The kids were craving«American» food and asked for pizza. This place was near by and ended up being a great choice. They have a full menu and daily specials. Pizza is just part of their menu. The staff spoke perfect English and were very friendly and nice to talk with. From all of our walking today, the kids were starving. Luckily are food came quick. We had two ten inch pizzas: one a margherita and one a marinara. Both were excellent with good dough and sauce. The kids were still hungry after this so we ordered a third pizza. They had a full drink menu but I passed on beer or wine. The kids though went for a Shirley Temple. Prices were reasonable. Slightly more expensive than pizza back home, but worth it for the quality of the food. After leaving, I stopped to get a photo of my kids in front of the place and the owner came out and offered to take a picture of all of us. Nice people and good, fresh food. Try it out if you haven’t already.

Don’t believe what you read in the other reviews — this place is even better. We stopped by — a family of 4 — around 7pm and were told they were booked, but we should come back around 8pm. We arrived back an hour later, but the owner apologized for the«slow eaters». He was a hoot. He invited us in and re-arranged chairs so we could all sit, and then bought us all a round of drinks as he was telling us about his trips to the US to ski. After about 20 minutes, he showed up with a plate of fried and onion rings and apologized again. We didn’t care about the wait — even the kids were having fun. Oh the food — yeah, it was good. The pizza are 10″, so about one per person. It’s a thin crust, but doughy instead of crisp — I loved it. My 9yo ordered some crazy spaghetti dish — it was chunks of ham, bell peppers and served on a sizzling fajitas plate wth a fried egg. The owner tried to explain — something about being made with ketchup. It was good, but definitely not traditional spaghetti. The food was perfect after a long day, but the atmosphere is what made the place. Everyone spoke English and everyone was super nice — the owner, a waiter who was helping other tables and even the pizza maker stopped by to chat. We’re only here for 3 days, but I can see us going back since it’s so close and tasty.

A short 8 minute walk from Shijo station off the Karasuma line you will find fun and funky pizza joint by the name of Goichi Pizza. After reading many of the reviews online I venture out from my flat so that I may indulge my cravings for pizza that have been building over the past couple weeks. I went with the Taco Pizza as I have not seen any Mexican food options besides Taco Bell since my arrival. I recommend folding the slice and eating it like a taco! I also ordered the onion rings that were cooked to perfection. Just the right amount of batter to onion ratio that was deep fried to a level that took me close to nirvana. I was greeted by the owner who spoke English and whom taught me a few new words in Japanese. The service was attentive and fast. I will definitely be stopping back next time I roll through Kyoto!

Went to Goichi yesterday partially to get out of the rain but primarily because I’ve always wanted to try it. Walked in and asked for the English menu, they have one English speakers! Sat down at the bar and chatted with the owner and staff most of whom speak pretty good English. The owner, who prepped the pizza and cooked it quickly in the brick oven has traveled throughout the USA has met Shawn White and cooks a mean Mexican Pizza which he recommended as his creation. Now I’m from Souther California and this pizza has a very true to form taste of a taco(pizza). Onion rings were great and the GF loved the Uni pasta. For those traveling, it’s not as cheap as Pizza Hut but it’s more than worth it. Best pizza I’ve had in Kyoto so far. Plus there’s more dishes to try. Go check em out!

We were a bit hesitant to use one of our meals in Kyoto on food that wasn’t traditionally Japanese. That hesitation vanished once we were seated by our host, a funny, friendly guy who made us feel quite welcome. We split the margherita pizza and chicken teriyaki pizza. Each was an individual-sized, 10″/11″ pizza. Not sure which was better — we still disagree on that matter — but it’s suffice to say they were both great. The crust was thin and slightly doughy. The sauce on the margherita was subtly sweet and the buffalo mozzarella was perfectly delicious. The second pizza was covered in tender bits of chicken and drizzled in a mouthwatering sweet teriyaki sauce. If you need a momentary break from Japanese fare, try this place. They do take-out too. We will always remember Goichi Pizza as the Japanese-owned Italian restaurant with Spanish music playing in the background and Danish beer on tap. And — most importantly — delicious pizza.
