Meiji Jingu Stadium

One of the things we wanted to do while on a trip to Tokyo was go to a professional baseball game. Luckily, our visit coincided with a match between the Swallows and Giants. I must say that the stadium was fairly easy to navigate and the concession lines were fairly short. One of the highlights were the beer gals that came down the stairs and pumped your pint straight from a keg-​like apparatus strapped to their backs. I did feel bad about their knees, as they knelt down to do this. Overall, the atmosphere was really cool and watching the rally umbrellas was a hoot. On top of that, you get to eat your hot dog with chopsticks! On the downside, the ladies toilets are all squatters, so beware!

Great atmosphere. As a North American, the excitement beats any regular season baseball game in the MLB. Even if you don’t like baseball.

Les Expos sort disparu de ma vie et il me manqué.

Le Baseball est le Sport national du Japon avec le Sumo.
C’est quelque chose: les fans sont bruyant, ils chantent des chansons qui change en fonction du joueur au bâton, réponde aux partisans de l’autre équipe, agitent des immenses drapeaux …
Je dois dire que la seul chose qui peu se rapproché de l’expérience dans un stade de baseball japonais est l’ambiance de la Première League dans des endroit comme Palace ou Everton… mais le tous dans l’ordre et sans bagarre. On est au Japon quand même.
Petit conseille apporter un parapluie car je vous jure que ça prend vraiment une averse solide pour qu’il suspende la partie. Moi j’ai pris une douche gratuite ! :-)
Au grand étonnement des fans qui m’entourais je riais fréquemment. C’était difficile de né pas rire quand le cri d’encouragement des Tokyo Yakult Swallows est Go Swallow Go quand on est habitué au Go Habs Go, :-)
Même si mon équipe les Hiroshima Carp, qui on grosse base de fan à Tokyo, ont perdu 4 – 0 j’y retournerais quand même demain s’il pouvais arrêter de pleuvoir un peu :-) !!!
À oui j’allais oublié les vendeuses de bière (5 $), coke (4,50 $) et crème glacé (5 $) sont tellement «Kawaï» que si on avait appliqué la même recette avec la touché montréalaise au stade … et bien le stade aurais été toujours plein même si on était dernier, on en aurait vendu en tabarnac de la bière, les Expos serait encore à Montréal et Elvis Gratton pourrait écouter des games des Expos avec son téléphone intelligent sur la plage de Santa-​Banana.

Japanese baseball is a unique and one of a kind experience. If you ever have visited a major league game in the states, a Japanese game is a must visit. In Tokyo, there are two professional teams — Yomiuri Giants and the Yakult Swallows. The Giants were away, but we were fortunate enough to get to visit the Yakult Swallow play in Jingu Stadium. Save your money and go to the cheap seats… the experience is even better with the crowd participation.
As you walk towards Jingu Stadium, there will be many vendors selling food (edamame, yaki soba, rice balls, bento boxes, etc.) and drinks (beer — Sapporo, Kirin, Asahi). Many will be purchasing them — recommend you do the same. YES, you can bring them into the stadium because the food and drinks are a bit more costly in the stadium. Although there is a service that is not available in the states — beer guys sell bier (cans that they pour into a cup), but in Jingu Stadium, there are beer girls. Cute young ladies that carry a small keg on their back and fill cups with beer.
When you enter the stadium, stop by one of the booths that sell noise makers (small plastic bats to hit), hats, t-​shirts, etc. During the game, audience participation is mandated, especially in the «cheap seats.» You don’t know what the audience/​crowd is saying, but just follow the crowd and have fun. Before eat batter assumes the hitter’s box, there is an elaborate ritual for both the batter and crowd. HOME RUN? The crowd goes wild! 7^th inning stretch? Each team has a fight song and choreographed audience participation part… and YES, they all participate.
The baseball is exciting — crisp, precise baseball; the audience/​crowd participation and show? Unprecedented and exciting. For those that love the game of baseball, you will not be disappointed to go to a BASU BORU game.

I wanted to go to baseball game in Japan so my sister and I decided to see a Swallows game since it was close to where we were staying in Shibuya. We got off at the Gaiemmae stop and went to gate 16 – 18 where we bought some unreserved outfield seats for 1600 yen. The whole outfield had seats that we could pick from and coming half an hour early to the game we had no problem finding nice seats. The game was a lot of fun and the Swallows fans were very enthusiastic. They had a chant for each player and when a player hit a home run they would wave Swallows umbrellas up and down.
I’m a fan of baseball, but even if you’re not, I think you would still have fun at the game! Unlike in the states, you are able to bring in your own drinks (even alcohol) and food. Plus, the food inside the stadium is reasonably priced. This was the only Japanese park that I went to, but I would still highly recommend it!
