First of all, it took me a while to locate this place. It’s actually not that hard to find — as long as you’re at Block H of Plaza Damas, then you just need to spot this small shop with blue and white umbrellas. However, for someone who’s always lost like me, it did take me a good 15 minutes walking from blocks to blocks. The brunch crowd was definitely still there at around 3pm on a public holiday, when I visited. While they have specials for lunch, some of the options were already sold out. As I wanted to try their Moroccan chicken, that was gone. I picked roast beef rib eye instead, and of course you could still order from their menu. Their menu — made into a magazine like small book, and you could see the efforts they have put in producing it. The whole space was indeed very photogenic and IG-worthy. Seats are pretty limited here, so I bet if you’re here during peak hours like around twelve, then it’d be hard to actually get a table. Roast beef I tried was RM34, and they swapped my chips for roasted vegetables, as they have just finished their previous batch of chips. My friend ordered their yoghurt baked eggs. Portions are fair here, and food are actually good. Imagine the frustration of spending a while to locate a place and if their food isn’t good — luckily that wouldn’t be the worry here. Roast beef was tender and perfectly cooked in my opinion. And, I like the attention they pay to details like their salad dressing here, which is very refreshing, and you could taste the fresh lemon in there. Price isn’t exactly on the cheap side here, but you’re at this hood and and I think that their prices are pretty fair, given the quality of food, of course. Would definitely return.

I drool every time i see a pic posted on IG by Tray Café whether its their desserts or their mains. Sadly i’ve been here only twice… i do wish to come here more often but i live all the way in Ampang and lately my working hours are just crazy. Well the times that ive been there i have never been disappointed and their desserts have a drool factor of sky high! I had their Nutella Chocolate Fudge Cake. it was a chocolatey cake stacked in between hazelnut meringue and smothered with Nutella and the other time i had the Flourless Hummingbird cake and i left with a very happy tummy and was smiling all day. Yes cake does that to me. i think its better than sex sometimes! hehe. For their mains i had the salmon salad which was yummy and had the taste of summer. I like tray café’s concept for not having a permanent menu as they constantly surprises you on what they have available for the day.

Tray Café is a homely café which offers comfort homecooked food with a twist. The menu selection changes as they offer daily specials that range from quiches to pastas, stews and salads. However, the space inside the café is pretty small so you may want to come early especially on weekends. They don’t do dinner but have recently opened up friday nights for dinner to experiment. Tray’s food has never disappointed me and I’ve always been tempted by their unusual spin on homecooked food as they give it a gourmet twist and use fresh ingredients. I would highly recommend their salmon quiche and beef stew, both packed with flavour and comes in decent portion with reasonable prices. Their cakes are also to die for especially the banana cake drizzled with salted caramel. I’ve been ordering whole cakes from them for birthday events as their cakes are fresh and delicious.

We stumbled upon Tray Café as we don’t usually frequent the Plaza Damas area very much. My first impression of the place was that the parking lot was kind of old and dodgy looking. However, back to Tray Café, their food changes daily as they a special daily menu to keep things interesting. Breakfast is available until 12.30pm for all you late risers so you still get to enjoy their excellent breakfast menu. Another noteworthy trait of Tray is that their cakes are freshly baked there as we saw them coming out as we were having our lunch. Seating here is a problem during peak hours as the place is pretty small, so do try to show up early. They don’t accept reservations.

Tray café is easily the best gem you can ever find in Plaza Damas. They serve sandwiches, wraps, pies, pastas, roasted dishes and tons of dessert offerings. There was a big crowd in the café and I was lucky to have found a place for 2 instantly. The menu that I took was only for drinks and small bites. Their secret daily menu is on this blackboard with mouth watering description that comes with it. The menu changes everyday and by looking at the trays of food that is being carried out of the kitchen just baffles me and my friend. They all look so pretty and appetizing. We narrowed down our choices to salmon and roast beef. I took my flat white and juice for my friend. The juice is extremely pleasant, watermelon, lychee and blueberry mix. The flat white on my end was superb too. The food didn’t take too long to arrive and we just couldn’t believe how beautiful it looks and the aroma coming from the food just makes you salivate. Digging in to both dishes we have instantly decided that we shall come back and try everything on the menu. The food is amazing! To end the meal off with scones and carrot cake with salted caramel was the best choice we had. We were very full and still the every bite feels like the very first bite. The bill did come to a hundred so this isn’t the cheapest place to go to.

Tray Café is easy to miss when you’re walking around Plaza Damas. But if you’re on the search for good cake, this is where you want to stop. It’s a small place, but it doesn’t reflect the variety of cakes and desserts they have on offer. They rotate their cakes so you don’t have to eat the same thing every time. My favourite so far is the banana and walnut crumble cake, buttermilk scones and Nutella chocolate cake. I love a good butter cake and I’m yet to try Tray’s version. They have savoury food items too. I once had a linguine for lunch and it was pretty average — and not cheap too. I reckon the quality of baked goods are far superior than their savoury stuff so if it’s your first time, go straight for a slice of cake. Also, skip the coffee or tea here. I’d rate them as average, and you’re probably better off getting a cup from The Brew Culture.
