Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra MPO

My first philharmonic orchestra experience. Being to this local philharmonic orchestra has been something that I would like to accomplish since more than ten years back but I didn’t do until February this year when I brought another friend of mine to enjoy the performance together with me. The hall was majestic, the performance was good and the conductor was really passionate in leading the orchestra. The seat that you pay for is worth the price. If you are looking forward to buy a ticket and watch a performance, simply select the seat according to the price range of your preference.

My friends from England have great influence in me when it comes to classical music. They are classical fans and one of them is also a music teacher in UCSI. Needless to say much, Philharmonic Orchestra in KLCC is the best place that you can get in Malaysia!!!
I’ve been here many times since I was in my secondary school and most importantly, my school is located quite near to KLCC. Back then it was a school trip if we have tickets to watch a performance.
They are quite strict with the dresscodes, just like in Royal Albert Hall, a very English thing to me. So please dressed up properly! No flipflops :)
What intrigue me the most is that the sound systems are really good here! Usually if there is a performance, you would expect to be there for at least 2 hours for a nice performance. I was told that if you are a musician and when you have the chance to perform here, you are one of the good musicians in the country!

If you want to listen to a classic concert I recommend you to go to a show for the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. You can buy the tickets online on the MPO website and the price is quite accessible.
The concerts usually last one to two hours. Make sure you are not late, because you won’t be able to enter afterwords, even if you have the ticket bought.
The experience during a show here it’s out of this world, and from time to time it’s a pleasure to try something different on a weekend night.
P. S. The dress code is smart casual

Don’t we all get that feeling where we want to dress up and go see or listen to something spectacular.
Well if you don’t, then don’t go here, but if you are more like me and a lover of classics — you probably will end up at the dewan filharmonik petronas!
Sooner or later (i would suggest sooner) you will experience something out of this world!
I think this is the most elegant and classy place that I’ve seen in Kuala Lumpur.
The interior is just breathtaking and just going there you get into this uplifting mood.
Most of the big classic concerts in Kuala Lumpur happen here.
It is a little pricey, but nothing compared to Western European standards.
The only thing I was a tad surprised about is that people don’t really put effort in their outfits when they go to see a classical show. You will find someone dressed in flipflops and t– shirt, while someone next to them might be dressed in a Tuxedo.
Hence, I guess you can’t go wrong, but at the same time it is a bit confusing.

Wow. I am speechless. This place is out of this world. I have never been to a Philharmonic of this size before. The décor is splendid and the sound. No words for it.
You have to go for at least one event here. The cost is not very high, depending on what is going on. The event I was at was RM30 and the second one they were offering, a few days away, was RM60. It is worth it, trust me.
I love classical music and this reminded me how little time I dedicate to it. The event I got to participate to was with Benjamin Zander. If you don’t know who he is already, look him up. This was a pre event to one of his larger concert. It was amazing. I received a music lesson, a behind the scene and story telling or Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Mozart’s music and a life lesson. I loved it.
I haven’t stopped listening to Classical music since then (2 weeks ago, to be exact). I highly recommend this place for at least one time in your life even if you are a local or a visitor.

Dewan Philharmonik is the home of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and it is located in KLCC.
They have performances from August to June, normally on the weekends, and tickets can be bought online at the MPO website. The orchestra performs a great variety of music, from soundtracks to the best of classical music.
This is my favorite thing to do on a saturday night in KL, and I really recommend it for people who like classical music or are just interested in having a different night out. It is a great option for a date, since the price is quite accessible, and it can definetely set the mood for a late dinner afterwords.
The concerts usually last one to two hours, normally with a 20 minute interval. It is very important to be punctual, since the people who are late are prevented from entering the hall in the middle of the concert.
The dress code is also something to take into consideration. People wearing jeans, flip-​flops, shorts and other casual outfits might not be allowed in the hall. Smart casual should do just fine.
