This place was a true disappointment for us — maybe we were expecting too much. I am adding one more star to the initial one-star rating because Raoul and his team are really super extra-nice. But I guess even the perfect staff cannot compensate for truly terrible amenities. First, this review is for the guest house — not the main building which, from what we’ve understood, is pretty good — even great considering the price. We were sent to the guest house because the main building was full. We paid a very small amount(5,000 yens per night) for a private room for two with a Western-style bed, a little smaller than a Queen. The amenities were in line with the price: the room was correct but the rest of the place was a damn dump, mark my words. The private rooms in the guest house are basically in an apartment where you share the bathroom and the kitchen with others. When we arrived, there were posters everywhere telling the current guests(unfortunately, long-term guests, this explains that) to clean if they wanted to keep cockroaches away. Judging by the kitchen, nobody ever cleaned anything. We never cooked during our one-week stay, because we just could not bring ourselves to eat anything made in this kitchen. The bathroom — imagine what your bathroom would look like if you stayed a year without cleaning it. There, you have it. I felt dirtier after going there. I used the toilets at subway stations not to have to go at the guest house, too. Finally, the noise. The other guests are here long-term, and they make themselves perfectly at home — and I mean that not in a good way. Bring some earplugs, and exhaust yourself from a long touristy day in Tokyo if you want to be able to sleep. Even I could not sleep and I sleep everywhere in every possible conditions. But at the guest house, you can hear everything pretty damn well. Only good thing is that we were able to take the breakfast every day at the main building. If you cannot make a reservation at the main building, just do not come here.
