We needed to find late-night food at 10pm, and this was a bar/restaurant we found in Campo de Margherita. It was a terrific, very affordable place. We paid € 7/€ 8 for our pastas(gnocchi and Taglierini), and both were very tasty. I believe the other review that they could be microwaving some of their food is true, but it was as much a bar as a restaurant, and our expectations weren’t sky high for that time of night. There was also fun music to create an upbeat ambience. We ordered a € 14 bottle of wine, and the wines ranged from about € 14-€ 25. Perhaps the best part of our meal was the service. Tony was our server and appeared to be the son of a husband/wife owner. He took care of us, knew we were new visitors, and at the end of the night, even gave my wife and I a complimentary shot he created himself. The free shot might have been partially been because he wanted us to pay in cash because of taxes, so try to bring cash. Anyway, he was a very nice guy and will make you feel welcome. This was our first night here, but we would definitely come back.

I’m so glad we stayed in the Dorsoduro district in Venice, it’s more peaceful than touristy San Marco area. You can actually view local life while walking around this part of town, Campo Santa Margarita is the place to hang out. Quirky shops, a farmers market in the morning, bars and restaurants abound. We stumbled upon this place while passing through. It’s a casual space with an open kitchen along with small wooden tables and chairs(not the most comfy!) We looked at the menu and when in Venice, you can’t go wrong with anything seafood. The swordfish carpaccio was absolutely fresh! the accoutrements couldn’t be more simple: caperberries, olives, sundried tomatoes and drizzled with olive oil. Why does this taste so amazing? well, it was probably bought from the market that same day! Pair this with a refreshing Venetian spritz made with aperol and club soda and you’re set. The pasta of the day was lasanga. While it was delicious, it was a bit pricier than usual for a small serving at € 8. Plus, we saw them heat it up in the microwave! Oh my. Microwaves in Italy?! If I had an Italian nonna, she’d have a heart attack! ;)
