I got the urge for a little taste of home while on Tokyo business assignment, and went to Frijoles for a carry out burrito. The staff were friendly, the«assembly line» worked efficiently as my burrito was put together, and the sticker shock at the end was similar to what other reviewers described. It’s Tokyo: you pay a premium for TexMex, but at least you can get it if you have a craving! I had asked for only a little rice as the team put it together, so I guess I experienced a better balance between rice and chicken in the filling than some other reviewers. The burrito tasted very good and really hit the spot, but I agree the temperature could have been hotter — although fully wrapped in foil, it was cold when I ate it less than 5 minutes later. The guacamole I had added for an extra charge was very creamy and satisfying. All in all, a friendly place making a decent but pricey burrito that you do not have to wait for, but please make it warmer!

It is hard to find a good dinner salad in Tokyo, especially if you want to fully control what goes in and what doesn’t go in. If you are going there looking for it to be Chipotle, get over it – it’s not. If you don’t like the price, get over it – it’s Tokyo. Considering that most restaurants in this town look at you like you have 3 heads when you ask for the slightest variation from the standard fair, they were perfectly accommodating. So I plan to make this one of my dinner haunts while here on business.

Coming from LA, I know my tacos. I ordered tacos here and it came with three large flour tortillas. I asked for corn tortillas and the server said they only do soft tortillas(they think soft means flour and hard means corn). They didn’t have soft corn tortillas… too disappointing. The ingredients were fresh though.

So what if it’s just a Chipotle«knock off»? It’s actually better than any Chipotle in the US in terms of taste/quality, but with a Tokyo premium. The process of selecting your burrito, toppings, paying at the end and grabbing your drink may be nearly the same, but it’s just a bit smoother, as well as cleaner, than back at the Mother Ship. By the time you throw in a little extra service quality, with someone actually paying attention to you as you migrate through the queue, you should forget about the Tokyo Premium compared with the attitude you get back in, say, suburban Chicago, from someone who doesn’t like his job. The«folks» at Frijoles appear to be good people who enjoy working here — and they actually speak pretty good English. This must amount to an extra plus for some of my Gaijin friends who refuse or are unable to learn Japanese. If you want to complain about the fact it’s a Chipotle«knock off», go ahead. But I’ll only agree on one point: That tip jar at the end of the queue scares the«beejaysus» out of me precisely because it reminds me so much of Chipotle back home — as well as the dirty, rotten and obligatory«tipping» culture that is highly expected back at the Mother Ship. Grateful to have my own little Chipotle around the corner that is world class in terms of its«space» in the market.

This place is basically almost same as Chipotle in the USA. The way they serve, drinks, and how they extra charge you for avocado. Exactly same. The food itself is great but it is just way too expensive. Although I appreciate the fact that I can now try decent burritos in Tokyo, I wouldn’t pay 2,000 yen(with a drink) for just burritos again. It is worth trying though if you haven’t been there.

–FRIJOLES, FRIJOLES, FRIJOLES… The«Wanna-Be» CHIPOTLE of the East! I must admit, my taste-buds were really excited until you sent them home with BLUE-BALLS! –The SALADWRAPS… cough…cough…I mean Burritos are what you would expect from a «Wanna-Be» CHIPOTLE joint. Don’t expect a CHIPOTLE burrito, but do expect a FRIJOLES Burrito. Basically the process is the same as CHIPOTLE, but the end result is a COLDSOGGYBURRITO overly wrapped in foil(I don’t know why, if the the burrito is cold), stuffed with rice and lettuce, showered with the salsa of your choice, a little sour cream, a couple sprinkles of confetti sized cheese and a FEWSCRAPS of MEAT. You can add a pinch of guacamole for an extra charge. –FRIJOLES is definitely not the worst burrito I’ve had in Tokyo and most certainly not the best. Go ahead and give it a try if you’re really craving a burrito and if you’re nearby.
