When our first choice café was closed upon our arrival, Sansakizaka Café provided refuge from the intense heat of summer in Tokyo. As soon as we sat down we were met with much-needed glasses of iced water. To further cool us off we ordered a couple of cold teas and took advantage of time to work on our laptops. Since we hadn’t had lunch yet, we didn’t get to sample any of the cakes of the week(find their selection announced on the chalkboard). You should not make the same mistake. Free wifi is not exactly plentiful or easy to find in Tokyo so we were quite pleased to find it here. In terms of atmosphere, old timey jazz was playing during our stay in this tiny café. The other patrons included a pair of older ladies, a guy on his own and a couple that might have been tourists smoking at the table outside. If you’re looking for a relatively quiet, calm spot to chill in Yanesen(the collective name for the Yanaka, Nezu and Sendagi neighborhoods), Sansakizaka Café fits the bill.
