These are the things that come to mind when I recollect our time at this global landmark hotel.
Perched atop a prestigious Nihonbashi office tower in the Marunouchi business district, the lobby «begins» on the 37^th floor. Some of the most breathtaking vistas of Tokyo’s urban landscape (to include the venerable «Fuji San» on clear days) are lensed within the «living tree» design concept of the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo.
The entire service staff from bellhop to Mâitre D are so overwhelmingly competent and helpful that even among Japan’s stringent service norms; this is excellence without peer.
One should understand the significance that English assistance is available within the hotel (Japan is an immensely proud and introspective nation whose own language is revered, often to the exclusion of others).
Rooms are a master class in temperance, beautiful solemnity, and Japanese sensibility. The soaking tub is an absolute must. Similarly, the shower was a modern phenom: the first drop from the rain shower head is at precisely the temperature registered on the digital scale. The famous fixtures provided by the Toto corporation are similarly the stuff of legend. The bed and linens simply envelop and soothe. There is literally nothing to want.
Because we booked through AMEX Platinum Travel Service, in room breakfast was complimentary (a $ 100 daily value). Do not underestimate how well the Japanese can interpret a Continental Breakfast. The eggs alone received their own description. The yolks are nearly red owing the special diet the chickens receive (think along the lines of the diet fed to Wagyu cattle for Kobe beef). The restaurant dining is so much beyond the pale that to do it justice demands reading the separate reviews for Signature (French), Sense Cantonese), Sushi Sora, and Ventaglio (Mediterranean).
Not that it is worth laboring; room prices start around $ 850 US per night (I am sure clever booking or off peak may render better offers and this is a hotel worth every penny).

This was an exceptional hotel! My friend & I really enjoyed ourselves here! The staff is amazing. Every one was nice but some names that stood out were Yu, Narumi, and Anthony. The spa was lovely and very relaxing. The view is spectacular from the spa and from the room. All of the dining was delicious. The front desk and concierge were very helpful when suggesting places to go and making reservations. If I was in Tokyo I would stay here again.

There is nothing negative to say about this hotel. There’s not even anything neutral to say about it. It’s just all awesome, all the time.
From the moment you check in, the staff is extraordinarily helpful and friendly. After you check in they escort you to your room and show you how everything works. They also ask you what time you’d like your turn-​down service (until this hotel, I didn’t think you had a choice.
The room is beautiful, the bathroom is great. More importantly, the view we had was absolutely incredible. There was basic no reason to even worry about going up in the Tokyo tower. You have as nice a view from the comfort of your room.
They provide you with some delicious teas that you can make in your room, as well as a really nice kimono to wear while you wander around inside. The tub is huge and luxurious, and the shower is really nice as well.
The bar downstairs is amazing, with a similarly amazing view, and has a really cool little couch that’s surrounded by a moat. A moat! We got to have a glass of wine on a tiny bar island! It’s really centrally located, and you don’t even have to go outside in order to get to the metro.
If you’re looking for an amazing place to stay in Tokyo that is conveniently located as well as amazingly service-​orientend hotel, this is the place to stay.

This hotel was an amazing experience. As others have stated, sometimes the hotel is the destination. My friends who stayed here with me and I all have said we would go back to Tokyo just to stay at the hotel again! The front desk staff is very attentive and they remember EVERYTHING. They remembered details about our outings and asked us how things went upon returning. They always made sure a taxi was waiting for us before we got down to the transportation area and they always had great recommendations for us. The concierge worked with my assistant beforehand and they had all of our reservations lined up before we arrived and gave my guest and I an envelope with all the dining reservations with restaurant information, a map with an address (to show the cab driver, required attire, etc. The point is that the staff is one of a kind.
Definitely utilize the complimentary spa time from 6:30 AM — 9 AM. The spa is excellent.
We loved the breakfast at Kshiki also.
The one strange thing about this hotel is that the lobby/​check-​in area is on the 38^th floor (I think) and all the guest rooms are a few floors below that. So, you always have to go from the street level to the 38^th floor, walk through the lobby to another elevator bank, and then go to your floor.
Overall, an epic experience.

If I were to base my opinion of Japan on just the customer service experienced at the Mandarin Tokyo, OMG best country in the world. They literally bend over backwards for you. We in the U.S. can definitely learn a lot from Japanese culture.
–Try the free spa service window from 6:30– 9 am.
–Go to the lounge area your first night. They have live jazz most nights.
–Eat the food at sense and the bar area
–Do use the features of the toilet
–Do take advantage of the pillow options

Drop. Dead. Gorgeous. Hotel is immaculate and very Japanese. Great service, large rooms, amazing views, and food to die for. Breakfast buffet was wonderful and have to say their bakery rivals the best patisseries in my native Montréal.

«Sometimes the hotel itself is the destination» — The No1DP.
For my 29^th birthday part of my present was to stay at the Mandarin Oriental and to dine at one of the Michelin-​starred restaurants, Signature. This review will focus on the hotel as I have covered Signature, the Mandarin Bar, Keshiki and the Spa at Mandarin Oriental in separate reviews.
The Mandarin Oriental is a group of luxury hotels analogous to the InterContinental hotels. It has a reputation of being quite the opulent hotel chain, which is in every way reflected in the room rates. In return the hotel amenities are quite astounding and I’ve experience nothing but impeccable service from each of the hotel staff.
From Tokyo Station it wasn’t that far of a taxi drive. If you can somehow access Mitsukoshimae station (the station to get to the Mitsukoshi in Nihonbashi) the hotel is literally next to the station. The hotel itself occupies the 30^th-​38^th floors of the Nihonbashi Mitsui Tower.
STAFF: The staff literally bend over backwards to ensure that you have a pleasant experience.
— From the moment I got off the taxi to check-​out I never needed to carry my luggage.
— I was given freshly warmed hand towels the moment I arrived.
— During peak hours there is one person solely responsible for pushing the button opening and closing the elevators.
— When I talked to housekeeping on the phone the conversation began immediately in English without me needing to prompt otherwise.
— When a customer accidentally spilled drinks on the No1DP at the Mandarin Bar one of the hotel staff offered to clean the No1DP’s shirt and jacket for free, even though the hotel had nothing to do with the accident. No1DP was very satisfied with the cleaning job as the alcohol left no stain.
ROOM
There are actually two sets of elevators to the Mandarin Oriental — a public elevator that takes guests from the 1^st floor of the Nihonbashi Tower to the 38^th floor where the lobby is located. The second elevator, accessible from the lobby takes guests to the restaurants, spa and hotel rooms. Accessing the floors with rooms requires card key.
The room had a single king bed which was actually a king-​sized mattress and not just two twin mattresses joined together. The two mattresses joined together is actually a pet peeve of the No1DP.
— FREE WI-​FI.
— Impressive view of Tokyo skyscrapers and much of the highlight of the room was this view. Our view contained the bank of Japan, which looks like a yen symbol when viewed from the top.
— Keurig coffee maker.
— Turndown service providing free water and crispy chocolate wafers.
— Yukata serving as a nightrobe.
— Other highlight was the pillow menu. Housekeeping will provide a choice of pillows upon request. The horsehair pillow was quite comfortable.
BATHROOM
— Rainforest showerhead.
— Tub containing two different types of bath salts: juniper and lavender.
— Terry bathrobes also containing soft slippers.
— The small brush provided was pretty durable and I’ve been using it as my travel comb ever since.
— Bidet toilet which warms your bottom upon touch.
— The flush in the toilet is in the same panel as the option for rear and front wash.
No1DP purchased a welcoming package which included salad and a sweet berry cream heart-​shaped cake. The cake was nutty at the bottom with raspberries and blueberries lining the top. Cake was sweet by Japanese standards, which isn’t too sweet for me.
The best perk about the hotel is the complimentary spa services from 7−9am when the spa is open to the public.
Thanks to the No1DP my hotel standards are going higher and as a result this is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in and my preferred hotel in the Tokyo Area. Given the opportunity to try another restaurant and enjoy a spa treatment I’d be back in a heartbeat!

Great food along with great service and would definitely recommend. Did I mention the exceptional view of Tokyo. On a clear days view, you will be able to see Mount Fuji. Those who are familiar with Mandarin Oriental’s reputation know that it come with a price tag.
For the budget conscious, please beware.

If you’re reading this then you’re probably already aware of the reputation of the Mandarin Oriental as being a lavish and wonderful hotel. Even entering with those expectations, my fiancée and I were still astonished at the level of detail and care in every aspect of our stay at this hotel.
From checkin, in a gorgeous lobby with stunning views and the most attentive and courteous stag your can imagine, to checkout everything was tailored for our comfort and happiness.
The rooms are clean, well appointed and have phenomenal views. The room service is fast, well prepared and there is a wide selection available. The restaurants and bars on the property are some of the best in the city (or the world…)
If you’re on the fence, don’t be. Book, relax, and enjoy.

Absolutely amazing hotel and unbelievable views of the city from the lobby, the rooms and the bar.

I love the Mandarin chain of hotels. Every time I have stayed at one of the properties, I have been rewarded with absolutely exceptional service, stunning facilities, and unforgettable experiences. The brand is strong and consistent across the board, and Tokyo is no exception.
This was my first trip to Japan, and though I have limited knowledge of Mandarin Chinese (useful for signs!) I know zero Japanese, so I was a little bit overwhelmed while planning the trip. The Mandarin truly put us at ease:
(1) Before arriving, I sent an email to the concierge to have them help me make restaurant reservations and other bookings. Not a problem. When we checked into the hotel, they provided us with detailed information about our reservations and directions on how to get there.
(2) Checking-​in, we were greeted warmly by reception, who also personally walked us to the room and explained al of the amenities and features of the hotel in general and our room specifically.
(3) The room was incredible. It was spacious with unbelievable views over Tokyo. The bathroom was small, but still had enough space for a separated toilet, a full bath/​jacuzzi, and a shower. The amenities were fantastic – they provide you with hair brushes, head bands to keep the hair out of your face while you wash, toothbrushes & toothpaste, mouthwash, etc. Turn down service was also great. They provide you with a fresh bucket of ice and purified water in your kettle, complementary bottles of water, as well as some chocolates on your nightstand.
(4) The beds were superb. I slept like a baby the first night there, despite the jet lag.
(5) The fitness center was great. Opened 24 hours, I would come down here bright and early in the morning to enjoy a quick morning workout while enjoying the sunrise. Fresh juices and fruits are also provided to you for a rewarding post-​workout snack.
(6) Restaurants and lounge are superb. We ate at the Tapas Molecular bar our first night, which was an incredible experience. The food was fantastic, but more importantly, our chefs had so much personality and truly felt passionate about what they prepared that they made the guests feel truly at ease and have a joyful experience. We also enjoyed afternoon tea here a couple of days, which is an incredible experience as well. The desserts are delectable and the service is exceptional.
(7) Excellent spa facilities and wonderful service. I received the Aromatherapy Associates facial while I was there, and I was absolutely glowing afterwards. I was surprised at how great my skin looked for the next few days! The specialist doing my facial was very professional and kind, and she also gave me a great massage while I was wearing my masks. Facilities are beautiful as well, as are the amenities provided for you. Very expensive though – much more than I would pay in the US, and if you are expecting extractions, it doesn’t seem like this is what they do for facials.
Only downside is location. It was at least 20 – 25 minutes to many of the prime tourist and shopping areas (with the exception of Tsukiji, which is relatively close). However, you’re on the Ginza subway line at Mitsukoshimae Station, which makes it pretty convenient to get to the Sensoji temple at Asakusa station or Shibuya and Harajuku going the other direction. To get to Shinjuku, you can take the JR trains from the Kanda station or take the Ginza metro and switch trains.

Ohhh… seriously…the best service I have ever had at a hotel… and I have stayed at many across the world, including most of them good ones in Tokyo. This one is simply another level. Like the Four Seasons, with another season added in. Simply the best.
