Yesterday I went to this museum with my husband to view the art works of Whistler. I’ve won the lottery of the local free paper and got a pair of tickets. I wore Kimono by myself, which took me approx. two hours! Only changing clothes took two hours! I was soooooooo clumsy and was confused how to fasten Obi or a sash. We entered the museum at four. It closes at five, so we watched the art works in a hurry. With the ticket you will see the other planned art works on the fourth floor, so it is recommended to go in the museum at latest half past three. As for the exhibition of Whistler, it was awesome! I have never known him. It has been twenty years since the art exhibition of Whistler was held. He spent his life in London and kept company with painters of impressionist in Paris. Many oil paintings, water-color paintings, printings or works influenced by Ukiyoe wood block printings were displayed here. I was totally enchanted by his unique and characteristic art works. In addition I was glad to see the works in fusion with Japanese things, such as ceramic wares, a round paper folding fan called Uchiwa, or Kimono. This exhibition is until November 16, 2014. Admission fee is 1500 yen for adult. When we went upstairs, we saw from a large glass window a rickshaw running in front of the street. It was a very Kyoto-like tasteful sight. On the fourth floor before the entrance there was a lobby where a long bench was placed. You can take a rest here with reading the art collection books. On this floor oil paintings or scriptures of domestic or overseas various famous painters were displayed. We enjoyed watching the masterpieces of Monet, Chagall, Renoir, K. F. and R. U.(both Japanese) and the like to our hearts content.

I visited there during the exhibition«Future Beauty: The Tradition of Reinvention in Japanese Fashion.» It was super cool one. although I’m not a fashion person, I could enjoy that. Honestly I couldn’t understand the art though lol There were many cool clothes made by Issey Miyake, Kenzo Takeda, Hanae Mori, Rei Kawakubo, Yoji Yamamoto, and the others. If I had gotten into their fashion, I could have enjoyed more… The art gallery are holding around ten exhibitions every year and you can get details at the website. If you are interested in, just check it out! At the exhibition, the English explanation could be available. There are some places to go nearby, which is Kyoto Zoo, Heian Jinguu Shrine, Kyoto University, Okazaki park, and some lovely cafés.
