We pre-booked this hotel on lastminuterooms, and I really wish we hadn’t. We arrived a day early and asked if we could get a room, they said Sure! and gave us one on the 7th floor, inexplicably right next to the kitchen. The bathroom adjoining absolutely reeked of sulphur, and there didn’t seem to be hot water on the tap, but we figured we’d make the best of it and opened the window to try to air it out. The next morning at 645 am the kitchen was filled with dish, espresso, cleaning, and banging noises, and it woke us up aggressively. We tried to shower but the water wouldn’t warm up above chilly and the bathroom still stank. We got dressed and went down to complain. The man at the desk said it was fine, we could have a discount, and we could trade rooms to a 3rd floor room now or wait and let the maids move our bags for us. Since we couldn’t shower, we opted to move ourselves. The new room reeked of smoke and looked a lot dingier, but what the hey, at least we could get a good night’s sleep right? Later, when we tried to settle the bill, the clerk(a different one) rang us up for the full amount quoted when we asked for the first room and would not listen to us when we said we had a terrible night and were promised a discount. He said it WAS a discount and usually that room went for E40 more than we got it for. I reiterated the number of problems and how dissatisfied we were, and told him we’d pay E30 for it. He laughed in my face and told me that I couldn’t go camping for that little. I told him it basically was camping(smelly, loud, no hot water) and he finally budged down E10. I wasn’t very happy but I decided I’d rather spend my vacation doing something else so I said ok and paid. Side notes: The cleaning and waitstaff was very nice. The breakfast was decent, and the wifi was free but weak and slow. It’s now Tuesday morning, our last night there was last Thursday(4 nights total) and I am covered in bed bug bite marks. I first noticed them yesterday, Monday. We flew home from Rome on Friday and did not stay anywhere else. While it’s possible we acquired them in one of the two airplanes we took, I highly doubt it. I went back and looked for other reviews talking about bed bugs and there were some. I am convinced I got these at hotel Torino, but I am hoping and praying that we didn’t actually bring any home with us and it’s just a delayed reaction. I will add that I noticed a telltale blood smear on the white sheet at the hotel near my shoulder, but at the time I didn’t know what it was. I just thought it was an odd stain. You’ve been warned.

Dirty and smelly rooms. Lousy breakfast. Lazy service. Definitely not a four star hotel, more like two stars. I wouldn’t want to stay here again.

We recently spent a weekend in this hotel with a tour we were with. Eh. Sure, it’s right by the train station. And, yes, going to be very much for tourists. But it’s claim of 4 stars? Kinda outdated. We were a party of three — me, my partner and our 4 yo daughter. Keep in mind that in Italy, you often pay per person in hotels, not per room. Our room? Stuffy, musty, with a cot crammed in so we could barely walk. Clean, but that carpet? I would have wanted to take a Dyson to it just to be safe. Whatever. It’s the city! It’s Rome. We don’t expect spacious. Roof top terrace for breakfast. Breakfast staff were friendly, and loaded us up with morning cappuccino. However! As soon as we opened the door to roll our suitcases on in… Drip. Drip. Drip. An air conditioner over the entrance way was dripping condensation right into our room… loud, moist… and has probably been going on for quite some time given the overwhelming musty smell. The hotel’s response? None. They weren’t mean about it, just kinda«government employee» attitude. Didn’t have a new room for us. Couldn’t fix it that day. And… wouldn’t even offer a price adjustment. They did end up fixing it for the second night of our stay… but that of course didn’t put a dent in musty odor. While I love Italy and love Rome… I really prefer American businesses commitment to the customer service. This hotel had us trapped and was had our tour group prepaying for suboptimal service. Hopefully our group is negotiating a discount, but for now… one of my only recourses: Unilocal review. Ok, and Trip Advisor, too. Come on, Hotel Torino. Get with the Customer Service program. You are in the hospitality industry. Be hospitable.
