Chung Hwa Street Yong Tau Fu

Another gem hidden from the hectic city life. It will be quite a search if you’re not familiar with the area. Located behind a run down building is this food heaven.
My friends would constantly wonder «you go to tuition in KL yet you’ve not tried the famous Yong Tau Fu?». I was puzzled at first not knowing where this famous Yong Tau Fu is. Till I stumbled across it while trying to seek shade from the heavy rain one day.
Yong Tau Fu is basically a variety of vegetables stuffed with fish paste, bean curd, tofu skin, and fish balls.
I didn’t find the variety here impressive. I’ve had better fish balls that were less chemical like tasting. It had more of a flour taste rather than fish.
Prices start from RM1.20 a piece.
Parking will be an issue so I suggest parking else where and be there early!

My friends have long recommended me to try this stall out.
Out of curiosity, I went to testify their recommendation.
Similar to other Yong Tau Fu stall, it sells a wide variety of food (fishball, taufu, stuffed meat in chilli, lady fingers and aubergine, fried beancurd with stuffed meat and many more). To be frank, it doesn’t taste super amazingly great, it is just decent. Each unit costs RM1.20 and a plate of rice costs RM1.
Fish balls are very spongy. It kinda gives me a feeling that the fish ball is stuffed with high amount of sodium benzoate (unhealthy chemical!). FYI, without additional chemicals, fish balls should not and will not be spongy. Ingredients like lady fingers and aubergine are fresh. I guess that depends on your luck as each batch of food is prepared and fried separately.
I’d recommend you to come on weekdays (not weekends). The queue on weekends is crazilly long and it doesn’t really worth your time. Furthermore, it is quite hard to park your car nearby. There is an open space parking area beside the stall, however, it is quite expensive (goes by hourly rate of RM3 at least) and it is frequently full). I went on weekday to avoid the hassle.
Overall, good food but not exciting one.
