Coming from the US, it’s pretty hard to find a good Vietnamese restaurant in Tokyo. I’ve found quite a few places but a lot of them change the flavors slightly to accommodate the Japanese taste. However, My Le does it right. It’s not a large place and it’s kind of isolated near Kamata Station. However, the food is authentic and it tastes great! The secret must be out because it almost always requires a reservation, even on some weeknights. If you want to go on a Friday or Saturday, you will have to make reservations several weeks out. They only open for dinner starting at around 5:00PM so lunch is not an option. Plus one of the owners speaks English well so don’t let that deter you. The ambience is somewhat trendy with odd wall decorations but it only adds to the atmosphere. For the food, they have great Vietnamese options ranging from banh cuon, bun(vermicelli), phở, hu tieu(tapioca noodles), and even banh mi(Vietnamese sandwiches) which are my favorite. If you’ve been to Vietnamese places in the states or in Vietnam itself, you probably remember that the food is usually very cheap. However, since you are in Japan and food like this is a rarity, expect to pay a little more than you may be used to.
