Rō-dō Shenchenmantō Minamimori-chō

Originally I was going to give this place a 4 star but I’m in Japan. This is like the most authentic it will get so no complaining, but if you wanna know what I think, very close to authentic but not exactly.
All workers are from China I believe but it’s still made to suit Japanese people’s tastebuds. The main thing to get here is the shengjianbao (生煎包). To me it’s pretty pricey since it costs like 1.5USD for like 8 in China and 2USD for 4 in NYC. The outside is a bit tooooo hard for my liking. I also got the boiled dumplings. Skip that. You’re not missing anything except for when there are sales in the frozen section of a supermarket but you didn’t know about it. You’re better off with that. I mean it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t anything special either. Kind of lacking in the meat flavor but then again I believe it’s because the Japanese don’t like food that are too oily or salty. I also got the zhajiangmian. It was good but again, wasn’t authentic imo but it’s because I was expecting too much. Don’t mind me.
Only negative thing I had to say is that the cashier lady should be more friendly. She looked like we were bothering her. The other workers were all smiley when they gave me my dishes. Oh and this place is clean, which means it’s not authentic according to China standards. Haha I kid.
Btw these are not baked, they’re actually pan fried hence 焼き and 生煎.

Absolutely amazing baked Shanghai Dumplings!
Not only that, but the rest of the menu is great and you can enjoy it all in this comfortable little restaurant. Btw, did I mention the baked dumplings? You seriously should just order the pile of ten because if you don’t, you’ll be busting out that 500 yen coin to get more after you are done.
Drop by and try out this place, or walk up to the take out window on your way home. You will not regret it!
