I should mention first that we are no pen aficionados — but I think that if you want to buy a nice pen, it’s best to go to a place where the aficionados are, because that is likely to get you a good selection, and good advice. Well, at least in the case of Stilografiche Monasterolo, this was sound thinking. The shop is small, but full of pens, inks and everything in-between. Collector’s items for thousands of Euros as well as pens for kids, you get it all, and with a wide selection. Mr. di Ciabatti thankfully speaks not only Italian(our Italian is not good enough for subtle discussions of taste), but is also fluent in French and English, so with communication established, it wasn’t very long until my dear wife settled herself with a very nice pen. Torino does not seem the #1 tourist stop in Italy, but I cannot see why. The city is great, food is divine, people are friendly and even the pen shops excel. If you’re around, don’t skip Torino, and once there, don’t skip this shop.
