Fantastic food(if you know what to order) at good prices. Go for the polpo starter and grilled calamari entrée. Very friendly staff, we loved it. Next time we are in Trastevere, we will be eating here.

Excellent Roman food at a decent price, we had pasta that was excellent and oxtail, very yummy, highly recommended!

The restaurant we initially wanted to go to was closed so we tried this taverna nearby and it was a really nice surprise! They serve good traditional roman food. The Cacio e Pepe pasta was delicious! The carciofi veal stew was also really good. I recommend it!

We happened onto this restaurant for lunch and enjoyed it so much we brought the rest of our family for dinner the same day. Very relaxing atmosphere on a picturesque square. Good variety on the menu and everything we had at both meals was very good– excellent. Our waitress, Ailene, was delightful, attentive, helpful and efficient. She’s part of the reason we returned even though she wasn’t able to wait on us for dinner. The manager was helpful and friendly.

I liked the place and the food was really good, but the service was so impersonal and money orientated. I just don’t like if you share a dish and they roll with their eyes…

My mother said if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all… sorry mom but I will say that part of good cooking and serving and really doing anything in life is passion, to quote the Everly Brothers the Taverna Del Scalla has lost that loving feeling… go anywhere else!

Great restaurant. Amazing spaghetti vongole(spaghetti with clams), bolgnaise(meat sauce), and polmadore(tomato sauce). Very reasonably priced. We also had the lamb, which was very flavorful.

Love it when we go to a spot, order 6 different dishes(steak Gorgonzola, gnocchi, lasagna — excellent home made) and everyone is happy. On top of that it’s affordable.

Food was decent, price was good, but service was down right surly. The waiter had some kind of attitude and I wasn’t the only he pissed off in the time we were there. No reason to go back when there are so many other options. Food = **** Service = * Price = ***

We had a delicious meal. Very typically Roman. I had Ox tail stew and sautéed spinach and my daughter had a large salad with tuna. It was simple but perfect. Service was friendly and good. Prices are reasonable. This is the real Trastevere before the tourists bloated the servings and the menus.

the food was ok, but nothing exciting. the food is somewhat bland in taste and slightly boring. it seems to me like the place have become complecant with all the tourists and are therefore not fulfilling its true potential. it have a great potential but they would have to pick themselves up again. the servers did a great job but in my opinion they are understaffed compared to other restaurants in rome.

Garbage. They said the pasta is homemade… but mine was undercooked and by undercooked, I mean HARD the way boxed pasta is when it’s not ready yet. We were told artichokes are not served when they’re not in season… but they were in season because we had them at two other restaurants in the same week. There is a dish with three meatballs in some red sauce on a plate — the meatballs have no flavor. Side dish of eggplant was lukewarm, mushy, and had a sticky sweet brown sauce on it — gross. I asked for tap water and was straight up told NO — that I would have to buy still or sparkling or else no water would be served. Fine — so I ordered a liter of wine and was given a huge attitude. For one liter of wine for two people? Panna cotta was brought to the table and it tasted worse than fast food restaurant flan. I mean, I really feel like the restaurant staff think that tourists, and American ones at that, have no clue and no palate, which is really insulting. There are a dozen restaurants within a radius of 25 feet of this restaurant — save the experience for one of them instead.

Antipasti and Pizza. I had mozzarella and prosciutto and my wife a margarita pizza. Fresh mozzarella and ham was tasty. Served with thick yummy bread. Pizza had light fresh sauce with thin crispy crust that was delicious.

I know this restaurant for more than 10 years now and it’s still very good. Excellent simple Italian food for fair price. And like 10 years ago, often you have to wait for while before getting a table, but it’s worth waiting.
