Plus Camping Jolly

The best comment for this hotel: you get what you pay for.
Overall my experience went pretty well. I got to stay here in one of the dorms for 15 euro. I ended up in one by myself (traveling off season so dont expect this) until around 1am when a girl joined, but meant for 3 people.
Things to know:
–Its a hike getting here: from the venice st. Lucia train station i took the T2 toward Salamonio and got off at Mercato, walked approx. 10 minutes on almost a straight road (google says 15 but im short and made it in 10) to get here. If you have a lot of luggage – take a taxi!
–Its also a hike to the airport: I paid 2 euro 50 cents for the shuttle to town, took the people mover for 1 euro 50 to get to town, paid 8 euro for the public bus to get to the marco polo (vce) airport. They do offer private transfers for 25 euro but i wanted to save a little money.
–Check in is easy but the desk closes around 10pm. I got in about 8pm and saw the signs, but anyone coming in late may be SOL. But once again that girl came in late
–The plugs are rounded (see photos) so some converters you may not be able to use. I bought an actual european charger rather than a converter earlier in my trip so i had no issues.
–The bathroom sucks booty hole. Not literally like its clean and everything but the shower dripped all night, and had no temperature control. I decided to skip it since I was only spending one night before my air bnb but beware!
–The only place to lock your stuff securely is at the front desk for 1 euro. There are no locks in the room although there is one on the door to get in.
Pros:
–heating/​cooling system in individual bungaloos
–Private bathrooms in dorm room (for 3)
–Cheap and simple
–Provided with towel, two sheets, and decent blanket.
–lots of amenities around such as another place to shower, pool, hot tub, restaurant/​bar that turns into a club, laundry center, market (open at certain times of the year), and maps of the property available.
–Computers for use at the front desk
–its pretty clean but bring slippers for the room
–Free wifi, my room wasnt far from the center so i was able to use it comfortably but those on the outskirts may have issues.
Cons:
–I almost died of pollen (May)
–The room feels moist and can definitely get really hot or really cold but i was okay.
–The third bed is lofted and looks kind of dangerous.
–I could hear people talking, listening to music, and i can feel them stepping into other rooms as the bungaloos are not super sturdy and they shake. Im used to loud noises in bostons but light sleepers will not get any sleep.
–They seem understaffed. I ate at the resturaunt for dinner and they told me to pay at the bar. Only one guy was working so it took me 15 minutes to get a hold of him and took 10 seconds to pay my tab. Super annoyed.
Once again: great for quick stays. Probably not so much for longer periods of time.

I was starting a tour at Camping Village Jolly otherwise probably wouldn’t choose a campsite to stay at when in Venice. The negative of this is the location. It’s quite a way from the main part of Venice and while they do run a shuttle, the shuttles full up quickly. We’d stayed in a hotel in Venice for most of our trip and then headed out to the campsite on our last day. I’m glad we did as this place is actually great! We spent the entire day lying by the pool, had lunch from the snack bar by the pool and then dinner at the restaurant in the evening. There is also a shop but it’s open strange hours and not in the middle of the day when you’d usually want to use a shop… anywho, it has typical groceries and sunblock etc which is great if you’re wanting to self cater (as there’s not a lot else around). there’s a laundry as well and the staff are really friendly. So big thumbs up!

Decent hostel try getting here around 11 AM to 12 so you can get a room AWAY from the pool area aka tourist party section. Good thing is that the AC works fine.

So forewarning, this is not a place that I would probably come back to if I were go to Venice again– but with that being said, I thought it was a decent place to be compared to the expensive hotels and hostels in Venice. It was reasonably priced, had decent shuttles to go to the main parts of Venice, had a store on site (very convenient for cheap snacks and drinks, pool/​hot tub). What I didn’t care for was the restaurant and the bar, we ordered the first night in because we were starving from a full day’s travel and what we got was equivalent or below what Olive Garden makes. Not to mention that the service, I felt was pretty bad– we had to wait at least 30 minutes to order and 30 minutes to get our food. The bar also served heavily watered down drinks and on a seperate occasion when my friend needed an ice pack for her knee and the conciege said to go to the bar, the bar refused to give her any ice because they thought we were going to have drinks in our room which was not the case. I would only go to camping jolly, if all the other hotels and hostels in Venice were on fire.

Pros:
*Cheap, definitely affordable.
*Blankets, pillows, sheets, and towels provided.
*AC worked awesome.
*Wifi
*Locks on bungalow doors.
*Bathroom and shower in bungalow.
*Shuttles to Venice city for only 5 €, about as much as public transportation, but better because you get picked up at the site and dropped off super close to the city.
*Store is cheap and has a lot.
*Decent restaurant/​bar. Pretty inexpensive.
*Pool and hot tub.
*Washer and dryer.
*Clean rooms.
Cons:
*Wifi isn’t very good from a far distance, but that’s how the real world works.
*Shower in bungalow is spacious, but the water is either way too cold or scolding. There’s no in between. Honestly couldn’t even use it.
*Bungalow isn’t very stabilized, you can feel every step.
For how cheap this place is, it’s a great place to stay. It has everything you need. It’s nothing extraordinary, hence the price, but it’s not bad. The distance may be far to some but honestly it’s a ¹⁵⁄₂₀ minute bus ride right to Venice for only 5 €. It’s easy and accessible especially for tourists who don’t know where they are going. You do have to pay 1 € for the people mover once you are dropped off, but it takes you right to the glass bridge.
If your shower doesn’t work well, head to the public showers. Seriously, it’s so worth it. I typically would t use a public shower. But it’s good! They are clean, private, and most have places to hang and place your stuff.

My experience was slightly better than expected. The onsite restaurant and bar was great! Pricing was unbeatable and the quality of food was really good. The room we stayed in was one of their older «bungalows» it’s really just a two room two bath trailer. Room was pretty clean, very, very basic amenities (as expected), floor was dusty dirty but not too horrible (for the price point I was expecting pretty awful) Still felt good about everything until we went to sleep. I don’t know why the trailers are not stabilized somehow. Unfortunately, you can feel EACH and EVERY step or movement anyone makes while in the room, and that includes your neighbors. Our neighbor was violently ill both nights we were there, no doubt from the drinks you can buy in the bar that come in a bucket (really!) and we were forced at 2am to try to get another room but the night watchmen wasn’t willing to move us. I literally was motion sick from all of the movement from our neighbor. Overall not as horrible as I was expecting, for the price. If I could book one of the new cabins they have I would stay again.

Ok, I want you to read those glowing reviews around this one? Yes, I saw them before coming here as well. Now, I want you to read this review. Because I had the absolute complete opposite experience and hated my stay at Jolly Plus.
They’re not lying when they day this is a campsite more than a hostel. You are far from the sights of Venice (about a ¹⁵⁄₂₀ minute bus ride) and out near nothing. Here are some of the joys I experienced here:
— The camp site is broken down into small bungalows. I was in one for three people and it was tiny. So much so that all three of us kept smacking our heads on the bed and shelves whenever we turned around. It would have been small for one person. Three was insane.
— The room was either freezing cold or burning hot. We could not figure out an in between.
— The condensation outside the window leaked in, making our stuff wet and the room smell like mildew.
— The plugs did not hold an Italian adapter. Every other plug in Venice did. Not these ones. So when three of us tried to charge our phones, it was just as much fun as you thought it would be.
— When we checked in, they only gave us one key for two people. When we asked for another we were told, «No, we don’t have one. But the other girl in the room does so it’s fine.» The other girl. Who we’ve never met and are not travelling with. That’s fine? Really?
— They run shuttle buses to an island near main Venice. You then have to take a monorail over the island to the station (and back.) The shuttles usually run all day except apparently during winter when we were there. Fine. We booked the last one back at 9:30pm. Only they forgot to tell us that the monorail stops running before the bus arrives! We had to run over the entire bridge to make it to the shuttle on time. Thanks for the warning, Plus.
— The mini market they are so proud of on the website closes during winter. Because people don’t need to eat during winter.
— There were no lockers, no hangers, no anything that usually comes with hostels.
— The lights sometimes worked and would turn on and off again randomly.
Here’s the worst part. I had just come from the Plus hostel in Florence, which was great. Electrical outlet at each bed, giant lockers, great location. It was perfect. But this? I hated every moment in this awful hostel. The only thing it has going for it was it was insanely cheap, which was going to get it another star but I would take the money back and stay somewhere else in a heartbeat.
I’m not sure why the other people had such a great time here and I wish I did too. But jolly? I think not.

No complaints about this comfy, modern «campground”/cheap hotel about ten minutes from the Marco Polo airport. Marie P. and I are staying here right now. We rented a smartcar at the airport for 20 euro a day from Dollar Rent a Car and are staying here while exploring the countryside. The large suburb of Mestre is minutes away and there are plenty of short day trips that are about an hour or less by car. Yesterday we went to Verona which was beautiful and today we are exploring Padua which apparently has a beautiful botanical garden (the oldest one in Europe).
The toll on the A4 is a bit high — we paid 8 euro each way to Verona from Plus Camping Jolly. However, the A4 is just up the road making it a convenient way to get around.
The campground as a shuttle into Venice for 5 euro, expect to pay another euro for the people mover once you arrive. The 10am bus fills up fast and there are often long lines at reception during key check in and check out times.
The beds are comfortable — Marie and I are in a bungalow ($ 16 US per person per night) with is a private room in with a private bath. Sheets and blankets provided but now towels. Toiletries are of the «small container of shampoo and soap-​that-​slivers-​so-​sharp-​it-​can-​cut-​you» variety. No fridge in our room but plenty of storage space and come on, for this price, how can I complain???
The on-​site market has a good selection of food and drinks. Wine starts at less than 2 euro a bottle! Be sure to buy or bring bottled water on your day trips since restaurants in Italy seem to charge for still water and it’s pricier than just picking up a bottle at the market here and bringing it with you for the day. There’s a ten euro minimum for using a credit card at the onsite market.
Wi-​fi is fastest in the middle of the night (it’s something like 5am now, still not used to the time change) and strongest close to the reception area and the bar.

Awesome hostel! The place is clean, and well maintained. It offers everything that you would ever need as a backpacker/​camper. It has a market, laundry, pool, restaurant, breakfast and a bar.
The shuttle is awesome and always on time, but it ends up being € 6 per person to get to and from the city (with the € 1 «people mover» cost each way). It’s tough when there really isn’t a more reasonable way to get there, because it is so far away from everything. Laundry costed € 8.00/load to be washed and dried.
Overall we loved staying at the Camping Jolly, and I would suggest it to anyone who comes to Venice!

I came as a backpacker in Venice, Italy in May 2010. I knew Venice was the most expensive city in all of Italy so I had to find affordable accommodation. This is the most affordable I could find @ 13 Euros (About $ 20 at the time).
This place is not in Venice, Venice but really in the outskirts. The main thing is that there are bus lines that run from this site to the heart of Venice for a reasonable fare. So I opted for this location. They have dorms and campsites as well. I was in a four bedroom dorm, by myself. The place is relatively clean. They even have wifi if you are at the right location.
I highly recommend this place. It would’ve been better with more people as there were mainly campers and not people staying in dorms. The dorms were kind of tent-​like as well, so it’s interesting. I stayed here two nights so I got a chance to see all the Venice canals and sights. Highly recommended.
