KitKat Chocolatory

Limited selection, high prices, identical to the one in Tokyo Station basement. Not really worth making a trip out here. They have limited flavors only available at the chocolatory locations but honestly non of them were that great or special.

Small selection and expensive for what you get. However the flavors are exclusive to these locations and you won’t find them elsewhere. We got a selection of butter, strawberry maple, pistachio raspberry, and green tea with kinako.

I was quite disappointed when I finally found this place. Its a small little shop in one corner of the food court. There was only four flavors of Kit Kats that were available at the time and it was super expensive for such a small packaging. You can actually go to the grocery stores and find bigger bags for cheap, but of course the flavors offered at the shop was exclusive to the shop. Lower your expectations before coming here.

Lower your expectations and you will be fine. For me I’m glad I went just to say I went and took a picture just because it is the only one of its kind.
Just don’t go expecting to walk away with chocolate… unless you can convince yourself that this ‘gourmet kit kat is truly worth four times the price. My biggest issue was the price for what I wanted… which was just a sample of all the flavors… so price per 1 bar… yes, one little bar of kit kat would have run me $ 3 per bar. No thank you. I prefer to bring home a giant bag of mochi for my friends and family for the same price as 5 bars of different flavor kit kats.
Good news is that it is in an exciting area of town with lots of restaurants and shopping so make a day trip out of it!
And if you go out to Nagano they do sell larger cheaper boxes of kit kats for only 8 bucks and their flavors were apple and cherry! And at the souvenir shop in Akihabara you can find also decently priced kit Kat flavors including rum raisin and wasabi!

The No1DP has faithfully gotten me all the flavors offered in this store since its inception. On his latest visit he confirmed my greatest fear: both the Ikebukuro and Tokyo Station stores no longer sell the chili chocolate Kit-​Kat special boxes. I don’t know if this is temporary or permanent. It’s going to be a long grieving process as having a box or two during study sessions has allowed me to tackle all my didactic and clinical tests so far. I only have five more boxes left, gotta make them last until the end of my program in February.
I was able to try two new flavors: Ginger and the Sublime Raspberry Bitters.
Ginger: This box replaced chili chocolate. Though the base is milk chocolate and the ginger flavor lingers in the bar, it is a poor excuse of a replacement. I enjoyed that hotness that lingers in the chili chocolate and the ginger just doesn’t invoke the warm feelings I get as I eat the bar. I understand if they’re trying to cater more to the Japanese audience with this flavor as ginger is more familiar to them and compared to Indian or Thai cuisine they are used to more mild spice levels.
Raspberry Bitters: Made from the same chocolate as the regular bitters. I prefer this as there is actually a flavor. Even with a higher quality dark chocolate a chocolate Kit-​Kat is just that. It’s the flavors that make it shine. This is also subject to the «limit 3» rule as the regular dark chocolate bitters and if you come in later in the day most likely will be sold out.
With this review I absolve the No1DP from bringing me Kit-​Kats from this store unless they announce a new flavor on their website (
). As of this writing they sell ginger, orange cocktail, green tea with kinako, strawberry maple and cream cheese. None of these flavors made a good impression on me as much as chili chocolate and certainly none of them are worth a trip to the store. I also found a new source of crack (Royce Potato Chip Chocolate) and will now be requesting these as omiyage each visit.

I’ve noticed in other Unilocal reviews about the limited types of Kit-​Kats found here. The chocolatory will only sell Kit-​Kat flavors that are specific to the chocolatory. The other Kit-​Kats people refer to are the regional flavors, which can be bought in any store (but better luck in stores where you can buy omiyage) of that region. For example, I can only buy the Tochigi Strawberry flavor in any store somewhere in Tochigi Prefecture. Hope this clarifies confusion amongst Kit-​Kat enthusiasts.

My expectations were way too high, hence only 3 stars. I was expecting some kind of Kit Kat only Willy Wonka factory. Nope, just a corner store. Nevertheless, they had flavors you don’t find in the US: Orange, green tea, strawberry maple, etc. So unless you happen to be in the immediate area, just get your Kit Kats somewhere else.

I was disappointed to see that this chocolatory is just a corner in the food floor. Also there is just a limited selection of kit kats to choose from. When I went there there was only Strawberry Maple, Japanese Chili, Green Tea Kinako, Sakura Green Tea, Orange Cocktail, Cheese and various sublime versions.
The flavors come in boxes of 4 packs of 2 sticks so 8 sticks total for ¥400. At these prices, you can find cheaper flavored kit Kat’s at the Japanese airports or various shops in Odaiba.
Though expensive, these flavors are exclusive to this chocolatory so if you are a kit kat enthusiast, its worth a visit.

You can’t find the ones here sold in other places. These ones are specialty Kit Kats. Possibly when they have newer flavors coming out, those ones will then go to stores.
Anyway, I also thought it was going to be much bigger and have more options. Nope. It was located in the basement with a bunch of other stores. It’s in a small corner, and I really just said, «That’s it??» I checked the flavors, and here they are:
Strawberry Maple, Orange Cocktail, Chili, Matcha Kinako, & Cream Cheese. All priced at 4 Yen each.
I got a lot. for family and friends of course. I bought some for myself to try out.
Ended up spending close to 80 bucks lol.
Strawberry Maple– Tasted like strawberries.
Orange cocktail– Okay
Chili– You’ll get the hint of chili once you start eating it more.
Matcha Kinako– Not bad
Cream Cheese– Literally smells like cheese when you open the wrapper, but to me it was the best one.
I also wanted to try their ice cream that they had. It’s a chocolate soft serve with dustings of matcha & 4 baked kit kats. You heard right. baked kit kats.
BUT, it wasn’t freshly baked, so it wasn’t that good. I mean, it was pretty average. Pretty disappointing.

It’s just a chocolate shop dedicated to Kit-​Kat. Nothing is special here. They have the same flavors that you could buy anywhere in Japan. If they will come up with different flavours that you could only get here or a Kit-​Kat cake, drink, candy, sushi or anything they can think of, a trip to here will be worth it. For now, just save your time and money and don’t bother coming here. You will be dissapppointed, trust me.

There really isn’t much here other than 4 – 5 varieties of overly packaged and definitely overpriced Kit-​Kats. I could have sworn hearing that a large variety of Kit-​Kats could be found, and if you thought the same thing, brace yourself for disappointment. This is for people who really have nothing better to do with their money. You can definitely find better varieties at local conbini stores. If you want to pick up a gift for friends in other countries for your trip back, buy it at the airport where there are better options at much better quantities and prices. This place is a ripoff, which I should have figured from the name.
