It was sooo romantic! I saw it at sunset.magical. It’s like a small Coliseum, I’m absolutely coming back.

Sin llegar a tener las dimensiones del coliseo de Roma, sorprende en este anfiteatro el estado de conservación. Comparativamente con su homólogo romano se conserva mucho mejor. Aún tiene más mérito cuando este anfiteatro se usa habitualmente para óperas conciertos y algún que otro espectáculo. Dice mucho a su favor.
Si bien es verdad, por su menor tamaño, si visita en menos de dos horas. Depende del tipo de turista que seas, si eres de los de visita rápida posiblemente en media hora lo tengas todo visto. Ahora bien si eres como yo, que te gusta saborear, disfrutar, observar y fotografiar desde mil ángulos distintos, en un par de horas lo tendrás visto.
Pequeño, encantador, y muy bien conservado. Si estás en Verona, es de visita obligatoria.

Wir haben im Internet Karten für Rigoletto bestellt. Es ist ein Traum! Wenn man schon in Verona ist, muss man unbedingt in die Arena gehen. Ich war schon in vielen unterschiedlichen Opern, unter anderen auch in der Met in NY. Aber hier zu sitzen –wie in alten römischen Zeiten– unter freiem Himmel und sich eine Oper anzusehen: Fantastisch. Die Akustik ist natürlich nicht so gut wie in top modernisierten Opernsälen. Aber das Flair ist einzigartig. Wir hatten tolle Sitzplätze und sehr nette Hostessen. Da die Arena kein Dach besitzt, braucht man selbstverständlich Wettergarantie. Zu Trinken und zu Essen ist wie in allen Opernhäusern in den Sälen nicht erlaubt. Dafür gibt es in den Pausen alkoholische und nicht-​alkoholische Drinks und Brezel, natürlich mit hohen Preisen. Aber das nimmt man in Kauf. Absolut ein Besuch wert!

Visited this arena twice on the same day, during the day and night. During the day, you need to pay to get in. They were setting up for the night’s David Gilmour concert. At night, we were at the concert, which was a different experience.

La arena es un lugar taaaan parecido al colloseo pero que no le llega ni a los talones…
Estando en verona es imposible no entrar a la arena ya que es uno de los atractivos que más llaman luego de las casas de romeo y julieta y de sus tumbas. Aunque la verdad es algo de lo que diría se puede prescindir completamente, quizás la ópera que se desarrolla en ella si sea un lugar de agrado y los espectáculos valgan la pena. Pero la arena en si es simplemente una fachada en parte restaurada, bastante parecida al coliseo.
La entrada cuesta 7 €. Y una vez adentro se ve algo de lo que había y luego se ingresa al teatro donde se realiza lo de la ópera en lo que lo único que se aprecia son butacas vacías.
Nada de la fachada anterior, nada que valga la pena ver simplemente un teatro moderno con butacas de asientos plegables vacíos.
Un lugar para no recomendar.

One of the most spectacular musical experiences I’ve ever had. I would recommend seeing «Aida,» which they perform every year, and thus not surprisingly they do unbelievably well. I think you get a better view from the seats in the arena, rather than sitting down in the expensive seats. The acoustics are amazing. It took some convincing of me to accept that there was no amplification of the sound – it’s all natural. If you do sit in the arena itself, bring some padding – and then rent/​buy a pad that they are selling. The stone surface is incredibly hard, which is why the arena has lasted for 2000 years.

Must place to visit when in Verona!

This place was quite impressive to see needless to say! I did find out that they still preform at the Arena and plan on making a trip back this year to watch the Romeo and Juliet showing there. I will be back to update the review after that… but its a must stop and see sight in Verona!

Die Arena von Verona ist ein gut erhaltenes Bauwerk inmitten Veronas, in dem auch die sommerlichen Festspiele stattfinden. Möchte man zu den Zeiten außerhalb die Arena besichtigen, muß man Eintritt zahlen. Nur zum Besichtigen der Arena muss man pro Person € 6 zahlen, ob sich das wirklich lohnt, kann jeder selbst beurteilen — für mich nicht wirklich.

I prefer reviewing stuff I can give 4 or 5 stars. Arena di Verona is a pleasure to review. This place is the best location to Opera. If you opera, opera here. And BYOB, just put it in a bag at the bottom. Might be a long night with all the breaks in an opera. They don’t really check bags or so. BYOB and BYOP (…Pillow… to sit on. Not so but-​friendly seats. At least not after the first two hours…)

Anlässlich eines Messebesuches sind wir in Bologna gewesen. Auf dem Rückweg haben wir wegen des mega schönen Wetters beschlossen, dass wir nicht direkt heim fahren, sondern noch einen Abstecher nach Verona machen.
Nach einem schönen Stadtbummel sind wir natürlich noch zur Arena di Verona.
Der Eintrittspreis zur Besichtigung liegt bei 6 € für einen Erwachsenen. Von Oktober bis Mai kostet der 1. Sonntag im Monat nur 1 € pro Person.
Natürlich wirkt die Arena bei Tage betrachtet schon toll, aber sicherlich nicht so atemberaubend wie bei Nacht. Unter klarem Sternenhimmel und dürfte einem aber vermutlich wirklich kurz der Atem stocken.
Der Aufstieg war gar nicht so einfach für mich, weil ich extrem unter Höhenangst leide und es gab teilweise kein Geländer oder nur an einer Seite.
Offensichtlich ging es nicht nur mir so, denn beim Abstieg ist eine Frau hinter mir gestürzt und zwar auf mich und hat sich dann an mir festgehalten. Aber ihr Versuch mich mit in die Tiefe zu ziehen ist nicht gelungen, denn ich konnte mich an der nächsten Brüstungsstange festhalten.
Die gute Dame und ihre Begleiter waren so geschockt, dass sie nicht mal Danke gesagt haben. Ich war allerdings auch geschockt und durfte dann eine Woche meine Prellungen pflegen.
Wenn ich mir nun vorstelle, dass ich abends bzw. bei relativ schlechter Beleuchtung da rauf oder runter muss… urgs…
Aber trotzdem möchte ich unbedingt dort mal eine Oper genießen!

If you’re in Verona in the summer, you really should go to the opera. If you don’t mind sitting on the steps then it’s really cheap (around 25 euros but prices increase quickly when you reserve a seat). It really is a stunning venue and even if you’re not that much into Opera (I’m not) then the impressive staging in such an amazingly well preserved amphitheatre is reason enough.
So before you go, here’s a few tips:
— take a picnic with you if you’re on the steps. Chances are you’ll want to scout out a good spot and be sitting there for 2 hours waiting so best do something while you wait. Decanted some wine into a plastic bottle and enjoy.
— Don’t drink too much. The toilets are located outside so keep hold of your ticket as you will need them to sign it on exit.
— If you book your ticket online you really do need to print it out to go in (unlike the leaning tower for example). Go to a tourist information and they might be so kind as to do it for you if you have limited access to printers whilst travelling.
— Make sure you’re actually spending the night in Verona if you’re planning on sitting through the whole opera. The showings don’t start until about 9 and some operas can go on until 1am depending on the number of acts.
— Keep an eye on the weather. This year a number of operas have been cancelled whilst some have been cut short. It’s unfortunate as if you’re travelling you may not be hear more than a couple of nights so come with a mac or something.
— DO bring something to sit on if you’re taking the steps option. The comfier the better. It can become eye-​watereringly painful to sit on stone steps for long periods of time.
— Unless you’re sitting on the posh chairs done at the front, just dress normally. There really is no need to be all fancy up on the steps.
–DO make sure you at least have the Wikipedia synopses of each act available to have a quick read through before and after each act otherwise you probably won’t know what’s going on if you’re not an opera fan.
Ultimately, this will be an experience you will remember for the rest of your life so go and enjoy.

While visiting Verona for the day from Venice. I visited the arena which happens to be older then Rome’s Colosseum.
The arena is still used for live concerts and is in still good condition. I didn’t tour the inside but was happy I rode the Verona sightseeing tour bus which visited the highlights of the city.
The city is quaint and has many parks and people bike riding. Another nice attraction is the seeing the statue of Juliet and visiting the small square where her statue is located.

Ach, das muss man erlebt haben. Illustere Gäste, von mega chic bis sehr leger. Die Akkustik ist schon beeindruckend so ganz ohne Verstärker, besonders im Parkett. Weiter oben ist alles noch wunderbar zu verstehen, allerdings trifft einen die Musik dort nicht mehr so ins Mark.

Lange schlangen sind hier vorprogrammiert. Ich weiß nicht ob es sich lohnt, bin nicht dort gewesen.

Aida Weißwein oder Rotwein traumhafte Musik beim Triumphmarsch geht der Vollmond auf. Eigentlich kitschig aber so schöööööööööööööön. Es ist einfach nur zu empfehlen

Still incredibly intact after 2000 years, this is a must visit for anyone with an appreciation for history, art, and ultra violence.

Pretty amazing that this structure is still being used, thousands of years later!

You can’t go wrong in a 2000 year old arena made from pink marble.
The best way to spend a summer night, even in the cheap seats (since you can bring your own picnic and wine)
And were else can you get 4 horses on stage.

One of the best things I have ever done! We sat up on the ancient stone steps, which remained heated all night from the sun that day. When the opera was about to begin everyone lit candles (in the tradition of the ancient Romans) and let them burn out. It was beautiful and almost kind of rock n’roll, except the arena was filled with the glittering light of the candles instead of from lighters ;) I personally loved the opera. I had read «Carmen» (the opera we saw) in English before I went and I purchased a book for 5 euros (I believe that was the price?) which had the entire opera in both English and Italian. However, the wonderful performances and amazing voices were enough to hold me spellbound despite the language gap. Overall a great evening that I would live over again and again if I could.

Came here for my first ever opera. It’s a cool atmosphere in an ancient Roman amphitheater. I didn’t really understand the opera Tosca that we watched, because it was all in Italian, but it was still interesting to listen to the music and watch the large-​scale production.
The rows were a bit close together, so when we sat in our seats, you had to be careful not to poke the people in front of you with your knees.
84 euros paid for seats in the middle section (Poltroncina di gradinata). I wore a long evening gown, but I saw a range of clothing choices from very elegant to way more casual.

Ich habe durchaus beeindruckendere Bauwerke gesehen die mich mehr fasziniert haben.

Wenn man bedenkt, dass die Arena knapp 2000 Jahre alt ist, bekomme ich eine gewisse Ehrfurcht.
Die Aufführungen haben ein bombastisches Bühnenbild. Unter freiem Himmel eine Oper erleben zu
dürfen, ist schon nett. Die Kleiderordung ist hier aber mehr als gelassen-​Abendkleid und Flip-​Flops
sind hier keine Seltenheit. Ein tolles Erlebnis.

Es wurde alles schon geschrieben. Meine Bewertung sollte genügen. Ich habe dort Carmen gesehen und es war ein sehr schönes Erlebnis. Ich war nicht zum letzten mal dort.

A visiter absolument si vous passez à Vérone.
Vous pouvez aussi la visiter lors d’un opéra. Les places non numérotées dans les gradins sont tout à fait acceptables.
Il faut juste prévoir:
— un coussin (il est possible d’en acheter devant l’arèné ou d’en louer un dans l’arèné) pour s’assoir sur la pierre qui est très chaude en été et ce même la nuit,
— de l’eau (beaucoup d’eau!)
— et un anti-​moustiquevous serez alors paré pour 6h dans l’Arèné!
Prévoyez d’arriver à l’ouverture des portes (vers 19h) si vous choisissez une place non numérotée.
Le spectacle démarre en général vers 21h et se termine vers 1h du matin.
Il est possible de sortir de l’Arèné pendant les entre-​actes (avec son billet) ce qui permet d’aller chercher une glacé ou un granité pour se rafraichir!

If you go to Verona you neeeeeed to go to the Arnea and enjoy that special opera evening.
So amazing, when many people light candles befor the opera starts.

Da es bereits so viele Beiträge zur Arena di Verona gibt, kommt
es auf meinem gewiss nicht mehr an. Dennoch erlaube ich mir einige Aspekte zu
beleuchten: Kulturhistorisch ist die antike Arena eine der am besten
erhaltenen ihrer Art. Dass sie in der bekannten Weise genutzt wird,
beeinträchtigt selbstverständlich antikes Erscheinungsbild, andererseits tragen
die Einnahmen mit Sicherheit auch zur Erhaltung bei. Wir haben dort zwei Opern gesehen. Beide hatten opulente
Bühnenbilder und waren auch die Sänger betreffend hochklassig besetzt. Die Orchester
und Akustik sind überraschend gut, doch kann die Akustik mit einem Opernhaus
natürlich nicht mithalten. Für eine Open-​Air-​Bühne ist die Akustik jedoch
klasse. Modernes Regietheater gibt es hier selbstverständlich nicht. Die Atmosphäre bei den Aufführungen ist durchaus
beeindruckend. Erwischt man einen schönen Abend, träumt man schon einmal Mond
und Sterne an. Im Publikum sitzen nicht wenige Kultur– bzw. Operninteressierte,
doch wohl auch viele Touristen, die die Oper nur der reinen Attraktion wegen besuchen.
Zudem findet sich auch einiger politischer und Geldadel ein, deren Benehmen zum
Teil ebenfalls äußerst unangepasst ist. Noch vor dem Ende des Don Giovanni meinten
viele Wichtigtuer und Touristen offenbar, dass sie nun lange genug gesessen
hätten und verließen geräuschvoll auch während der Vorstellung die Arena. Mit
der Qualität der Aufführung hatte dies eindeutig nichts zu tun! Es handelte
sich eindeutig um komplette Ignoranten. In der Oper Aida fanden sich
tatsächlich ausreichend Trottel im Publikum, die bekannter Stelle vernehmlich
laut im Takt klatschen. Ich erzeugte bei mir (kurzfristig) ein körperliches Unwohlsein. Zur Infrastruktur: Die Sitze sind äußerst unkomfortabel (besser
brutal unkomfortabel) und für ein durchschnittlich großen Mitteleuropäer sind
die Sitzreihen viel zu eng montiert. Am Ende waren Gesäßknochen und
Kniescheiben schwer lädiert. Es gibt auch deutlich zu wenig Toiletten, die zudem in einem
Zustand sind, für den man wohl das Wort ekelhaft benutzen muss.
Trotz der kritischen Aspekte, muss man resümieren, dass wir
wunderbarer Abend erlebt haben. Unser Tipp: Versuchen Sie nicht vor einer Aufführung im Restaurant zu
essen. Es könnte zeitlich knapp werden. Anders lautenden Beteuerungen von Kellnern
sollten Sie keinesfalls trauen. Essen Sie besser in einer Bar, in der es einfache
kleine Gerichte gibt. Versuchen Sie während der Pause die Arena zügig zu
verlassen, um sich in einer Bar mit Getränken zu versorgen. Mit etwas Glück
gelingt es ihnen auch dort anderen Bedürfnissen nachzugehen.

Ich war nur einmal dort zu einer Aufführung der Aida. Das Wetter war gut und es hat nicht geregnet. Die Akustik ist toll und auch wenn man kein Opernfan ist (bin ich auch nicht) sollte man dieses Schauspiel einmal im Leben genießen.
Auch ohne Arena ist Verona sicher eine Reise wert. Negativ war nur, dass man meinen Wagen innerhalb einer Woche zweimal aufgebrochen hat.

Auch wenn man nicht unbedingt der große Opernfan ist, gibt es wohl kaum einen besseren Ort, um sich Aida, Nabucco La Traviatta, etc anzusehen/​hören.

L’arèné de Vérone est un mini coliseum: On voit bien que Vérone est un mini Rome finalement. L’arèné de Vérone est en bon état et bien mis en valeur. C’est également un bon point de repère à Vérone par son emplacement.

Wirklich faszienierend!
War auch tagsüber hier im Rahmen einer Studienfahrt, und die vielen Menschen und Umbauten (wie in einigen Beiträgen vorher schon erwähnt) haben mich wenig gestört, da dieses Bauwerk wirklich auf eine einzigartige Weise beeindruckt.
Das nächste Mal möchte ich unbedingt Eindrücke von einer Opernveranstaltung dort mitnehmen…

Die Arena kostet zur Besichtigung 4 EUR Eintritt bzw. 1 EUR am 1. Sonntag im Monat.
Das aus weißem und rotem Kalkstein im Jahre 30 fertiggestellte Amphitheater ist nach dem Colosseo in Rom und dem Amphitheater in Capua bei Neapel die drittgrößte erhaltene antike Arena der Welt. Auf deren 44 Stufen fanden in der Römerzeit 25.000 Zuschauer Platz.
Die Arena wurde im Mittelalter als Steinbruch genutzt, seit 1580 gesichert, restauriert und seit 1913 für Opernaufführungen genutzt (Karten 25 – 30 EUR).
Davor liegt der Listone, der breite Bürgersteig mit vielen sehr schönen Restaurants.

Wohl eine der spannendsten Opernhäuser auf der Welt. Denn vorweg stellt man sich immer die dringende Frage: «Regnet es, oder regnet’s nicht?»
In unserem Fall regnete es nicht!
Das Publikum ist sehr gemischt, von Touri in Polo und kurzen Hosen mit Capi bis Abendrobe mit Pelzbehang (im Sommer!) war alles dabei.
Wir hatten Karten unten, also mit Platznummerierung und Stühlen und deutlich mehr Pelzstolen. ;) Keine Ahnung wie die Damen es ausgehalten haben, es war auf jeden Fall recht heiß.
Die Akkustik war annehmbar, ist halt Open Air. Die Inszenierungen wohl eher für die breite Masse.
Aber man geht ja wohl auch hauptsächlich wegen der Location und nicht wirklich für die Inszenierung in die Arena di Verona, oder?
Von daher würde ich wohl (das nächste Mal) zu den Steinplätzen oben tendieren.

I found it very interesting to come here a couple of times when there wasn’t an opera being performed, just in the daytime, to wander around inside. It’s fascinating to think that it was built as far back as the first century (AD) and is the second largest Roman amphitheatre in Italy. Certainly an awe-​inspiring sight to see and well worth a visit, whether you go to the opera or not.

What a beautiful venue! Talk about atmposphere, couldn’t do better than here. When you think about the history, what occurred there — sitting on those steps, looking down on the arena imagining the people who hundreds of years ago sat exactly where you are but witnessing scenes of terrible carnage, it fair takes your breath away.
I was lucky enough to see both Aida and Carmen here, fantastic productions, so opulent and grand, the scenery and sets were fabulous, huge, towering obelisks, horses on stage, hundreds of extras. Better than I ever could’ve imagined. We took the cheap seats (the unreserved stone steps at the very top of the arena) which cost something like 25 euros. But we weren’t let down, the view and the sound were amazingly good, they don’t use microphones or speakers as the acoustics are tremendous, every note, every word so clear. To be honest I don’t believe the atmosphere would’ve been so good sitting in the more expensive seats (and they are expensive — over 200 euros) and we saved money by picking up the tickets at the office rather than having them posted to us.
They have a tradition whereby they switch the lights off before the opera starts and hand around small candles, like birthday candle size, and everyone lights them and holds them up, the effect is magical and again sets the mood and transports you away from the modern world. I have uploaded a picture of this, but it doesn’t do it justice!
Honestly, I can’t think of words to describe this properly, I just can’t tell you how wonderful this was — go and experience it for yourself!

Es ist grandios, in der Arena di Verona eine Opernaufführung geniessen zu dürfen. Meine Empfehlung: immer wieder tun!
:-))). und wenn dann der Mond über der Arena auftaucht und alles in sein silbernes Licht taucht, es ist einfach zauberhaft, dazu Verdi es ist einfach toll.

Carmen haben meine Begleiterin und ich hier gesehen. Ganz spontan übrigens. Eine gute Stunde vor Beginn der Aufführung haben wir direkt an der Arena noch Karten bekommen. Man brauchte nicht auf den Schwarzmarkt auszuweichen, es gibt ein kleines Büro gegenüber der Arena, wo man die Karten erhält. Die Aufführung war schön und wirklich groß. Unglaublich viele Akteure auf der Bühne. Die Akustik stimmt hier auch auf den oberen Rängen. Schön war auch zu sehen, dass sich die Zuschauer hier im Gegensatz zu Berlin auch etwas Mühe geben, wenn es um ein feierliches Outfit für den Abend geht. So viele schöné Roben habe ich selten auf einer Veranstaltung gesehen.
Neben der Oper und dem feierlich gestimmten Publikum ist es ein besonderer Reiz, dass die Arena in Verona ein Relikt aus der Antike ist, welches heute noch in Betrieb ist. Wenn man sich um die Arena herum bewegt oder in der Arena, merkt man, dass die Stadt ein Beispiel für die Kontinuität der Kultur auf dem europäischen Kontinent ist. Und man hat das Gefühl, dass wir noch heute mit unserer Hochkultur auf dem aufbauen, was vor zweitausend Jahren von unseren Vorfahren geschaffen worden ist.
Einen kleinen Nachteil will ich aber auch nicht verschweigen. Wenn es Wind gibt, beeinflusst das sowohl die Akustik als auch das Temperaturempfinden der Zuschauer. Nicht nur meine Begleiterin sondern auch einige der anderen Damen in schönen, tief ausgeschnittenen Kleidern hatten hier gegen Ende des Abends etwas zu leiden.
