This is definitely one of my favorite local restaurants. It’s cafeteria style eating with an amazingly authentic old Italian atmosphere. I feel like I’m in a scene from the Godfather. The workers are friendly will assist(if you ask) in how to navigate using the restaurant. First thing you should do is establish your table. The foot traffic is heavy there and the tables fill up quickly. You will see placemats, silverware, and bread. Grab those and stick them on a table. Next grab a pitcher and get your water, wine, and glasses. Then return to the line to order your food. There are usually several pasta selections, one or two soup selections, a few meat selections, and some salad and veggies to chose from. When you are done you can come back and grab a desert. It is entirely an honor system there so be mindful of what you are ordering and make sure to make note of how much wine and water you take. It’s so cheap that you will walk out satiated and ready for your stroll through the city.

Very good food! My wife’s favorite so far in all of Italy because she was able to get just meat and vegetables. So much of Italian food is heavy on the carbs and mostly from wheat. She desperately needed a change. I like to ask the locals where to eat. A man who was on duty to answer questions at one of the many churches told us about this place. It’s self service, which can be a bit intimidating, but don’t be afraid to ask for help. The staff is used to it. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Meats are cooked on wood coals. The picture I posted is of a pear soaked in wine sauce. Fabulous! The picture does not do it justice.

Fresh food cooked while you wait. Pasta and soup menu changes daily with several choices. Meat, chicken and fish menu also varies. You select the cut and it is grilled by the chef. Vino di casa is 1 euro/glass and also served. In half and full liters. Prices are LOWLOWLOW. Open Mon-Fri for lunch and dinner, closed weekends. No tourists only locals and savvy visitors. Grab your utensils and placemats, find a table then walk to the counters and order. No check when done just tell the guy on the register what you had. We eat there 1 – 2 times weekly.
