The closeness is one of the best aspects of this spot. Not only that, but it is a real onsen, so it gets its water from a deep hot spring!
The place is clean and big enough to be consistently comfortable even when full of people.
The inside and outside onsen are lovely and have many options.
Apart from the onsen, the food is good and the massage options are good as well. They also keep a bunch of fresh local food stocked so you can take something home to cook.
The only reason I didn’t give this place a five is because it isn’t trying to be a five. It isn’t fanciful and it doesn’t go overboard. Maybe some would consider this a good thing worthy of the extra star, but if you’ve been to the really amazing onsen japan has to offer, you’ll feel why this is a 4.
