of exercises in the gym and for the pool that further moved things along. Within four more weeks, I was walking without a cane most if the time when not in public(I use the cane in public for personal space and I am afraid of being knocked or jostled). I still have challenges. It takes a long time to heal. Keeping new hips lubricated requires a lot of movement. I have all the pre-surgery tendonitis and inflammation. It’s hard to sit for a long time. But so is being on my feet for long spells. I don’t recommend hip replacements . I recommend Miguel Reyes for physical therapy and fitness training, especially rehabilitative fitness training. After a brief hiatus, I am back in his care; and likely always will be on some basis. He is worth a week or two in south central Mexico to get your self straightened out if you need a jumpstart. Talented. A real gift that I met him.
