Nice lunch place in a nice square I had the Genovese sandwich and the bf had the calzone. Good coffee/snacks/sunny seats were all we needed on a nice fall day

I’m sorry, but this place just sucked. The Good: White wine was dry and mild, decent for a mid-afternoon sip. The Bad: The ham and cheese panini I ordered was completely tasteless and dry. As hungry as I was, this was borderline inedible. Chewing on a sandwich-shaped cardboard cut-out would have compared favorably. The Ugly: I’m just left wondering how much money the owner paid our tour guide to recommend this place.

(4÷8÷2014) We were wandering around looking for San Lorenzo and stumbled through Piazza Santa Maria di Formosa in the Castello district of Venice. Needed something to eat, stopped in and got the Rustico Calzone(ham, cheese, tomato sauce) and Pizzetta Margherita. Both were sufficient and probably would’ve been pretty decent, but we got there right when a crush of American teenage tourists flooded the place. Our meals were underdone and doughy(raw dough) and cold through the middle, but were cheap and a substantial portion for the price. 2 in our party got some 2 euro Tonno and Cippolini sandwiches(half a white-bread sandwich), looked plain. We did help ourselves to a table outside in the piazza, was a nice break, this square is quieter than most and fairly far from the throngs at San Marco.
