Paiyama is short for«Oppaiyama» = Oppai(tits) + Yama(Mountains). This spot has been quite around for decades and have been serving as rendezvous point for both young and old(but mostly young). At night, there are some street performers as well. It’s been around for long time and taste of music may have changed through decades. But it’s a sanctuary for Kobe people.

Wow I miss this place. I used to sit here on any night(week nights included) for FULLOUT entertainment. What is it you ask? A concrete park with these volcano shaped mounds. The art is peculiar but because of its location, it’s become one of THE spots. Is it a tourist location? Absolutely not. But if you live here, The place is perfect for meeting friends and people watching. On an awkward date? Go here so you have things to talk about. Many artists come out and set up camp for the night. Sometimes they are great, sometimes you question their sanity ;) It’s right next to the sannomiya station so it’s so convenient. Also, it is splits right into a street of fast food areas, bars, karaōke spots, Internet cafes, flower shops, and Kobe beef restaurants. It’s literally the heart of Kobe! A twenty minute walk north up the hills and you’ll find yourself in dainty kitano. Just twenty minutes walk south and you’ll find yourself in Harborland. Not sure if this is true, but I was told paiyama means boob mountain. I thought that was hilarious.
