Last weekend we went there for a birthday dinner, and before going, I thought the whole fishing-for-yourself was too much of a gimmick. When I was a child, I went fishing once, and didn’t catch a fish all day and was so bored, so that experience didn’t help going in either. In a way, it is gimmicky. There are plenty of sea breams, so it would be hard not to catch something if you fish long enough. Even I caught something! They had other, more expensive fish too, such as lobster. After you catch the fish, you tell the staff how you want it prepared(sashimi, sushi, grilled, etc.). When we went back to our table we were surprised how fast(and beautiful) it was! Everything was so delicious too. I recommend going with a big group so you able to catch a lot of fish and have them prepared a variety of ways. I recommend this restaurant not just for the gimmick, but I thought the food was genuinely tasty. It can be quite expensive, and if you catch something, you have to order it. It also seems a little cruel to keep trying to catch the fish in a small tank they can’t escape from(I’m hardly the animal rights activist, though). I recommend it!

Catching your own fish with shrimp bait? why not? The most popular fish they have is the sea bream. Then you can ask them to make it into sashimi or fry it. You can choose from two different fishing hooks, one with a single hook(for the sea bream) and the four hook one for the bottom fish like the flounder. I got one of each and failed. You’ll also be amused and puzzled by the engrish everywhere. No dibing. No poisute. They have a variety of fish. Since the fish are very smart and have eaten the bait of other fools to be full, I gave up and used the net to catch a snapper. Snapper is best sashimied. We also ordered a bunch of other dishes such as a bacon salad with a crispy cracker to break on top, ochasuke, and more. I had to get my umeshu on as well. Very friendly staff and they were able to accommodate our group of 12 and I didn’t have to inhale second hand smoke. It was a good day.
