Mamak Andersen

It’s a classic shisha joint with a selection of local food and snacks. They have always been in good business for about 2 years now. I’ve become pretty familiar with the place. It’s a nice place to chill and catch up with your friends, have some shisha and even play some board games. They do charge a few ringgit for that, just a heads up and also, they charge the unusual mama prices for malaysian food and drinks. I wouldn’t exactly go there everyday for a highly priced mamak.
The usual customers are usually businessmen and college kids. That’s the usual crowd of the place and service may be slow at times but all in all, everything is pretty decent.

Don’t understand the hype of this place. Some friends of mine mentioned this mamak. Supposedly an awesome place to hang out with friends, shisha and watch the game. So i figured, it’s in Solaris right? It can’t be that bad. How wrong was i?
The setting of the place is relatively comfortable. I found it odd though that they use (fake) leather chairs. You’ve got people smoking shisha and cigarettes. With ashes everywhere. Are you sure leather is the material to go? I mean my seat had cigarette burns and ash marks. But i figured, it’s a mamak. They’re not really known for their pristine cleanliness.
I ordered a bucket of fries, lamb chop and a coke. My friend had ordered fish and chips and an orange juice to go with her meal. Our shisha came first, and it was only decent. Nothing really different about it, just that it’s slightly more pricey. And our food took about 20 minutes? Yeah. it took awhile.
Unfortunately for my friend, her fish was cold in the middle and her fries were just plain bland. Mine however was not too bad. Gravy was pretty good. But i’m a sucker for mushroom gravy, so you might have a different opinion. I honestly would only suggest you get their appetisers here. Oddly enough, the bucket of fries was perfectly salted.
Overall, come here for the game and decent shisha. It is a very popular hang out spot here in Hartamas. But i still prefer a regular old mamak.

Another place that got trendy. My friends were telling me to try out this place in Publika, so we had a night out here. At first sight, it looks like a nice and cosy place to sit down and relax. But the horror begins when the food and shisha are served.
Imagine having a Lasagna, a creamy and aromatic one, as you dig yourselves in, thinking «Wow, this is great! I like how the Lasagna go with the sauce!» and then boom, ice cold. Yes, the Lasagna was ice cold on the inside, the greatest sin ever when making pasta.
So I thought, fine, some places are bound to have this happen. Then when the shisha came, all I could inhale was ashes from the coal. I’m not sure if this happens to everyone or just me. But I definitely stopped visiting that place.
