San Marco

For me San Marco is more about the ambience than the food. It has a very warm feel to it and the bright yellow awning over the sidewalk patio really brightens the area.
On Via Tacito there are several restaurants, San Marco is one that always seems bustling, but you don’t need reservations. We had pasta dishes when here and they were OK. I had a mushroom ravioli and it was absolutely swimming in mushrooms — which is fine, expect you kind of want a balance of flavor. I also seem to remember it wasn’t that hot, maybe it sat out a while.
Service was a bit slow, but it was all fine, just nothing outstanding about it.

We finally landed on San Marco one night for dinner when we couldn’t find another place we were looking for. They looked good enough and inviting enough that we decided to sit in.
We sat outside and the service was a little slow, but what we got was very good. The tables were extremely small (especially when you add in the bread and stuff). We never received any balsamic or evoo for the bread, which seemed fine, until we noticed that other tables got it.
I got the pasta with sausage which was just okay. It didn’t wow me after all the fantastic pasta we’d had over the course of our trip. And we were all pizza’d out after all the pizza we had on this trip.

Great food terrible service. We came for a family vacation from the U.S.A. We speak a little Italian, just enough to get by but are trying our best to speak Italian and not English when going to establishments. The waiter possibly owner seemed annoyed by us in every way. We tried our best to speak the language and we ARE very easy customers. He would not help us with ANY questions we had. Everything we ordered came out wrong except one pizza and water. It basically seemed like he brought us what he wanted BUT did charge us for exactly what we ordered in spite of not bringing us that and to add to it charged us 10 euro for bread !! The pizza was great but I would never recommend this place because of the terrible service. I am only giving it two stars because the food was good. I’m sorry I understand tourists CAN be annoying as I live right by New York but when you have a restaurant IN a tourist location and most of your business relies on it how dare you treat customers this way. Very disappointed for our first experience in Rome

This place was recommended to us by our hotel and it didn’t disappoint. We are here twice so far. Their Neopolitano margarita pizza is incredible– and not what you expect — it’s still a thin crust but thicker than their standard pizza and the best I’ve had in Italy ever. Thor roman dishes are incredible. In particular I had a pasta called something «de pepe” — can’t remember the full name but it’s a simple dish but made of cheese and black pepper and incredible!

Loved this place! Went back twice during our vacation. The best pizza in town. The place was recommended by local friends that go there for lunch and dinner often. Very good and clean atmosphere, friendly staff and very fair price. The soufflé is incredibly good — remember to order immediately right after you sit down or you will have to wait a while. Well worth it! =D

super Restaurant. am ersten Tag, nach vielen Entdeckungen und Kultur, in Rom gingen wir die Straßen in der Nähe unserer Wohnung durch und entdeckten dieses, selbst von der Vermieterin empfohlene, Restaurant. durch zwei Außenseiten bietet sich nahezu jederzeit die Möglichkeit draussen zu sitzen. durch anliegende, abends geschlossene, Läden lässt sich auch schnell mal ein Tisch mehr raus stellen. Die Pizza Auswahl ist enorm und traditionell im Holzkohlegrill gemacht. Auch die Nudelgerichte sind super lecker, auch wenn bei den Spagetthi Vongole einige Muscheln mit Gewalt geöffnet wurden. Trotzdem über zeugt San Marco nicht nur mit gutem Essen und sehr gutem Preis-​Leistungs-​Verhältniss, sondern bietet, was der Name des Restaurants vermuten lässt, auch viele Meeresspeisen, bzw viele Meeresfrüchte in den Speisen. Leider war beim zweiten Mal unser Kellner so im Stress das wir auf einmal zum Essen kein Wein hatten, aber das kann bei so viel Kundschaft an dem Abend ja mal vor kommen. Englisch habe ich bei einigen Kellnern leider nicht feststellen können, aber selbst touristisch unterlegtes Italienisch verstanden Sie ohne große Probleme. Insgesamt ein Restaurant das mit italienischer Atmosphäre und super Essen vollends überzeugt, da kann man die Kleinigkeiten mal gerne übersehen. Jedes mal wieder gerne!

We have been staying in Prati on a family trip to Rome with 6,8 and 20 year old kids. We went on on a Sunday night at 8 and it was pretty empty when we sat down. Stomach time!
Ordered pizzas for kids and and the older one had a pizza with egg plant, zucchini and some other interesting odds and ends. Pizzas were good this place is known for its Pizza and they were some of the best we have had in Italy. Wife had some pasta with salmon which I wish I had after trying it and I had pasta Bolognese which was good, nothing super special. I has a great fantastic bottle of wine from Piedmont for 40 Euro. They have a large selection organized by region and proper wine cooler for the goods. Bottles priced from 20 to 100ish so you can decide what damage you want to do to your bank account.
Desserts where good and family of 5 and everyone was stuffed with good food and spirit.
Our waiter Sebastiano even warmed up to us and the kids once he realized they were legit foodies living the dolce vida in Roma with dinner starting at 8PM which is not the norm for them.

May be we should have stuck to the Pizza! I had the gnocchi with porcini mushroom and frankly it was well worth missing, had no taste, I think the mushroom were canned or frozen. My husband pasta had some kind of meat sauce on some very wide tubular pasta, his was tasty. My two other companions also had pasta and neither one of them were very happy with their dish. The restaurant seemed very popular with locals, and tourist, as there are many hotels nearby. Lots of others restaurants around, try something else!

San Marco serves excellent pasta dishes, pizzas and brochetas at very reasonable prices. In addition the staff is friendly and service oriented. During our 5 days stay in Rome we enjoyed dinner twice at San Marco. Both locals and turists eats here. So do hurry up and try this restaurant!

My 14-​year-​old son and I splurged on the chocolate soufflé with zabaglione sauce. 8 € and worth every cent. You need to order it when you order you main course.

The most amazing pasta alla salsiccia e salvia you can find around. Close enough to the center that you can walk, but far enough from the Vatican that you can beat all the tourist traps!

We came for easter sunday lunch, it was so hard to look for an open restaurant that would accept customers that when we saw the numerous vacant chairs outside the restaurant, we knew we finally found a spot.
Unfortunately, they recommended to sit inside since they were low on staff and didn’t want customers unattended. We agreed and waited around 10minutes for a table of 5. We ordered off the Menu di Pasqua and I got the Cannelloni all’ Emeliana. It was really good! The portion was so huge, but I managed to eat everything! Haha
Order house wine instead of water, coz its cheaper, plus its better. Its wine!
As for their regular menu — they have a pretty good selection, it would’ve been more enticing if if their menu had pictures, but I guess its a Italian thing? Because all the other restaurants we went to didn’t have pictures on their menus either.
I recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting the vatican city. It is a little far from the Vatican and the wait is a little long, but its totally worth it. :)

A longtime pizza lover, I was eager to try a Roman pizza. Walking around the Prati neighborhood near our hotel on Friday evening, we decided Pizzeria San Marco looked like a good choice.
The restaurant was very inviting with both outside and inside seeing. We elected to sit inside.
Prati is not a section of Rome with an overly amount of tourists. It was apparent that there were both locals (families and individuals) aa well as out-​of-​towners dining here. (The menu was multilingual.) A neighborhood place, nicely appointed. Service was prompt and accommodating.
I ordered a pizza La Salumi, with prosciutto, salami, and sausage. It was delicious! Thin and crispy crust. Portion just right for an individual meal. My wife ordered a Margherita pizza and enjoyed it as well. We shared a gelatto for dessert. Italy does have the world’s best ice cream!

Es ist sicher keine Touristenfalle, aber das Essen ist auch nicht überragend. Preis-​Leistung stimmen.

Hallo ihr da Draussen, …wenn man ohne Idee durch Rom irrt, ist die Chance, in eine Touristenfalle zu geraten, relativ hoch. GLücklicherweise landet man doch ab und an einen Treffer — wie hier, bei San Marco. Wir kamen damals ziemlich abgekämpft vom Flughafen Ciampino ins Hotel und hatten nur noch Hunger. Dreivier Straßen vom Hotel entfernt entdeckten wir dann San Marco. Das Restauran, kuschlig mit rotkarierten Tischdecken, das Carpaccio war genial und von der Pizza Biancha schwärmen wir heute noch als die Urmutter der Pizza. So stellt sich der Mitteleuropäer italienisches Essen vor! Der Nachbartisch wurde mit Nudeln beglückt, auch die sahen einfach wunderbar aus. Und die Überraschung kam zum Schluß — keine überzogenen Preise, nix, Qualität und der Preis stimmt absolut, wir waren total im Glück…
