Best complete meal in our entire 9 day trip through Italy(Venice/Florence/Rome). The owner was very nice, knowledgeable, and friendly. One star for service, which included free sparkling wine upon arrival to celebrate the new year and apertif to go with our dessert, one star for décor and ambiance, one star for the excellent food, one star for the reasonable pricing, and one star for the overall complete wonderful experience. We would definitely go back here when we return to Rome– and that is saying a lot. The next table to us overheard us and also agreed that they, too, enjoy this restaurant. This is all under the context that we just visited a Michelin restaurant(Stazione di posta) earlier in the day for lunch, so our standards are high.

Amazing restaurant! Possibly one of the best meals my husband and I have ever eaten. We were visiting Rome on our honeymoon, and we came to Danel Tavernae on our first night for dinner. It is the warmest, most welcoming place(thanks to the owner, Stefano and the great ambiance/décor), and the food is incredible. I had the gnoccho with amatriciano sauce, and my husband had a stuffed veal dish — both were perfect. Add a complimentary class of prosecco and a great(again inexpensive) bottle of wine and we pretty much never wanted to leave! Make sure you try this hidden gem in Rome!

This restaurant is a hidden gem! My friend and I backpacked Europe and ended our 3 week trip in Rome. Needless to say, we were pretty tired of eating at touristy places and really wanted to end our trip(last night) with an authentic and memorable dinner. We were recommended to go to this restaurant by two friends who stumbled upon it on their trip a few weeks earlier and raved about it. The restaurant had only three employees(chef, waitress, and waiter who I believe was also the owner) and they were all extremely friendly and treated us like family. We had the salmon tartare appetizer, scallop/shrimp ravioli, and the tomato pasta… all were amazing and by far our favorite food of the trip. The house red wine was also delicious. We received complimentary champagne and limoncello during the dinner as well! The restaurant only seats about 20 – 30 people and from the looks of it, they had one seating for the whole night without any table turnover. It was therefore very personalized and they encouraged you to stay and truly enjoy your meal for the evening. Make a reservation! They did turn away several walk-ins, or had them return 2 hours later! We called the day before and got a res no problem for 730pm, when they open for dinner. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant if you are looking for true Italian hospitality!

The food here was amazing, but it took so long to receive. We honestly thought they forgot about us. Also for my boyfriend it was almost unbearably hot inside. I didn’t feel to warm. Would have given five stars if it weren’t for the long wait, but to give them credit they were very busy. The service was great, besides the wait for the main course. The wine was wonderfully recommended by a man who I assumed was the owner. The portions are small, but so worth it. I’d absolutely go back.
