This is a gorgeous restaurant on the outskirts of Rome. I don’t know Rome quite well, but I know I had to ride a bus for half an hour to get to Aurelia Antica and it was definitely worth it. You don’t find La Nocetta in any of the tourist guide books and that’s a good thing, because this place is special, authentic and very Italian. I guess I was the only tourist among other guests the evening I went to La Nocetta. Oh wait, maybe not there were a couple of American priests. An Italian friend of mine suggested I should go to La Nocetta since it serves fabulous fresh food and is not as costy as those places in the heart of Rome, which probably do have nice authentic food, but are definitely nothing affordable for a young student like me. So I got a spaghetti frutti di mare with a glass of white wine + sparkling water. The pasta was mind-blowing, because if the menu includes sea food spaghetti, I do expect sea food and not just shrimps. So it did include shrimps, but also mussels, squid whatsoever. It looked like a poetry on a plate. I couldn’t finish even half of the portion, but what I ate was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Italy. This is how I imagine this country to be, this is how its cuisine basically is. I left La Nocetta with a smile on my face because now whenever I tell people about my Italian experience, I always include the part about the evening at La Nocetta. Just fab!
