I chose Pensione Barrett because I thought it was a great location for a good price, but our stay turned out to be perhaps the most phenomenal experience I’ve ever had at a place run by a kind, generous couple. I would definitely stay here again or and I highly recommend it to others. Michele and Cinzia Sacco are so warm and welcoming, and they did more for us than any hotel, motel, or hostel we’ve ever stayed in. I will miss this cute couple, and how every time we said, «Thank you» they would enthusiastically respond with«Thank you to YOU!» When you first arrive upstairs at Pensione Barrett, you will be overwhelmed by how much there is in the lobby — paintings, statues, furniture. This is a signature mark left by Michele and Cinzia that you’ll notice in the hotel rooms as well. We arrived a bit early, but Cinzia sent the maid to the room and told us it would be ready in about 30 minutes. During that time, Michele came out to the lobby and asked if we had made our plans yet for visiting Rome. With a warm and hearty smile, he said, «Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you!» He brought with him about 10 handouts that he made, as well as a map of Rome. He patiently explained to us that many people come to Rome and if they only see the touristy sites, they may miss some of the less-famous, but still incredibly profound and evocative places that he and his wife love. Around each and every historical area, e.g. the Coliseum, the Spanish Steps, St Peter’s Cathedral, he lists out about 4 – 5 additional places he would recommend that you and what you can expect to see. He also had a list of his favorite restaurants around each area — which was very helpful, as he has good taste! After Michele’s quick review of top things he would see in Rome(aside from the famous, touristy sites), we checked into our room. The room was decorated really beautifully, with columns, statues, and paintings. It took me several minutes to look around the room. Our room was completely packed — aside from a desk/chair, fridge, an espresso maker, a pants press, a water heater, it even had 2 foot massagers, a toaster oven, a bidet, a shower hydromassage and a hot dog toaster? The fridge was completely stocked with anything I would’ve ever wanted in a mini-fridge. Just like I mentioned with the lobby, it was so fully of stuff, I almost felt like it was too much. However, as we walked around Rome for 3 days, we came to love the foot massagers, and the hydro massage in the shower. I don’t think this hotel room could’ve been missing anything. On the other hand, it was a little hard to walk around sometimes because there was so much stuff. I don’t know if it was because we got along well with Michele, or if he does this for all guests, but he surprised us by bringing a bottle of wine for our first night. We went in September, and first night I didn’t order AC, but I did for the latter 2 nights. At night the street is a little noisy, and so I had to close the window to sleep. For our last night, I had asked Michele if he could prepare a nice bouquet of roses and a bottle of champagne in a bucket of ice as a surprise. He was very nice and willing to help me, and executed my plan perfectly. On our last morning, I should’ve checked out earlier, but I was too busy packing. However, Michele and Cinzia graciously woke up and helped us check out as quickly as they could so we could catch our morning train. However, before we left, Michele gave us another pleasant surprise — a departure gift! Michele gave us a DVD of the opera Tosca, based in Rome, and starring Placido Domingo, of the famous 3 tenors! I could’ve believe that he was giving us a gift, after all that they had done from beginning to end. With a warm smile, and humble bow, they said thank you for staying at our hotel, please remember you always have a home here in Rome. For our parting goodbye, we said, «Thank you so much!!» and in their kind, humble, and bubbly way, they said, «Thank you to YOU!» There are some people you will never forget, and some memories that last a lifetime. Thank you, Michele and Cinzia, for helping us creating a memory that will last a lifetime.
