Who would have thought that an art gallery would be situated between rows of big bungalows in a quiet neighbourhood in section 16? If you feel like escaping the city chaos for a few hours, then this gallery isn’t too far off to hide from the world and immerse yourself in some art appreciation. SGFA is located at a big bungalow at the end of a road and street parking is available. No appointment is required prior to your visir and you are free to walk through the doors and browse on your own. The two storey gallery is pretty huge and is an award winning eco building designed by famous architect Ken Yeang. If you look closely enough, there are bioswales, turf ramps and a wind catcher inside and outside the building as part of its eco friendly nature. No air conditioning is also installed as the gallery relies on natural wind that comes through the wind catcher. The artworks displayed at SGFA are asian contemporary artists who have many accolades to their names such as Zac Lee and Ru Yi Tan. Take a walk outside on the grounds of the gallery and you’ll find art sculptures and project collaborations with college students on display as well. SGFA has also recently started serving coffee at the gallery so you can savour a cup or two in solitude surrounded by greenery and art.
