I’ve been studying abroad in Japan and was absolutely desperate for some Mexican food. And this place absolutely hit the spot. I actually rode on the train an hour each way to eat here. Definitely worth it. The food was amazing, and the restaurant is cute and casual. The outside looks a little like a hole in the wall, but you’ll believe me about how good it is when you catch a whiff. I had the cheese burrito(picture), chips and salsa, and a mango margarita. Everything was absolutely delicious

Coming from San Diego I didn’t think it would be hard to find a place to get some good Mexican food, but boy was I wrong. That is until I found Junkadelic in Kamimeguro. It’s a bit of a trek to get there but it is well worth the train ride. I ordered the carnitas burrito and it was exactly like the picture and tasted great, the menu has all the popular Mexican dishes so there is something for everyone, if you’re ever in the mood for Mexican Junkadelic is your place.

I grew up in Texas and for me, there is no comfort food like good Mexican food. This place(in my current neighborhood in Tokyo), is better than ANY of the places I eat in West Texas when I visit my family. The tortillas are homemade. Their guacamole is fresh. Their tacos and cheese enchiladas are the real deal. My husband vouches for the fajitas and burritos.

Coming from California, I’m used to being able to find excellent Mexican food easily. Unfortunately, Japan has left a hole in my heart previously occupied by Mexican food. Well one day after working out and building up a healthy appetite, I knew I needed Mexican food. It didn’t help that one of my friends had sent me a picture of a delicious burrito he was consuming back in the states. So I launched Unilocal!on my iPhone and went to work. I found Junkadelic, and knew I had to go. So I got off the train at Naka-Meguro and began by journey. It was rainy and dark, but I persevered, trudging along the alley. Just as I was losing hope, I saw the faint glow of a sign. As I approached, I saw a J.” Hallelujah, I found it. I ordered a fish taco and a burrito(I said I was hungry), and doused them in Habenero sauce. The fish taco was amazing, best taco I’ve had so far in Japan. Just like the ones I had in California. The burrito, which came with refried beans and Mexican rice, was also very good. I love wet burritos, and this definitely fit the bill. It wasn’t the best I’ve had in Japan(that would go to Cactus), but it certainly was very good. The only real knock I have on this place is its requirement that you must buy a drink. It’s a weird requirement, and most people who go here buy one of their excellent import beers or a margarita, but for those that don’t drink, it’s inconvenient and a waste of money to spend 300 – 400 yen on a Pelligrino or something. I didn’t get a chance to try the Margaritas, since I was by myself, and I didn’t want to get a whole pitcher. No worries though, with Mexican food like this, I’ll be back.

Unilocal 100 Challenge 2015 — 35⁄100 Finding really good, semi-authentic Mexican food has always been a challenge in Tokyo. A few of the old standbys have all but closed down, or because of longevity, their menus have become«too Japanese» which results in flavors, quantities and overall presentation of menu items as localized for Japanese tastes but in the process, a huge loss of what makes Mexican cooking attractive in the first place. Junkadelic was recommended by fellow Unilocalers as a great place to hold a UYE, so we decided to descend upon the place shortly after the official launch of Unilocal in Yokohama(March 2015). Short story: + Atmosphere: 5⁄5 stars(urban rad street art, dark, kinda divey in the cool sort of way) + Food & drinks menu: 4+(flavor 5, presentation 4, portions 4; imported and bottled craft beers available 4.5) + Location: 3.5(a long ten minute walk from the nearest station — keep checking that GPS map in the Unilocal app to make sure you’re headed in the right direction!) + Service — 4+(YMMV — we had a friendly and beautiful waitress tonight!) Long story: How to please a bunch of hungry, finicky Unilocalers, some of whom had been here before? By serving up the same high level of service, food and drink while keeping the level of rowdiness in check, that’s how. Actually, we weren’t «that» rowdy… until the second round of craft beers came by.(JK) We each started with various appetizers — the intention was to share among us but you know, guys don’t share among each other very well, so it was enjoy what you ordered. Actually, the presentation of some items prevented sharing in a democratic and graceful way. We did, however, all dig in and enjoy a huge plate of nachos which was excellent — covered with lots of REAL cheese, guacamole, sour cream, jalepeno peppers — the works. Entrees were back to individual orders and for me, the enchilada was great. Lots of good stuff inside and nice complimentary rice and veggies on the side. Funny how being away from real Tex-mex or Cal-mex food makes anything here that gets 75% or higher in resemblance five stars. Hey, beggars can’t be choosey, and Junkadelic delivers. We were too full for dessert so we finished off our craft beers and headed out. Of course, mental notes for Unilocal Reviews and promises to return were made. Definitely a place I’d love to visit again and again.

Tucked in quiet residential side of Nakameguro/Yutenji. It appeared like a Mexican promise land after walking through dark street for 10min. Atmosphere/décor/vibe of this restaurant are all up to Mexican standard or quintessential at least. This very laid back atmosphere not only Mexican but also reminded me some hippy/collegey town like Ithaca NY/Amherst MA. It’s perfectly good place to come with your friends after hard days work. Drink menu was pretty much what I expected. As long as Tecate gets in the list, I call it «Good Mexican».(I’m kinda noob on Mexican stuff) Food menu covers everything I can think of from Mexican restaurants in the states. They even had fish taco that can make Californian feel nostalgic. I had beef chimichanga. I liked the chewyness of the wrap and cheese as well as tender beef. I definitely need to come back here to conquer all the food items here.

Killer margaritas! I recommend the blue ones! Decent mexican food in the Tokyo area. Fair prices but the portions are small ish so I tend to spend more money ordering lots of different things. The restaurant is small with an authentic mexican atmosphere but fills up quickly so I would recommend making reservations especially on the weekend. Also if you’re not familiar with the area it can be a bit tricky to find.

After a year or so living in Tokyo, I reached a point where I could no longer continue a lifestyle without good Mexican food. I searched far and wide for Mexican restaurants, but only found places with vague Mexican connections. A friend from my school found Junkadelic, and told me I absolutely had to try it. Soon after, I was on my way to Meguro with a group of friends, splashing around in a rainstorm, trying to find the restaurant. It was a little tough to locate, but once we got there, we were immediately excited and relieved. The ambiance was a lot like a Mexican restaurant in my home of California, USA(home of the best Mexican food outside of Mexico). I had a good feeling about it. The menu looked so good that I had no choice but to order two entrees. The burrito I had gave me a whole new perspective on Tokyo. I thought, «Finally. I can stay here forever now.» I was totally satisfied with the food. I paid a good price for it, but it was totally worth the cost. The restaurant itself is a little shabby, but they make up for it with great food. It was an absolute game-changer for me, and I have recommended it to friends ever since.

I thought I was at a HOLE-IN-THE-WALL restaurant in Mexico until I heard the infamous IRASHAIMASE and the Japanese cooks blurting out something in the most fucked up Spanish I’ve ever heard in my life… ahahaha I think I heard some like CHINGA-TU-MADRE!!! ahaha but anyways, the atmosphere and Interior Décor. at JUNKADELIC is great, as well as, the menu. Some of the food is a hit or miss but overall its good. Great place to bring a date, a friend, or a group! Its a bit far from the Station but definitely worth the walk. Personally I think its a bit overpriced for the amount of food you receive but anyhow you’re paying for an experience right? I definitely recommend this place!
