Walked probably 30 minutes only because we had very disappointing pasta in Venice and Florence. Was seated immediately. The pasta is definitely on my top 3 list. We got the pecorino and pepper spaghetti and the rigatoni with cream sauce and sausage. The guys there were awesome. Very hard working. Would recommend!

I loved the pasta I ordered. It was something of «cream Pepe» I could be off on the Anne but it was pretty much like a Alfredo sauce with lots of pepper. The noodles were cooked al dente which I like. Service was nice.

Seriously, this place is as good as it gets. Every time I visit Roma this place is a must for me, my family, and my friends. Everyone I have brought here has ranted and raved about the secret of their house special pasta dish. I’ll leave that a surprise for you, but there will be no surprise when I hear that you have had the best pasta dish of your life.

I must start by stating that the service was horrible. I actually didn’t eat there. The place was full so either it’s good or Unilocal has helped them grow. I entered and waited to be seated. Then I was told that there were no tables available as they were full and only had for people with reservation. As I turned away to leave they told the next couple in line that there was a table available. That couple looked at me with a puzzled look as they heard them tell me that there were no tables. They proceeded to sit them. I don’t know if the person didn’t like something of me or my wife personally but I felt they needed to know that what they did was wrong.

We walked in the door and the guy already said no space. Even though we showed up at 7ish and they were open till midnight– we even told the guy it was our last night in Rome and any table would be fine…

Walked into this place right before lunch rush was coming. First sign that this was an amazing restaurant was the Roman son and older mother having a lunch date next to us. Order three different types of pasta all of them piping hot and flavorful. Going back before I leave, don’t forget to get their house special it’s out of this world.

I was looking for a decent sit down restaurant while in Rome that was close to my hotel and i found this place on Unilocal so we decided to give it a try. I was looking through reviews and found that it tends to get crowded and reservations are usually required but we didn’t have a way to make reservations that day so we chanced it and got there right when they opened hoping we could get a seat. We walked in and here were already a bunch of people on one side of the restaurant. When we asked about a table they seemed very unsure if they could accept us, we would have understood if they would have turned us away but they didnt. They told us they could seat us but they had a big reservation coming in at a certain time so we had to leave when they got there, which was fine because we had quite a while before they would get there so we knew that we would be done by the time they would arrive. We were just happy that they were able to seat us. the food was delicious! We were feeling full and didnt finish our food so had left overs so it didnt look like we were finished and the giant reservation party had arrived. At that point we decided to pack up our food and go because we were full anyways and we didnt want to be rude or in the way but the man who seated us told us we could stay if we wanted to and he was very friendly and made us feel welcomed but we didnt want to be a in the way of the party. They had seated us when they couldnt so we wanted to be polite back and leave when we had to. But i am very happy that we got to eat here. Definitely a place id return to.

I went there with a local and we had so much fun! Ok, it’s full of people but it’s quite big and food is super great and not that small portions. I had tons of fun with the staff, smiling and funny, they make the party! They are super nice. So many dishes that is difficult to choose but the famous pastas are very good, so if you have doubts, stick to that — like carbonara or gnocchi with tomato and sea food.

Great place that is well worth seeking out. It is a nice traditional dining experience where both local and tourists are welcomed. We ate there twice and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. It is good value for money the quality is high, all made fresh. Highly recommended!

BESTPASTA I’VEEVERHAD! Our AirBnB host told us about this place and said that it is his favorite pasta in Rome so of course we had to try it. The Bucatini All’amatriciana FLAMBE is a MUST!!! We tried to recreate the dish several times since coming back to the states but it obviously didn’t taste even close. Note — come early to make a reservation. We came around noon to make a dinner reservation, spent the day at the Vatican, then came back for dinner. Perfect day! YOUMUST eat here if you’re in Rome!!!

Our host recommended two places to us and marked them on a map(she spoke so quickly and in such a thick accent, we never actually heard the name, but followed her directions via«X marks the spot»). On our trek back home we decided to stop at one of these, went around the block and found what we thought might be the restaurants – ironically we got to the restaurant at exactly 7:15, and after wheeling and dealing with the wait staff that we’d leave before the assigned guests arrived, we sat at a reserved table. Our waiter(after playing«guess his name») Sergio was a hoot! House wine was easily drinkable too(we ordered one liter and ended up with 1.5). We both ordered the house specialties, buccatinni with pecorino and bacon and spaghetti with parmesan and vegetables. Thank god we declined the bruschetta because we could hardly eat half of our plates – large portions but ohhhh so delicious! I would have licked the bowl clean if I could have! Would highly recommend, but would definitely advise to make a reservation ahead of time – there’s no rush to finish quickly and thus guests stay long passed kitchen hours!(Lucky for us, the table we sat at the guests never came, so our 2 hour window to eat turned into 4 hours!) so far our favorite place we’ve eaten at in Rome!

We showed up at 10pm looking to get a table for 2(hours are listed as open til midnight). The place was fairly busy when we walked in. We stood by the entrance for 10 minutes, thinking someone would eventually greet us or tell us how long we’d have to wait. No such luck, no one acknowledged us, and the workers actively avoided making eye contact as they passed back and forth. Finally, we decided to flag someone down, and they told us that if we didn’t have a reservation that we wouldn’t be served. This was at 10pm with 2 hours til close, and a few empty tables in the restaurant. I get that restaurants can get busy and can even get completely booked up sometimes, but going out of your way to ignore us for 10 minutes is a bit ridiculous. Needless to say we won’t be coming back

I wish I could give them a one star review!!! We got there at 10:30 and saw that 2 couples are standing outside waiting for a table. We walked in and was greeted by a tall waiter who had a long beard. As soon as we told him that we want a table for 2 in ENGLISH, he said«oh sorry full, come back tomorrow»… I was like you gotta be jocking me, piece of S**** We had walked an hour to get to that place, according to Unilocal they would be open until midnight… What the heck does it mean that we are full… And not to mention some people were done with their food and were about to leave… I was furious… No food for us there and we were very disappointed with the restaurant… They deserve zero stars… But I guess I can settle for one star for now!!! Note to the owner: you are € 100 less rich because of your stupid long bearded waiter… You should FIRE him!!! God knows howmany people this guy declined to serve!

Yes pasta is salty-at least the ones with pecorino, which is what we had. But very delicious and generous portions. Watch out for the *‘s. They denote frozen which you may not want. Baccala appetizer was fresh and tender which we shared, though small. Then spaghetti cace e pepe a traditional Roman pasta and bucatini ala Gricia,(Bacon and pecorino). For seconds, Partner had veal cutlets and I grilled veggies. More than enough; no room for dessert. That plus a liter of water, half a liter of house red came to a grand total of 45 euros, including 2 euros for really good bread. Tip: they bring the bread automatically, so if you don’t want it say so. Off the beaten path but walking distance from the central train station, and not far from Santa Maria Maggiore.

A busy place with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. We ordered Bruschetta for starters and they could have been nice if it wasn’t for the black burnt edges. I’m told that thats the right way to do a bruschetta so that was alright then, but not to my personal taste. :) Then it was time for a nice pasta. The house special for me(thick spaghetti with a bacon, tomato sause) and gnocchi with tomato sauce for my girlfriend. To that the house wine. The pasta was really good but remember, if you’re ordering gnocchi, make sure that you are really really hungry! You will be so stuffed that you don’t want anything more that day. ;-) I would like to sample more from the menu before I really can give a fair review. But try it, that’s my advice for today. The marks May go up next visit.

No go. Portions are large! So if you’re into quantity over quality this place is for you! Their specialty bucatini all’amatraciana was SALTY. As I don’t eat salty food, you know most of it was left on the plate. The carbonara was over done. The eggs were borderline scrambled and the pasta NOT al dente. Dunno if it was my mistake or his, but I was given deep fried fish fillets instead of the zucchini blossoms and we were given deep fried assorted veg which I thought was ours and ate from. When I realized it wasn’t I flagged down the server and he took it away, giving it to the table next to ours saying it was on the house! We got our correct starters: a bruschetta of artichoke and one of mushroom. The mushroom was definitely better. The zucchini blossoms was over battered and honestly I enjoyed the fried veg he took away before. so, avoid the blossoms but go for the assorted fried veg!

10 stars! Kept seeing bad reviews only to read on and realize it was from people who didn’t get a chance to eat here. Don’t be fooled by that garbage. We came during lunch hour to avoid the dinner rush, and it was phenomenal. 2 pizzas and a liter of wine for 21 euro?! You kidding me? Fantastic experience, pizza was incredible. Red wine was served chilled, which, for a gringo from Texas was a new one to me… But by gosh it did the trick. Experienced no «American» bias as mentioned by others, just think European culture as a whole is considerably more relaxed than the states– which in my opinion is refreshing. You’ll be glad you went.

My wife and I got there and one of the servers said it would take a couple of minutes, which we were fine with it since we were excited to dine there after seeing the reviews. The restaurant is hidden in this little corner but it is very spacious and looks very good(maybe the reason I could give them 2 stars). I’m not sure if this other guy was the owner or the main server, but right after we were told it would be a couple of minutes he showed up with this very rude attitude telling us there was no space and that they were only taking reservations. They had plenty of empty tables and could at least be respectful and tell us when to come back. Will give it another shot one day, but very disappointed with the attitude.

Tried there once by myself but was not able to get in. All the seats were empty but was told they were all reserved. So I had to try this place again and the next time I got there at 7:10 and was able to snatch a table for 3. We were told to finish before 9PM which we were fine with. We saw lots of tourists in here around 7−9pm. But by the time we left, there were lots of locals coming in. I get it. This place is good value. Generous portion and good food for the price. But I wish the service was better. DRINKS: House white was good. Generous portion SERVICE: Ah — This is where I had to give this place 2 stars. we had to wave for waiters multiple times for more water, more wine, napkins, balsamic vinegar for my salad. Also food took more than 45min to come out. we were fine with leaving before 9PM but the food didn’t come out until 8:15 or so. DECOR: Nice décor. Typical Roman style basement restaurant. FOOD/PRICE: Do NOT even bother ordering Insalata Verde — this is just chopped up romaine lettuce. Unless you know that and that’s what you want, of course. This is probably not specific to this place. Spaghetti with mussels was really good. Generous portion as well. Grilled Turbot was good also.

This is why I love Unilocal. First night in Rome, tired from a long day of travel, ready to throw in the towel and eat at the nearest place. But no… I would consult Unilocal for something relatively cheap and high quality. And you brought me here. Trattoria Vecchia Roma was pretty great. The place was totally packed, buzzing with tourists and locals(even a legit monk in a full monk robe and everything). It’s a huge basement-type space with sprawling rooms and lots of chatter. We were quickly seated and our eager young server was quick to drop by. This is the kind of place where the waiters wear T-shirts. If you want tuxedos, go elsewhere. I ordered a mushroom pizza and it was great. Very big, but thin and plenty tasty. My girlfriend ordered the grilled cheese and… well… in Italy, a grilled cheese isn’t a sandwich. It’s just a pot of hot cheese. So don’t order that. We added a four-cheese pizza since she couldn’t make it through her cheese slab, and that was also good. I will say the house white wine was pretty awful. If memory serves, you only have a choice between white or red. No specific types. Ours tasted pretty bitter. That said, we ordered two pizzas, a pot of(grilled) cheese and house wine and it came out to less than $ 45. That’s amazing value for Rome. Of all the places we ate in the city, this place offered the best service. Thank you, fellow Unilocalers. You’re the best.

Toller Laden! Halber Liter Vino bianco 3,50 Euro. Auf jeden Fall wieder.
