Narita Express

I opt for the NEX when staying in Hotels near Tokyo Station or Shinagawa. However if am staying in Japan for a while and have more luggage then I find it easier to take the orange «Airport Limousine «because they land you right at your hotel steps. The Airport Limo is also a lowere rate.
All the NEX trains are clean and comfortable. There are a few water closets on the trains, trash bins and luggage racks near the doors and a nice view as you speed through the country to/​from Narita/​Tokyo.
The only reason I give this train 4 stars is that I do like the convenience of being dropped off right at your hotel v. the trouble of getting out of Tokyo Station. Maybe I am just getting old and lazy?

I now need to compare everything with American’s.
Compared to SFO then BART and Caltrain… takes forever.
NRT and narita express… great!

Ridiculously easy way to get from Narita airport to any area of Tokyo. From Narita to Shinjuku took about 75 minutes and cost around 3,200 Yen ($ 26 USD roughly).
The train offers an area to store and lock your bags. Each reserved seat has a ton of leg space and offers an overhead area for carry on bags as well. The train is well kept and maintained on a very regular basis.
I wouldn’t recommend using the NEX to get around Tokyo for sightseeing and what not (use the JR for all that), but it is perfect for the trip to and from the airport.
IMO, well worth the extra couple bucks to a) get to your destination faster and b) ride in comfort.

Great way to get to and from Narita airport from Tokyo. The train is speedy, quiet, and comfortable. There are racks for suitcases at the ends of cars, and suitcase locks are provided (but nobody used them).
At the Tokyo station, the tracks which you board then aren’t clearly specified or marked. It was very uncertain whether I was waiting at the right track. Wish they’d make this more clear.

Great to use for arrival and departure. If you get the JR Pass for Tourist this train can be used. We used it to get to Tokyo in about 45 minutes.

I was in a hurry and did not know about the reserved seating, so I was surprised when someone came and wanted my seat. However, there were no stops until Narita so I just waited until the train left the station and found an empty seat.
I used my PASMO card to pay on exit.
Overall it was a pleasant experience and more comfortable than thr «Friendly Bus» I used when I arrived in Japan.

Easy to navigate, clean, fast and quiet. And the seats, they are huge!

N’Ex by JR Railways is a quick and convenient way to get to Tokyo from NRT. One-​way tourist tickets are available on level B1 of Terminal 1 and 2. 15,000 yen with a non-​Japanese passport during promotional period.
All seats are reserved and baggage is stored at the end of the cars. Cars are very quiet.
There is a snack cart that comes by. Their snacks are excellent and affordable!
Seats are very spacious (even in non-​Green cars) with reclining cloth seats and plenty of overhead storage. There are also individual vents.
~57 minutes from NRT to Tokyo station!

General tip: when going into Tokyo, book a N’EX Direct for 1500 yen upon showing passport.

A great and very easy way to get from the airport to and from downtown Tokyo.

There are various ways for travelers to get from Narita to Tokyo and the prices varies from 1000 Yen to 22,000 Yen if you take a taxi.
Normally a one way Narita Express would have cost you over 3000 Yen but if you are a holder of a Non Japanese passport, do yourself a flavour and just give the Express a try at 1500 Yen!
The ride is fast and relaxing. You would have your assigned seat and even can buy a drink and snack on board as the same price at one of those vending machines.
But you need to get your ticket at the JR EAST Travel Service Center instead at the ticket booth. And no worry if you don’t speak or read the language as the staff speaks English really well.
This special fare is only good for Narita to Tokyo only and if you want to travel back you have to pay full price.

This is probably the best way to Tokyo from Narita and vice versa. I’ve taken other modes of transport from the airport, such as the limousine bus, private car, or taxi. Comparing the Narita Express to all others I’ve previously mentioned, the value, comfort, and efficiency of the Narita Express makes this the best choice for Tokyo-​Narita transfers. They have a deal that can’t be beat for foreign passport holders: it’s only Y1500 ($ 14 US) from NRT to Tokyo or Yokohama. I do also believe they have some deal with SUICA as well, but not too sure on the specifics since I fly out of Haneda back to Honolulu. I only, now, solely depend on my transportation from Narita to Tokyo from Narita Express!

Took the train on a Sunday morning from airport terminal 2 to tokyo station in what the call the green car. At home we call it first class. All seats on this train are reserved, the nice part is when you get to track it tells you exactly where to wait based on your car number and then you have your seats. The car was extremely clean and the seats were comfortable, it took 80 minutes from airport to tokyo and it was pleasant, they even come through with a cart where you can buy snacks. It costs 3,110 yen about $ 32 USD but if you have a JR pass it’s included. Not sure small extra cost for green car but in a 7 day pass it was $ 92 extra and for 7 days the difference is small.

Basically like a plane on the ground. Very comfortable to ride with reclining seats. Big comfy ones. Very smooth ride and they serve food and drinks, almost like on an airplane. It’s a pricy way to get to and fro Narita Airport (about 3,390 yen/​adult) but it’s worth it.

I remember when we used to take a bus from our Tokyo hotel to Narita airport.
It took like 5 hours. Well… it felt like that when you’re a lil mofo traveling with your fam.
Now, its a quick, clean, modern, organized ride in a train.
I heart Japan.

We knew nothing about getting transport from Narita airport to Tokyo. We did not know how far it was from the city center or what our options were. I just assumed that Tokyo was just as sophisticated at New York City and the subway somehow connected to the airport. I was wrong for the most part about everything… my husband and I basically split the trip in two between Japan and Korea. He took care of the Japan part, so I did not double check or find anything ahead of time.
While we did spend a small fortune on the JR Rail Passes for foreigners, we just assumed that a JR train would connect… WRONG.
So we stumbled off of a 14 hour flight with one hour of sleep and walked around to multiple counters. Eventually, someone asked if we had a passport and told us the best deal is the Narita Express Train. Yes, please! This train was only $ 15/​person with foreign passport and was an awesome ride through the suburbs into Tokyo center.
We quickly transferred from there to a JR Line at Shinjuku station and on to Koenji.
I should have done my homework ahead of time before coming to Japan… but, this was a very pleasant and convenient surprise! Unlike other countries; in Japan, you will rarely get hustled.

The most comfortable way to ride to Tokyo /​Shinjuku Station which doesn’t cost as much as your airfare or require an out of station transfer — unwise if you’re visiting for the first time and 日本語できない /​don’t speak much/​any Japanese.
Also for visitors you can get a NEX+Suica combo which means you have a reloadable card that you can use in Japan for normal day to day public transport, food expenses, groceries, and easy access to vending machines (to fulfill your otaku used panty hentai needs.)

Best way to connect into Tokyo from the airport. It’s fast and not that much more expensive than other trains or the limo bus. The staff at the airport counter is friendly and speaks English.
Direct service to Tokyo, Shibuya and Shinjuku stations. It’s clean and they even provide food and beverage service on the train.
If you show your foreign passport, you even get the trip into the city for $ 15 instead of $ 31, who can beat that?

If you’re headed into central Tokyo, don’t bother with any other form of transportation — Narita Express (N’Ex for those hip to the abbrevs.) is the only way to go.
Still not convinced? Let’s review your options. You could:
A. Take the «limousine bus» with the limousine part of that scenario imaginary, the cost of $ 29 USD, and a travel time of at least 75 minutes if you’re lucky enough not to hit any Tokyo traffic, which you won’t be. Anticipate at least 2 hours of quality bus time.
B. Take a taxi, whose perks are identical to option A except it’s smaller and more expensive. (Think $ 200. No joke.)
C. Walk. It’ll only take about 15 hours.
D. Take the high speed N’Ex that costs $ 30, only makes 3 stops between Narita and Shinjuku, and takes 75 minutes. Always.
E. None of the above. You made it to Japan’s Narita Airport, why go all the way in to Tokyo when you can just stay here?

Narita Express is the best option getting into Tokyo from Narita airport.
Getting from Narita to Tokyo Station only takes 53 minutes! Way better than the 1.5 hour bus ride suggestion from Google Maps.
The station is extremely convenient, right below the airport terminal, so rain or shine, you stay dry and signs are everywhere to get you there. The trains are new and on high speed rail so traffic congestion to/​from the city is of no concern.
Besides Tokyo Station, the N’EX also goes to Yokohama and Shinjuku all the way out to Ofuna. Very few stops, so that saves time.
Snacks and drinks are sold on board via lady and a push cart. I didn’t get anything but people around me got beer and tea.
All the seats are by reservation so there’s no fighting for seats or having to go from car to car to find open seating.
The seats are pretty comfortable — more legroom than the tourist coach buses. Ample overhead baggage space as well as luggage space at the ends of each train cars.
There’s a moving map showing where the train is, so you can plan whether you really want to use the lavatory or buy that second can of beverage before you have to get off the train.
The one annoying thing was the announcements telling everyone to prepare to get off the train. They start announcing this 10 – 15 minutes before we actually have to get off and so for about 10 – 15 minutes all the passengers were jammed up by the doors, surfing and keeping balance with luggage and all trying not to fall down. As we got into the city, we connected through and bypassed many local train stations which were a complete tease getting our hopes up every time the train slowed down and then accelerated again towards the next local station.
Be sure to have something to entertain yourself in the hour or so because the tv monitors shows the same 5 ads over and over again. Others around me had cellular /​internet access or books. I just closed my eyes intermittently.
Just be aware that Sunday nights the trains are an hour apart. It was very kind of the staff to hurry and get us on board when we headed to the ticket counter with fewer than 5 minutes from departure.
For 1500 yen per person, it was an excellent value.
I definitely recommend this transportation option over bus or taxi or other train routes getting into the city.
