This is my lifeline when I visit Kyoto as I more or less eat my lunch here. Great ambience with pleasant music in the background. Great food at cheap prices. Each day there is a Japanese meal and 3 or 4 standard Indian curries. I recommend the Japanese food as you get to know how delicious Japanese vegan food can be, especially when you are visiting from abroad. I would definitely recommend going here. More than the food, the host adds a lively touch and charm to the place. Having food here is like eating at my grandmother’s place with nice atmosphere and company.

There are very very very few purely vegetarian options in Kyoto. And the few that exist are of varying quality. This is the best one. And it would stand its own in any major city. The menu is small and a mixture of Indian and Japanese items. There is a sweet diminutive Japanese woman named Sujata(yes, she is Japanese with an Indian name!) who does everything here. The samosa were exceptional. Baked I think and light as air. And the ramen is purely vegetarian!!! They also have a few rotating curries and a Japanese set lunch — again all vegetarian. Sujata studied with the Indian Master Sri Chinmoy and his paintings adorn the place. They also have free meditation classes there but the vibe is unforced and quite pure. It’s a tiny bit out of the way but if you’re near Kyoto University, it’s just across the street on the north side. Tel: 075−721−0789
