I had an absolutely lovely lunch in this quaint restaurant hidden away in the Tuscan countryside. We had purchased a Groupon to try out something new and were pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is cozy and intimate, very Tuscan, very country. Nothing fancy but not too rustic either. We were there for lunch on a weekday and there were only a few other tables occupied which really actually surprised me given its secluded location in a very off-track part of Tuscany. I suppose the locals know of this place and they must make up the core of Il Convio’s clientele. We had truffle and sausage tagliatelle, truffled gnocchi, various meat dishes, grilled vegetables and desserts. The recipes were simple, the presentation of the dishes was simple and the food was hearty and delicious. We were not disappointed! The service was a bit slow as there was only one person serving, taking orders and writing up the bill but it didn’t bother us as we understand that on a quiet weekday, they can’t have a full staff available. This is the go-to place for an authentic, homecooked Tuscan meal far off the beaten path. Although we went on a chilly cloudy autumn day, I can imagine that this place becomes amazing in the warmer months. They have vast green areas outdoors, a lovely garden with tables and lounge chairs. I’m thinking that many probably come here also to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other events. It’s the ideal setting. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a satisfying, unpretentious meal whipped up with fresh local ingredients!
