It’s sometimes difficult to see beyond the Vatican(as far as religion goes), so it was a special treat to tour and learn about one of the largest synagogues in Europe and the role the Jewish people played in Europe, particularly Rome, both historically and today. A Roman landmark on the Tiber, the bronze roof was in and of itself, a beauty to feast ones eyes upon. The remains of the old temple nearby, and the quiet vibe of the Jewish Ghetto, made for a lovely afternoon. If interested, just make sure not to stop by on a Saturday during Shabbat. Nothing is open except for the restaurants.

Worth a visit as you will learn during the tour the history of the Jews in Rome. Entrance is 10 euros for adults. Students cost 4 euros and over 65 costs 7,50. Disabled and children under 10 get in free. The admission fee goes to up keep of the museum and synagogue. The museum is small… though it is interesting and during the tour you will go upstairs into the synagogue and learn about the construction of the temple.
