In one of the oldest districts of Tokyo is the area around Jujo Station.(柔所駅). Near the theater and trains station is Taya(田や), a charming izakaya. I visited here with some workmates from Teikyo University Hospital. As is typical with most Japanese watering holes, you’d never know it was there from the street unless you can read Japanese or were looking for it(luckily I can!). Use the photos below for reference! The izakaya is pretty typical of the area: working-class in style, with tatami mat floors and old wall hangings. You can rent the 2nd floor out for banquets, which has a tabehodai/nomihodai(all you can eat/drink) offering. The food was all excellent and reasonably priced. Their alcohol selection was extensive. The ambience was charming — felt like I was eating at a friend’s house! I definitely recommend this place, if you can find it!
